Initially, the model was created in a single version; later, the design bureau developed a side trailer, which became an addition to the motorcycle. Disadvantages of the IZH-P5 engine

This modification will prevent oil from getting onto the back, and the exhaust will be directed downward.
Long acceleration. Planet 5 with a sidecar takes longer to accelerate. The increased duration during acceleration is especially noticeable on a motorcycle with a sidecar.

The IZH Planeta-5 motorcycle differs from other models in its class in that its engine has powerful traction at low speeds. - Vadim, Yaroslavl. I bought this motorcycle in 1992. It cost me 12 thousand rubles. Completely original, without all Chinese spare parts. I traveled a lot on this two-wheeler - to Krasnoyarsk, Tulan, Achinsk, Abakan, and even visited the area of the notorious Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station. I often drove 500 kilometers at a time, and this was in 1994 - then, by the way, the roads were of worse quality. On some road sections, 150 kilometers long, there was not a single soul on the roads. And somewhere we had to climb through full-fledged off-road terrain, which is intended for SUVs with all-wheel drive. But my little bike withstood all these tests, since it is light and difficult to bury in the mud. But on the other hand, it was somehow scary, because in such a wilderness I have no one to rely on in the event of a major breakdown. Fortunately, Izh-Planet-5 never failed. Now its mileage is 47 thousand km. I connected the sidecar trailer to it. I quickly got used to the wheel - the controls are located within easy reach. Over time, I installed an imported steering rack and chain disc brake. The fork is stiffer than its predecessor, with an increased angle of inclination. This feature increases convenience, comfort and safety during the trip. In addition, the motorcycle began to look more solid. There is a function for pumping air into the fork stays, thanks to which the fork stiffness can be adjusted based on your needs. The seating position is also comfortable, the seat is covered with very durable leatherette, which is still intact - there is not a single hole on it. The driver and passenger fit on the motorcycle without any problems. The steering wheel is strong, I will also note its developed torsional rigidity, and the height of the steering wheel is adjusted to my height. In addition, the electrical equipment in the motorcycle operates reliably, without unexpected failures. Electrics are not afraid of moisture, which is a sign that Izh Planet 5 is adapted to domestic road and climatic conditions. At night, the headlight shines quite dimly, the road is difficult to see. There is nothing complicated in maintenance, but you need to get used to the contact ignition system - it has to be reconfigured and adjusted. The carburetor fuel system is completely insensitive to blockages. The air filtration system effectively cleans the air. The engine dynamics are excellent, you can drive up to 100 km/h. Gasoline consumption is around 4-5 liters per 100 km. Unfortunately, it was never possible to accelerate to 120 km/h. The motorcycle digests both 80 and 92 gasoline perfectly. The engine is quite noisy, and vibrations from it are transferred to the steering column and frame structure. It is necessary to mix oil with gasoline, because of this, by the way, the exhaust turns blue. Unfortunately, because of this, the engine is not able to meet even Euro-3 standards. On long trips you quickly feel tired due to all these vibrations. After a long ride, my whole body aches, especially my lower back. But the bike is worth the money spent.
- Ruslan, Ryazan. I am the owner of a motorcycle IZH Planet 5 1992 model year. Nowadays, this miracle of technology is in demand only among village boys and men. IL Planet-5 is significantly different from a similar model - Jupiter. First of all, the main difference is in the dynamics - the Planet tears and rushes at high speeds, while Jupiter does not like high speeds. Moreover, the Planet has lower gas mileage, better off-road performance, and is lighter in weight, resulting in better handling. Accordingly, the motorcycle does not break down so often. As for the detailed parameters, they can be found on the Internet, so I’ll only tell you about fuel consumption - in the urban cycle the Planet consumes a maximum of 5 liters, in the suburban cycle it turns out to be 3-4 liters, on light off-road conditions a two-wheeler fits into 6 liters. In general, perhaps that's all. I don’t advise novice motorcyclists to get on foreign cars, but it’s better to start by riding this Soviet motorcycle. After this it will be much easier to master a foreign car.
