Design features

The BMW r1200rt motorcycle is equipped with a two-piece composite frame. The role of the load-bearing element of the structure is played by the engine. Thus, the weight of the Goose is distributed evenly, and good rigidity and strength characteristics are ensured.

The engine of the BMW k 1200 motorcycle has cylinder protection that can protect the engine from damage while traveling over rough terrain. The individual components of the BMW r1200rt in question have certain characteristics, for example:

  1. The suspension provides Goose with excellent stability. Due to the small diameter, the fork is not subject to compression during heavy braking.
  2. Discs made from light aluminum alloy. If you believe customer reviews, they are well suited for driving on the streets of big cities and are not at all suitable for off-road use.
  3. Tires designed for driving on smooth road surfaces. They provide stability during sharp turns and have low rolling resistance. Tires weigh little and have specialized pattern segments that make it possible to remove moisture when it comes to driving on wet road surfaces. The rear tires have a smaller diameter than the front tires. Thanks to this, the torque is used as efficiently as possible and good traction is ensured. Thus, the braking process becomes as effective as possible.
  4. The Goose braking system, namely the built-in ABS, models the pressure in such a way that loss of traction on the wheels is completely prevented. Its elements located at the front are brackets with radial fastening and two 305 mm discs. The rear components consist of a caliper and a single 276mm disc. The anti-lock braking system of the BMW r 1200 gs motorcycle is capable of operating in three modes, namely fully integral, partially integral and switchable.
  5. The engine is equipped with two cylinders and belongs to the four-stroke variety. The cooling system can be air or glycol-water. The engine has increased efficiency and efficiency due to the use of two camshafts. Moreover, the developers managed to significantly reduce vibration.
  6. The throttle valve is equipped with an electronic drive that controls engine operation with maximum precision. The fuel supply is regulated through an innovative system. There is a closed-loop catalyst that filters out harmful substances contained in the exhaust gases. The maximum torque of the BMW R 1200 gs motorcycle is 125 Nm. It occurs at 6500 rpm.
  7. Transmission, part of which is a 6-speed gearbox. It has helical gears. This design ensures smooth and uniform gear shifting while driving, virtually silent operation of the gearbox, and reduced dynamic load experienced by the entire system. At the same time, the described transmission element has increased resistance to incorrect downshifting.

The described design features make the BMW r1200gs unique.

Without Borders

In order to properly eat the Bavarian dish and subtly feel its taste, you need to understand the habitat intended by the designers of this, undoubtedly, one of the best large touring enduros today. Outside the city, the BMW R1200GS Adventure is a real guarantor of peace of mind, an unshakable Teutonic heavy truck that easily allows you to keep, for example, 150 km/h on a completely broken dirt road with half-meter holes, where, say, a Toyota Land Cruiser will fly off the road after 80 km/h or it will simply lose its suspension... And this is not a figurative comparison, but very specific observations from practice. The Adventure will not disappoint even on ideal asphalt - at least in the range of up to 180 km/h. It is unlikely that it would occur to anyone to complain about the insufficient efficiency of the braking mechanisms or poor performance of the suspension. Although, for my taste, the traction control, hidden under the ASC letter, is a bit rough. From the same practice, I can say that, if necessary, the engine can, without consequences, digest the AI-92, which is increasingly rare in Russian megacities and practically absent in Europe. With an “average weighted” passenger, the dynamic characteristics of the motorcycle also remain virtually unchanged.

A small sealed container on a gas tank can only hold an extremely small smartphone... or a couple of million bacteria.

Probably, in the case of the BMW R1200GS Adventure, one could try to draw analogies with some SUV from the BMW car line... but the Bavarians do not make serious SUVs - they have excellent crossovers in their arsenal. Actually, this year in the Bavarian manufacturer’s motorcycle line there is a certain analogue of the BMW X6 - the new XR1000R - the requirements of the modern market dictate the appearance of such models. And the BMW R1200GS Adventure is a real Aryan, monumental, not one bit tolerant, created for big guys and adventures. Yes, as it should be in the modern world, these big guys must be very wealthy in order to touch the German legend...

Victor Kryukov specialist of the AES-Moto technical center

The electronic engine control system of the BMW R1200 GS Adventure is slightly different from the classic one. A standard ECU has in its memory many tables of the form X = revolutions, Y = load, Z = resulting value, where the Z axis can contain injection duration values, ignition timing or other values. Since the BMW Adventure belongs to the class of touring motorcycles, Bavarian engineers, even at the development stage, included the ability to adapt the control unit to changing environmental conditions, and to ensure reliability, they duplicated some sensors. Piezomicrophones are installed on the engine cylinders, measuring the level of acoustic noise from the fuel combustion process. By decomposing the signal taken from the cylinder wall into a Fourier series (spectral analysis), based on the presence of certain characteristic combinations of frequencies, the “brain” is able to determine misfires (failure of high-voltage coils or spark plugs), detonation and much more. Thanks to continuous correction of ultrasound and fuel injection, the engine is insensitive to the octane number of gasoline. Moreover, the SOP of the cylinders may well turn out to be different, for example, with asymmetrical cooling. When calculating parameters, the BMW controller takes into account not only the tables included in it, but also the mathematical model of the corresponding engine - calculating the mass air flow, expected torque, the amount of fuel condensed on the walls of the intake manifold and many other parameters. This makes the control system flexible, capable of adapting to poor gasoline, changes in atmospheric pressure and temperature, but the presence of a mathematical model in the control algorithm creates significant difficulties when tuning such an engine during the tuning process.
