The debut of the Lada Grant took place back in 2011 at one of the automobile exhibitions of the Volzhsky Automobile Plant products. The range of models is typical: sedan, hatchback, sport.

The price for the basic configuration started from 400,000 thousand rubles per copy. Despite the budget price, not everyone could afford to buy a new car. An alternative option is a used car.

Equipment and equipment - what can you buy in the showroom?

The sedan remains the cheapest representative; other solutions will cost a little more. In its base, the machine costs 435,000 rubles, but taking into account various programs and promotions from both the state and the manufacturer, you can save up to 70,000 rubles. This is a good opportunity to get a car very inexpensively. Everything about the technical specifications is quite complicated, as always with Lada. However, the machine was qualitatively modified to create a new model.

It is worth noting the following characteristics:

  • all engines are naturally aspirated, have a volume of 1.6 liters, there are options for 87 hp. for the basic version, 98 horsepower for the automatic and 106 horsepower for the top versions and for those who love drive;
  • a 5-speed manual is installed as the base box, the best solution would be a 4-band classic automatic, and there is also a proprietary AMT robot for the powerful engine;
  • There are many configurations, you can choose the optimal set of equipment for yourself and buy something separately, the list of configurations contains everything you need for your comfort in the car;
  • the company presented the car in 8 colors, of which only 4 really look good, the rest are quite strange, but they are also ordered, as was the case with the previous model;
  • the most expensive version with a 98-horsepower engine, automatic and in the Luxe configuration will cost the buyer 624,800 rubles, and this is a very reasonable price if you look at the competitors.

The expensive version comes with a good set of airbags, an alarm system, DRLs, PTF, ABS and even BAS (braking assist). An on-board computer is installed, and there is a 12V socket in the cabin for phones and other devices. The steering wheel is power-assisted, there is climate control, a beautiful folding key, adjustments for everything that can be adjusted, heated front seats, cruise control with a speed limiter and other interesting things. There are even 15-inch alloy wheels with a pretty good design.

What to look for when choosing a used model

Before purchasing a technical device, especially a used one, it is recommended to hire a service center specialist for help. This will help to carry out high-quality comprehensive diagnostics, visually assess the general technical condition of the car, and identify most of the breakdowns and defects.

If you have your own experience, it is not at all necessary to use the services of specialists, but it is advisable. Typical vulnerabilities of Grant Sport used:

  1. wheel arches: places where corrosion and deposits form;
  2. joints of body parts, seams, openings;
  3. rubber seals for windshield, rear and side windows;
  4. leakage of the front drive seal on the left/right side;
  5. degree of wear of the drive belt;
  6. corrosion of the “cups” of the rear shock absorbers.

What are the results of the Lada Granta reliability test?

“And yet she goes...” This was the title of our final report on accelerated life tests of the Lada Priora. Priora, let us remind you, even if she did not captivate us with her refined manners, maintaining her turned out to be by no means a ruinous task. And here’s deja vu: we have completed the reliability test of the Priora’s young relative, the Lada Granta.


Like the Priora, the rook on the radiator grille is unstoppable...

When, after the end of the resource run, we drove our Grant into one of the Moscow auto repair shops, a middle-aged mechanic, looking at the car, was dumbfounded with the question: “Is it Chinese, or what?” We made it – people in Russia won’t recognize the Lada! Maybe this is because VAZ has adopted the fashion of attaching emblems to the cladding only with double-sided tape - so the branded boat gave up its mooring lines and set off on a free voyage? By the way, the Priorovskaya boat also “sailed away” at one time.

However, it’s easy for us to identify the Lada even without any identification marks. “This is an excellent self-propelled tool for learning the components and assemblies of a car, and all processes are complemented by an amazing variety of sounds and sensations! A textbook poster “Operation of an internal combustion engine (in cross-section)” appears before my eyes, I remember the spinning gears of the gearbox, the moving joints of the steering and suspension...” This is how we wrote about Priora three years ago. And we are ready to repeat everything word for word now in relation to Granta with its varied noises, creaks and vibrations. All the way Granta was in absentia, but loudly argued with Priora about who was more talkative. By the end of the run, literally everything in the cabin was rattling. And not only did it rattle: the lid of the glove box with the lock falling off would fall down, or the lampshade would jump out of its socket... How can one not believe that genetics is stronger than upbringing?


