Review of Ducati Hypermotard 1100 and 1100S

With the Hypermotard 1100, Ducati has set the bar high for Sumermoto motorcycles. Why is he so wonderful? Let's try to figure it out. While still a concept, the Ducati Hypermotard received the title of The Best of Show at the Milan Salon, not least for its excellent, truly Italian design. Although, of course, appearance is still not the main thing for a motard. And what? Of course, controllability. And the Hypermotard 1100 is doing just fine with it. Large and quite heavy (179kg) by conventional motard standards, the Ducati is incredibly responsive and stable on the move, even despite its high center of gravity. The excellent chassis, which is based on a rigid spatial tubular frame, is ideally combined with a powerful and torquey engine. The two-cylinder L-shaped unit with a volume of 1078 cm3 develops 90 hp. and produces a maximum torque of 102.9 Nm already at 4750 rpm. This traction reserve provides excellent throttle response and makes it possible to effectively accelerate out of corners. The transmission uses a dry multi-plate clutch, like on the Ducati 1098, and the huge torque is processed through a six-speed gearbox. As a result, the Ducati Hypermotard with such a power unit is capable of accelerating to an unusually high speed for motards - over 200 km/h.

The envy of everyone

Even another sportbike can envy such a chassis as that of the Hypermotard 1100: they did not skimp on components - in the front there is a 50 mm fully adjustable inverted Marzocchi fork; in the rear there is a swingarm with a cantilever wheel mount and a Sachs monoshock absorber, which has a progressive characteristic and a full range of adjustments. Openwork and very light Marchesini wheels are shod with Bridge stone sports tires. Braking is handled by Brembo mechanisms - front four-piston with 305 mm discs and rear with two pistons and a disc with a diameter of 245 mm.

Instead of the standard edition, you can install a tuned one from the list of options.

The ergonomics of the pilot's seating position on the Hypermotard 1100 have been carefully designed. As a result, the developers managed to achieve both convenience and reliable control over the motorcycle both in a sitting position and while standing on the pegs. At the same time, the bike with a wheelbase of 1455 mm precisely follows all the rider’s commands, although at first glance it seems rather high and unstable. However, this impression disappears as soon as you move away - already at low speed the Hypermotard acquires excellent stability.

The devices are made in the MotoGP style and are capable of not only displaying, but also accumulating information about technical parameters and lap times for subsequent analysis. Folding mirrors are an extension of the protection of the steering wheel grips.

Among the interesting features of the Ducati Hypermotard, folding mirrors should be noted, which serve as a continuation of the protection covering the handlebars. In addition, the motard is equipped with racing-style instruments and it is possible to download data on the course of a racing session into a computer for subsequent analysis and comparison, including recording of many parameters - from the time of rotation to the gear engaged at each moment and engine speed. However, for this you need to purchase special software and a USB card to transfer data to your computer. This kit is included in the list of options, which also contains many tuning components, such as a sports exhaust system and an air filter.

Factory tuning

In general, turning the Nuper-motard 1100 from a road bike into a sports bike is not difficult. In addition, in addition to the regular version, there is also a Ducati Hypermotard 1100 S - “tuned” already on the assembly line. The main differences of the “esque”: low-friction coating of the front fork, Ohlins backpack-type rear shock absorber (with a remote reservoir), Brembo Monobloc front brakes with radial mount, forged wheels and Pirelli Diablo Corsa III tires. It turns out that Ducati has practically made a racing bike that is ready to ride on public roads. And it is not just adapted for this, but really convenient for everyday use.

TEST DRIVE: Ducati Hypermotard 1100 – HYPERcool!

Ever since Ducati showed the hypermotard concept at the Milan Motor Show in 2005, I've been wanting to ride one. At the beginning of May, in Sardinia, I finally got the opportunity to fully evaluate the funniest bike on the motorcycle market: hyper modes on the track and road - the perfect motorcycle?

MOTOGONKI.RU, July 30, 2009 - The trend that was picked up by the Ducati factory actually began with the 950 cc series of motards from KTM. A simple recipe, but very effective: take a 1000 cc V-twin, a powerful chassis and build a Supermoto-style motorcycle out of it. That's what this trend is - a big engine and maneuverability in one body. Like Buell (SuperTT) and BMW (HP2 Megamoto), Ducati chose to remain air-cooled. But daddy KTM 950 SM was on the water!

The KTM 950 SM and BMW HP2 SM were not motards by nature. Initially, these were large enduros that simply had SM kits installed on them! But having retrained, they became true motards: huge suspension travel; narrow, sporty seats; footpegs designed for riding in hard motocross boots. Ducati moved away from this principle, creating a 1100% street bike - the Hypermotard 1100. "Street" in Ducati terms means "sporty", but the Hyper is more than a roadbike, and more than a motard: it is a powerful naked bike that lacked an all-round suspension ! This is actually a cool idea.

Many parts of the engine and chassis were inherited from the Multistrada 1100. But if another factory had undertaken a simple redesign, Ducati drew the project from scratch. Everything is authentic - from the ingenious headlight and front fender to the double muffler under the saddle. The genius of Pierre Terblanche, a designer who received the Milan Motor Show Grand Prix for his work, can be seen throughout. Conceptually, motards are distinguished from “Strada” by brakes, turn signals built into hand protection on the steering wheel, and a host of other parts.