- Igor, Moscow region. I decided to write a review about the IZH Planet-5 motorcycle in honor of its 30 years of operation. This Soviet vehicle is still running, it is now stored in the garage, I am blowing dust off it. I’ll start right away with the disadvantages, the most important of which I think is mediocre lighting. The headlight is normal, but all because of the weak power of the generator (it has only 65 watts). The marker lights and the brake light also consume additional energy. All this lighting crap is installed not only on the motorcycle, but also on the trailer. That's why it takes so much energy. Halogen headlights are quite power hungry, so I decided to replace them with energy-efficient LED elements. As a result, energy consumption has decreased tenfold! Thanks to this, the generator had a reserve of energy, which was already enough for the main headlight - it lit up brightly (I left the main headlight with my original one and only replaced the dimensions). I set the DC voltage to 12 volts; for this I had to rectify the alternating current with one diode from the generator. In addition, it was still necessary to smooth out the ripples; for this, an electrolytic capacitor of 500 uF was needed. The result was a direct current, which I passed through the stabilizer on the KREN-8B. This is how the voltage turns out to be 12V, which does not change, regardless of low, medium or high engine speeds. I draw your attention to the fact that it is better to power only diode dimensions with this stabilizer, because its power is not enough for ordinary (original) light bulbs. I measured the voltage at the main headlight - it is no more than 15 volts. I bought LED lamps at an auto parts store, they cost me little. And the halogen light used to burn out often. Perhaps this was the main problem of the motorcycle, but otherwise it is excellent - it accelerates quickly and supports cheap 80 gasoline, but I fill it with 92 gasoline. Fuel consumption is 5 liters per 100 km.
- Valery, Tambov. I bought the Izh Planeta-5 motorcycle in 2012 from the first owner (though I don’t know how much he was the first, whether this is true). The main thing is that I liked the condition. At least I didn’t have to change or install anything major. Everything works perfectly, the motorcycle is durable and unpretentious in long-term use, it is perfectly adapted to Russian road and natural conditions. This model helps out in household matters, and at the same time it is very economical - maximum gasoline consumption does not exceed 2 liters per 100 km. Among the significant disadvantages, I note the weak battery power. The battery often ran out. To eliminate this shortcoming, I installed the ignition from the Voskhod motorcycle. In addition, I had to go through the entire wiring assembly in order to change the nominal voltage of 6 W and increase it to at least 10. As a result of all these “machinations”, I was satisfied with the motorcycle - now it starts with half a turn, from now on there are no complaints about the battery. I recently bought mounts for an electronic ignition coil. The motorcycle was produced in 1992 and cost me 10 thousand rubles.
- Oksana, Lipetsk region. This summer, my husband found an Izh Planet-5 motorcycle in decent condition on a second-hand market, and this rarely happens. Model produced in 1994, bought for 13 thousand rubles. In general, it must be said that this is an economical and unpretentious transport that requires minimal investment. The reason for buying such a vehicle is that every week we go to the village to visit our parents. It is more convenient to ride a motorcycle, especially in the hot season. It is more economical and maneuverable, and is suitable for off-road use. By the way, in rural areas you can achieve six liters per hundred. You can ride on the worst roads, the motorcycle suspension will withstand even less troubles. My husband is also happy. In addition, now he has something to do in the garage, he is even interested in tinkering with the motorcycle. He says that there are no difficulties in repairs, the main problem is where to get spare parts. Fortunately, parents have friends who work with similar equipment.
- Boris, Kaliningrad. IZH Planeta-5 is a motorcycle for all occasions, comfortable and passable, it takes turns quickly. The dynamics are not very good - the two-stroke design of the engine is to blame. In addition, because of this, you have to mix oil with gasoline, which significantly increases the toxicity of exhaust gases - based on this, there can be no talk of any “Euro 2, 3 or 4”. Such smoke rolls out of the exhaust pipe (especially if you press on the gas at the start) that you can play hide and seek in this smoke. But seriously, other shortcomings can be noted - for example, excessive gasoline consumption in the region of 7 liters. The motorcycle is from 1991, I bought it in 2009. The current mileage is 12 thousand kilometers (when I bought it, it was 7 thousand). I drove mainly on dirt roads, the engine has excellent “pickup” at low speeds. On the Planet you can drive fast along a rural path, or along a highway. By the way, for the latter case (on the highway), it is better to change the wheels - install lower-profile tires. This will improve handling and stability, and the motorcycle will stop skidding. For priming, it is better to leave the original rubber. Overall, the Planet is a decent motorcycle. It is able to compete with modern Chinese budget models. It has high maintainability and cheap spare parts. However, gasoline consumption is gigantic by