The total mileage was 32,000 kilometers. It was divided into ten stages, five of which the cars run light, and five with almost full or full load.

But, of course, there were differences, and not always for the better. Already after 1,500 km, the Granta stunned us with knocks in the front suspension, and our surprise is easy to understand: Priora, I remember, galloped along the entire distance of 32,000 “resource” kilometers without a single suspension breakdown, gaining a reputation as the most “strong on its feet” test participant! And Granta’s left front brace fastening bracket fell apart: it turned out that during assembly, one of the bolts securing it was driven into the body nut so hard that the thread in this nut was torn off. The bolt only held itself, which the flimsy spot welding on the bracket did not.

Uncle Vanya conscientiously welded the bracket, cut a new thread - and the suspension fell silent. And only at the very end of the tests did the rear left shock absorber leak. So, without an assembly defect, the Granta’s suspension should be considered reliable.

But the chassis is also the wheels. Granta has nothing to praise them for! The stamped 14-inch wheels are so pliable that they wrinkle in completely harmless situations. I can’t count how many times Ivan Ivanovich adjusted the rims, and even during tests on the cobblestone road - almost every day.

Advantages of buying a used Lada Granta

  • efficiency in fuel consumption;
  • maintenance costs, technical inspections at an average level;
  • good price-quality ratio;
  • possibility of choosing a complete set;
  • numerous service centers;
  • availability, promptness of ordering with subsequent delivery of spare parts and components; relative simplicity of the design of the mechanisms. If you have minimal experience in maintenance, most of the work can be carried out independently, without the help of service station specialists. Which significantly reduces the cost of maintenance.

Along with multiple positive factors, take into account the following negative ones:

  1. a used car can become a frequent “guest” of your garage, inspection pit, or service station. It is almost impossible to predict when a particular part will break;
  2. If you do not have skills in servicing equipment, carry out all work in a workshop. This is not always justified by the allocated budget;
  3. The time has come for a major overhaul of the power unit, chassis, front/rear suspension. And also, cosmetic repairs of body elements and paintwork.

Changes made to liftback

When releasing the Lada in the liftback body, AvtoVAZ for the first time used the experience of foreign automakers, who create variants with different bodies within the same model. But is it only the body that has changed, or is this version different in design, interior design, and driving performance?

Improved design and additional options

The new contours added beauty and elegance to the liftback; in comparison, the sedan is completely unpretentious; next to the liftback it looks rather dull and boring.

  • Unlike the sedan version, the bumpers are painted in body color.
  • The shape of the recesses at the front bumper has been changed, which makes the exterior design more modern. The rest of the front is almost the same as in the sedan model, but even the modified shape of the bumper with built-in niches made the car’s appearance more harmonious and light.
  • Exterior mirrors have become stylish, original, and help improve aerodynamics. They have a built-in turn signal repeater.
  • The license plate is attached to the back of the door; Thanks to the freed up space, fog lights were installed on the bumper.
  • Aerodynamics have become better due to the selection of the rear window angle.
  • Thanks to the slope, the glass is cleaned by air currents in the rain, so there is no need for a rear windshield wiper. This principle was first used in the development of AZLK.
  • The taillights follow the shape of the sedan, but are narrower.
  • Limiters are designed on the front doors; when closing, a closer effect is achieved; a new seal has been added. This eliminated the creaking when opening the door and the rattling of the windows, as was the case in the sedan.

In general, the five-door Granta liftback with a smooth transition to the rear from the top, with a sloping roof, original rear doors, and a self-cleaning rear window looks much more stylish and better than the sedan version.

Restyling in the cabin

The change in bodywork did not affect the capacity of the car. On the contrary, the new version of the liftback car is much more comfortable than the previous ones. The finishing is also made of inexpensive, but practical materials. Passengers are as comfortable as in the sedan model. But the sound insulation is significantly better, which already increases the level of comfort.

Changes to the chassis and body

Automakers have corrected as much as possible the flaws noticed in the sedan modification.