On the beautiful Sardinian highways, I managed to ride a lot in both styles - road and sports. The supermoto style is different from all others: the leg is extended forward to further load the front wheel when turning and achieve a minimum lean angle. In the “road version” both feet remain on the footrests. I immediately attribute the wide handlebars and saddle to the category of the best of all that I have seen and felt: they allow you to ride in supermoto style as fast as you want.

You experience special pleasure when you enter slow hairpin turns. The Hypermotard doesn't care at what speed you go into a corner. In a split second, you can absorb all the excess with double radial Brembos, and if it’s not scary, you can continue the journey at the same pace. Of course, there are limits to perfection - for the pilot, because the Hypermotard has turns for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The steering is EXTREMELY ACCURATE and forgives many mistakes. The front of the bike is really heavy. There are massive Brembo monoblock calipers and steel discs, a 50 mm Marzocchi inverted fork – everything is monumental and very durable.

In the city, driving a hyper will require a lot of effort. Much more than when riding any single-cylinder motorcycle. Although the declared weight is only 179 kilos (which is very little for a “liter”), several factors reduce the survivability of the motorcycle in heavy traffic. Oddly enough, this is just a wide steering wheel, turn signals built into the mirrors on its sides... Yes, they are folding! But without them, even in a traffic jam it’s somehow uneasy. At speed, everything changes, and those same mirrors become an unnecessary accessory - such vibration that you can’t even see yourself in them.

The suspension is the Hypermotard's strong suit and is fully adjustable. The main difference between Ducati and other hypertrophied motards is not cross-country or endura, but natural road shock absorbers with short strokes. The Ducati is no longer suitable for riding on stairs; on speed bumps it behaves the same as most road bikes. But once you hit the highway, the Marzocchi/Sachs combination kicks in and you enjoy speeds previously only achievable on a sportbike. The Hypermotard is much more stable at speed than any 690cc single-cylinder supermoto. The massive front end, the impenetrable 50mm “shifter” and the brakes play a role.

As usual, the Italians approached the choice of tires with great enthusiasm and found an excellent combination of Bridgestone BT014 for the front 120/70-ZR17 and rear 180/55-ZR17. This series is sufficient for any liter superbike, so in the case of the 90 hp Hypermotard, I believe they will last much longer than expected.

Overall
My impressions: I'm over the moon about Hypermotard. This bike is more to my heart than all the other variations on the theme. And since the Ducati came next after the KTM 950 SM, it surpassed it in every way. Yes, a hypermoto in a sluggish city crowd does not stand out as nimble. But for the chassis, brakes and engine I forgive this sin! And you don’t need to sneak around between cars on it. For this, you need to take Monster. But in terms of the totality of its advantages, Hypermotard has surpassed it too!

Pros:

+ Simpler is better + Handling, chassis and brakes (especially the one with S) + Prierre strikes back!

Minuses:

— Very heavy throttle grip - your hand gets tired — Mirrors are unusable at speed

Motorcycle Ducati Hypermotard 1100 2007 review

The description of the Ducati Hypermotard 1100 2007 motorcycle is in the queue for publication of the article. Announcement: Today, for almost every new motorcycle that comes into being, marketers strive to carve out their own niche. This one is a road sport, this one is a recreational enduro. But what class should we include a motorcycle that has a little bit of everything? A good bike should have a reliable engine, comfortable ergonomics and simple controls...

The Ducati Hypermotard 1100 is a very rare motorcycle in Russia equipped with a fairly powerful 90hp engine. Despite the fact that good models of motorcycles have a very respectable price, and the season for their use is relatively short, the motorcycle market is developing rapidly. And if you believe the words of dealers, then some models of recently released motorcycles are selling like hot cakes at the beginning of the season, and the models brought to Russia are clearly not enough to fully satisfy consumer demand.

A motorcycle has long ceased to be an alternative to a car, and the times when this equipment was bought only because there was not enough money for a full-fledged car are forgotten. Nowadays, two-wheelers can be called technological marvels in many cases, and their cost can be compared with that of prestigious cars.

Many people have started buying motorcycles for hobby purposes as riding or even collecting them has become a good pastime for many people. Many motorcycles, for example the Ducati Hypermotard 1100, whose technical characteristics make it possible to call the model a prestigious brand, are in demand among both beginners and experienced motorcyclists.

Motorcycles with an engine capacity of 1078 cc. see, appeared as a result of long work of inventors who sought to create a model that was not inferior in characteristics to other versions of the motorcycle. In some cases, these models are not only not inferior, but also ahead of other motorcycles, as they have minimal fuel consumption and other excellent parameters.

Motorcycles with an engine capacity of more than 400 kb. cm, which includes the Ducati Hypermotard 1100 - this category of motorcycles simply cannot claim the title of “motorcycle for a beginner.” On the contrary, this is already a serious technique that requires certain control of motorcycle equipment with a smaller engine capacity. Yes, she attracts more attention, she is the most beautiful, fast, interesting and there is a huge selection of models. But as power increases, the weight of the motorcycle inevitably increases. In this class you are unlikely to find motorcycles lighter than 180 kg, unless they are the latest motorcycle models.