modern standards; even the Chinese perform better here. There is a way to eliminate the disadvantage associated with gluttony - as an option, you can buy a Japanese carburetor for 350 cc. cm and two strokes, or you can choose a Chinese-made carburetor. Replacing the carburetor with another original type K36 or K68 will not help - they have always been gluttonous. Of course, replacing a carburetor with a Japanese one requires a lot of money; this is almost half the cost of a motorcycle, to put it mildly. As for the ignition, fortunately, during the entire ride the ignition never failed, and there was no need to adjust it again. Therefore, I see no point in replacing the original ignition with an electronic one. The original ignition must be set correctly, and then there will be no problems - to do this, you need to unscrew the spark plug, insert a screwdriver (it is advisable to make notches with a marker), instead of a screwdriver you can use a special probe, then turn the crankshaft using the 11th key (the main thing here is not reach TDC 3.3.5 mm), then set a gap of 0.3 mm on the breaker. Simply put, you can simply rotate the crankshaft so that a gap with a diameter of 0.6 mm appears at the breaker. The easiest way to do the gap is with a car feeler gauge; this can be done at a service center for an inexpensive price. The motorcycle accelerates to the first hundred in 12 seconds, with a 20-teeth sprocket. The maximum speed is 120 km/h. The motor produces strong vibrations. I also didn’t like the tight clutch - it’s so tight that after a few thousand km the cable could break. Unlike the Jupiter (it has a semi-automatic), the Planet is equipped with a manual 4-speed gearbox. In the near future, I plan to install a K62I carburetor - this is the Chinese version, it is more economical and environmentally friendly. I always fill the gearbox with gear oil.
- Daniil, Saratov. This is not a motorcycle, but like a small tractor. It is quite powerful and durable, and rarely breaks down with regular maintenance (this is obvious for such equipment). This device has been with me my entire adult life, I’ve been riding it since I was 5 years old. True, then I rode with my father, he taught me everything, including repairs. Over the years, I have become so accustomed to the Planet that I seem to be reunited with it when I sit behind the wheel. It is dynamic and can maneuver quickly in tight turns. It has a very long resource, because the engine does not have any turbocharging or other bells and whistles. It’s not for nothing that they say that in the Soviet years they built to last, so to speak. At first I drove on smooth roads, and then my father allowed me to turn onto rough terrain. Driving on rural roads is more difficult - it shakes on uneven surfaces, but is more or less comfortable. If used on the track, it must be replaced with a 19-tooth running sprocket. It’s better to ride on the highway without a stroller; without it, the dynamics are better and the maximum speed is higher. By the way, you can drive up to 140 km/h. We can go further, but it’s somehow scary, and I’m not going to risk my life. As an option, there is also a sprocket with up to 15 teeth, together with it and with a converted stroller (into a platform) you can take even oak logs out of the forest. As a result, Planet 5 turns into a mini-truck. The main thing is not to overheat the engine and monitor the condition of the clutch. But this applies mainly to heavy loads, because off-road conditions often cause problems with the clutch and chassis. If you often drive off-road, then over time the front fork begins to knock quickly. In this case (to prevent this from happening), you need to monitor the level and condition of the oil. If you regularly use the Planet for forestry and other household chores related to the transportation of goods, I recommend taking with you the necessary spare parts - a capacitor, carbon brushes, a relay (relay), a clutch drum, five pieces of spark plugs, ignition cams. I guess that's all. It is also advisable to install a wheel with a herringbone tread on the rear; it will provide better cross-country ability and traction properties. Sometimes it happens that you have to wrap a metal chain around the drive wheel in order to get out of the muddy ground. So you can also take the chain with you. Maximum fuel consumption (off-road) is 5-6 liters. When I drive along a grassy forest road, I often encounter stumps (they are almost invisible under the grass). It is better to place your feet on the engine (in halves), otherwise your feet will crash into these stumps.