  • The “Standard” and “Norma” versions were equipped with a newly tuned and improved suspension with liquid shock absorbers. The springs are taken from a sedan. The suspension is now not so precise when controlling, but it works better off-road, and passengers shake significantly less on bumps and holes. The luxury version has the latest suspension, with powerful stabilizers and stiff springs. Intentionally rigid, this suspension increases the stability of the car on sharp turns, reduces the amplitude of sway and roll.
  • The luxury version has been added, which was not previously available in production LADA cars, with the exception of sports modifications.
  • A much more advanced brake booster is installed - vacuum, thanks to which the brake pedal has become responsive, precise, and braking is less harsh.
  • The ground clearance has become higher by 15 mm, which is beneficial for increasing cross-country ability.

Classic hatchbacks are produced without a reinforcing bulkhead at the rear; increased rigidity was achieved by strengthening the floor, roof, and changes in the structure of the middle spar.

Changes in configuration

The liftback's equipment has become more diverse - various options are included:

  • immobilizer;
  • seat belt indicator;
  • hydraulic headlight range control;
  • An audible signal sounds when the key is left in the ignition switch.

The fastening screws, which in the sedan were easily exposed to moisture, rusted and were destroyed, were replaced with improved ones with enhanced anti-corrosion properties.

Why are there so many broken Lada Grantas on the secondary market?


As specialists from a number of service centers and service stations that are directly involved in restoring equipment after an accident assure, the percentage of broken ones is in the average range. The opinion is wrong and the numbers are exaggerated.

If we look objectively at each of the brands/models, then the number of broken ones will be at the same level. The problem is typical for any technical means. The reason lies in driving skills, car control, style and manner of driving.

The vast majority of accidents occur due to exceeding the speed limit or violation of established rules. Unfortunately, drivers love to drive around, which ends in an emergency.

To summarize and answer the question: is it possible to buy a used Granta - it is definitely possible and necessary. If you have enough budget to purchase a more expensive brand, choose the latter.

Competitors - is there anyone better than Granta?

It will be very difficult to find competitors for that kind of money, so we will slightly expand the search range to the cost of the most expensive configuration. Within the range of 600,000 rubles, Granta really competes with many representatives of the car market and can move them with its sense of novelty. Of course, buying a Granta will not always be the best decision, and this becomes clear after a specific comparison with competitors. It should be noted that there are a lot of budget sedans on the market.

Grant's main rivals are as follows:

  1. Ravon R4. The car sells from 489,000 rubles in a good configuration, and for 600,000 you can buy an excellent automatic version with a very decent engine, a good gearbox, and in general in the best configuration. The comfort of the trip cannot be compared.
  2. Renault Logan The car starts from 564,000 rubles, but already in the database it offers more features than the Granta in average trim levels. The car has been tested on our roads, it is quite durable and of high quality, it can easily compete with the Grant.
  3. Datsun on-DO. Many people prefer to buy Datsuns because they are Japanese, but by and large this is the same Granta. The car has only a slightly different design and a slightly modified interior. Overall, the car is of high quality and durable, but it’s hardly any better than the new Granta.
  4. FAW V5. If you are not ashamed of the Chinese, there is also a brainchild from FAW. The car is good in terms of equipment and price, there are no problems with the equipment. The assembly is of quite high quality, so you can safely compare this car with Granta and consider it as an alternative.
  5. Lifan Solano. Another Chinese with good sales in Russia, but with a price tag of 679,000 rubles. Of course, it competes with the Granta conditionally, since it costs more than even the most complete version of the Russian sedan. However, you can also consider it.

As you can see, there are quite a lot of competitors, and there are also quite worthy options for consideration. It all depends on the purpose for which you are buying a car, as well as how much you can stretch your budget. Sometimes, just by adding a few tens of thousands of rubles, you already get completely different options for using your car. But in general, Granta’s competition will come not from new, but from used cars with approximately the same price tags as in the showroom for a Lada Granta.

Impression

In general, I got in, drove out of the car dealership, drove about 10 kilometers and became depressed. I don’t even want to describe my feelings. I immediately took it to armor the front part with anti-chip film. I had to part with the car for another day; I didn’t even drive an hour. The next day I took it, somehow my soul felt happier, I don’t know why.

