The Honda XL 400 V Transalp enduro touring motorcycle model was produced from 1987 to 1999. This motorcycle is a domestic Japanese model and was not officially supplied to other countries; the Honda XL600V Transalp model was exported. The 400 cc version of the Transalp differed from the 600 cc only in its reduced engine capacity; in all other respects it was the same motorcycle.
A special feature of the Honda XL400V Transalp motorcycle is a V-shaped 2-cylinder, 6-valve liquid-cooled engine producing 37 hp. and 34 Nm of torque. The engine is distinguished by a flat level of power and torque, without sharp pick-ups and dips - maximum engine power is available already at 8500 rpm, and all torque is achieved at 6500 rpm. This engine was also installed on the Honda Bros 400, Honda VRX 400, Honda Steed 400, Honda Shadow 400 models.
The features of the Honda Transalp 400 include a steel frame, simple suspension in the form of a conventional telescopic fork and monoshock absorber, a 5-speed gearbox, a chain drive, an 18-liter fuel tank and 183 kg of dry weight.