- Alexander, Petrozavodsk. I have owned this motorcycle for several years, bought it from a relative, and he sold it as no longer needed. I can characterize Planet-5 as a reliable, maintainable and unpretentious motorcycle, adapted to difficult operating conditions. I will note the easy handling, which didn’t take much getting used to. All spare parts are affordable and of high quality, but they are not always on sale - you have to order, or look somewhere at a disassembly site, from private sellers, crawl through advertisements, etc. I thoroughly studied the pedigree of this motorcycle, it is a deep modernization of Planet-4 . In the fifth generation, many improvements appeared, including low fuel consumption, clear gear shifting (although the gearbox remained a 4-speed manual). The engine has a new cylinder head, thanks to which the engine is cooled better. This feature had a beneficial effect on the reliability of the internal combustion engine in hot weather. In addition, the developers installed a new exhaust system with a more pleasant and bassy sound. The ignition switch is located on the instrument panel, which is very convenient. In general, all controls are located so close at hand that you don’t have to reach for them (everything is at hand). The carrying capacity is also at a high level, as is the efficiency - even when transporting several bags of potatoes, you can accelerate to a decent speed, and at the same time keep within 3.5-5 liters per 100 km. The maximum speed is 120 km/h. Motor power 22 hp. s., engine displacement 345 cc. see. I fill up with 92nd gasoline.
Noise reduction
At the very beginning of production, the new IZH Planet-5 motorcycle caused quite a lot of complaints about the high noise level. In this regard, it was necessary to modernize the engine. At medium and high speeds the piston skirt could be heard knocking. There was a need to increase the diameter of the piston by several microns so that it interacts more closely with the cylinder mirror. However, this method does not always pay off, since there is a danger of the engine jamming. Nevertheless, the design bureau took a risk, calculated the dimensions correctly, and the engine noise decreased significantly.
Sources of noise also lay in the chassis. The rear suspension, which is the most active part of any motorcycle, needed to seal the connection between the hydraulic shock absorbers and the pendulum fork. Special rubber silent blocks were installed to insulate the metal parts, resulting in reduced noise.
The muffler, which was originally direct-flow, raised quite a lot of questions. The exhaust rumble exceeded the permissible decibel limits. We had to radically change the design of the damper. The internal cavity of the muffler was equipped with mesh partitions, which significantly reduced the noise level.
Ignition
The production of the IZH Planeta-5 motorcycle began during the perestroika years. The USSR was experiencing changes that affected almost all sectors of the national economy. At the same time, the staff of the Izhevsk Machine-Building Plant tried in every possible way to maintain its production potential. Motorcycle production was expanding its base. The IZH Planet-5 model began to be equipped with a modern ignition system operating on an electronic basis. The contactless principle was new at that time, and many consumers were distrustful of the “know-how.” However, domestic motorcyclists soon became convinced of the reliability of the BESZ and the ease of maintenance of the electronic system. The main problem of the standard distributor-breaker, contact burning, is a thing of the past. The first motorcycle on the territory of the USSR, on which the most modern functional devices were installed, was considered the IZH Planet 5. Electronic operating principle ignition was one such device. However, some motorcycles were produced with outdated, but quite reliable contact breakers.
Weaknesses and shortcomings of the IZH-P5 engine of the IZH Planet 5 motorcycle
Why did they stop producing the IZH Planet motorcycle in Russia? Oddly enough, the Kovrov Machine-Building Plant named after Dektyarev (ZID), as well as the former Soviet, now Belarusian Minsk Motorcycle Plant, still supply their motorcycles to the market. As for the Izhevsk Machine-Building Plant, which produces IZH motorcycles (Planet, Planet-Sport, Jupiter), the last production batch of motorcycles was produced in 2008, then, due to difficulties arising from the economic crisis, the production of IZH motorcycles was curtailed. It’s a pity, because the state could have provided assistance to the plant. At that time, Izhmash had a lot of experimental design work on promising motorcycles, both with two-stroke and four-stroke engines. I have a lot of positive memories associated with the IZh “Planet-3” and “Planet-5” motorcycles.
Wiring
The IZH Planeta-5 motorcycle is equipped with a standard set of incandescent lamps, switches and instruments. The 12-volt lamps are arranged in such a way that each can be replaced if necessary within a few minutes. The total number of light bulbs is 17 pieces, including:
- parking light bulb;
- high and low beam headlights;
- control lamp, responsible for the operation of the generator;
- speedometer indicator light;
- turn signal lamps on the motorcycle handlebars, rear fender and side trailer;
- side trailer marker lamp;
- trailer brake light;
- tail light lamp;
- motorcycle brake light lamp;
- high beam indicator light;
- light for monitoring the neutral position of the gearbox;
- turn signal indicator light;
- neutral signal light.
The electrical circuit of the motorcycle includes the following devices:
- generator;
- turn signal switch;