I forgot to write, the car itself is 502,500 rubles. + 10,000 anticorrosive with fender liners. The dealer installed everything himself before the sale. Therefore, when I arrived, they had already announced a price of 512,500 rubles with these extras. And I didn’t resist. Anticorrosive throughout the bottom and arches is good.

Well, now about the car: the car itself looks okay, but it seems to me that it could be a little wider and a little lower, otherwise it looks somehow awkward from the back. The engine is still being run-in, there’s not much to say yet; in the city it’s quite enough, but on the highway uphill it’s hard for it. Even trucks overtook me up the hill.

Well, I think after the break-in everything will be fixed. I try not to give it more than 3,000 rpm, and on the highway it’s 110 and no more. The gearbox on the new Grant howls—it howls in all gears. The gears are still a little hard to engage, well, everything will probably get used to it.

The noise is average - nothing new here. Somewhere in the front side windows the wind is blowing at speed, you can hear it quite well. The smell in the cabin is, of course, terrible. Everything rattles little by little, something in the panel, in the doors, the rear windows, when closed, also rattle, the front windows, if opened 2-4 cm, also rattle.

The fit is a little high for my height of 192 cm. I would like it lower, but there are no options. Luxury ones have seats with seat height adjustment. I didn't like the instrument panel. The orange scale is not for everyone, and you can’t change the backlight.

There is a lot of space on the dashboard, but it is not used as it should. For example, temp. engine, air temperature, mileage before refueling, gasoline consumption, on-board network voltage, everything could be displayed in a column, but no, you can only set one parameter on the display.

And if you need to look at another one, you have to switch the wiper lever on the joystick. It's annoying, to be honest. Also in the tidy, the edging of the rings is glossy black; something often shines on it. I often get distracted by this, thinking that something is on the display.

The suspension on the new Lada Granta liftback 2021 is quite decent. Maybe it's just new. Pits, bumps - everything works out. The only thing, I already said, is that it’s a little lower, but so far there are no complaints about the suspension.

Lada Granta liftback 2019-2020 owner reviews

So, I’ll walk through the car, at the same time comparing Grant with Kalina.

Engine. The 16-valve engine installed here is noticeably quieter than the old eight-valve engine that was on my Kalina. It doesn't rattle like a tractor, it runs smoothly. Because of the run-in, I don’t press on the gas, I accelerate smoothly, but the potential is felt. If you have the money, I think you should buy a car with just such an engine. I didn’t regret it, although I initially wanted an eight-valve one.

Fuel consumption was scary at the beginning; the car consumed 12-14 liters in mixed mode. After about 500 kilometers, consumption dropped, and now it is 7.5 liters per hundred in the combined cycle, outside the city 5-5.5 liters. All this takes into account the fact that I don’t put pressure on the gas, I calmly accelerate and brake. My consumption on Kalina was higher - 9-9.5 liters per hundred in mixed mode.

Transmission. Gears shift easier and more clearly than on Kalina. On Kalina it was impossible to stick the first one at low speed, on Grant it was easy. The box howls, but it was the same on Kalina.

Suspension. Honestly, I thought it would be softer. As I understand it, this is exactly the case on sedans, but on liftbacks, in my opinion, the suspension handles bumps more harshly. But still better than on my old Kalina. Significantly better.

Interior and quality of materials. Just as spacious as in Kalina, but due to the change in the front panel and the shape of the glove compartment there is less legroom for the front passenger. The plastic and its scratch resistance will be slightly worse than that of the first generation Kalin plastic. The hardness of the plastic in both cars is approximately the same.

The seats are firmer than on Kalina and hold their shape better. The material of the seat upholstery and floor did not cause any complaints, but because of the black color, every speck is visible.

Body iron. One hundred percent thinner than the first generation Kalinas. You can often read or hear that the metal is the same. Now, that's not true. Just for fun, click in different places. The bumpers are made of very thin plastic; on Kalina everything was much more solid.

Trunk. More than the Kalina station wagon, and the fifth liftback door and the ability to fold the seats make the car as convenient as a station wagon when transporting any cargo.

Air conditioner. Works fine and cools the interior perfectly. Does not affect engine power. If I'm not mistaken, the air conditioner turns off automatically when the speed increases.