- ignition switch;
- sound signal;
- accumulator battery;

- ignition switch.
The electrical system includes a generator that powers an automatic non-contact ignition, independent of the battery. The IZH Planeta-5 motorcycle, whose wiring meets all safety requirements, is considered a good example of the rational use of electrical appliances.

The motorcycle uses 12-volt electrical equipment. The electrical wiring of the IZH Planet 5 motorcycle is single-wire, the role of the negative wire is performed by a metal frame.

For reference: as is customary in auto and motorcycle construction, modification of components and assemblies allows you to reduce the cost of products. For consumers, the advantage is that the price is low and a number of parts are interchangeable.
Generator
The motorcycle is equipped with a three-phase alternating current generator with an electromagnetic excitation circuit.
The principle of its operation is as follows:
- Electric current from the windings located on the stator is supplied to the rectifier;
- It converts it to direct current;
- And supplies it to consumers through the ignition switch.

The instructions provided include the following items:
- Voltage regulator with rectifier BPV-14-10;
- Generator rotor;
- Generator stator with windings;
- Current collector brushes;
- Ignition system cam (battery);
- Ignition system contact unit
For reference: on three-phase generators of the IZH Planet 5 motorcycle, the windings are connected according to a “star” or “delta” circuit. The rectifier is installed as a separate unit, and the IZH Planet 5 electrical wiring is connected to it.
Headlight
Unlike European countries, where there is a requirement that motorcycles with permanent magnet generators must be equipped with a battery - since a motorcycle with a non-working engine must have side lights - there are no such restrictions in Russia (see also about the Ural motorcycle wiring diagram).
For reference: with such a generator, IZH Planet 5 did not need an external current source when starting the engine. Therefore, the battery was not included in the electrical equipment.
Headlight bulb replacement process
The head light circuit includes:
- headlight lamp (35W);

- rear brake light lamp (15W).

Greetings again, friends! I was sitting in the evening leafing through the catalog of spare parts for my assembled planet 5-01. At the same time, I decided to look through the manual and operation book and saw various configurations of this model there. Then I looked at a couple of books and became interested in how many different configurations of this engine there were. This is what I want to share with you. 1987 IZH 7.107 - Planet 5, everyone knows this motorcycle. It was produced for quite a long time and managed to earn sufficient respect among the people. So a new motorcycle, Izh Planet 5, appeared. Compared to the previous model, this one looked completely different, and although the engine was almost the same, there were also minor changes. In the photo you see one of the first motorcycles of this model. As you can see, some components are still from Planet 4 - the engine cover, kick starter, gear shift foot. But this is exactly what Planet -5 originally looked like. Later, the magazine “Behind the Wheel” published an article about the emergence of a new “Planet”. Now the motorcycle produced for the people had the same appearance as in the photo in the magazine. All improvements are described in detail in the article, so I won’t rewrite it a second time. Although I got Planet 5 already in 2015, its improvements after 6 years of owning Planet 4 are obvious. I especially liked the presence of one muffler. How more spacious it became on the left side! And you won’t hit the pipe with a kick again, and you don’t need to remove it if you need to get into the clutch. And the wiring, which has a minimum of plugs and connectors, is beautiful! In general, those who have driven both this and this will understand me. But of course I love my first motorcycle, IZH - Planet 4, it has more to do with it and I just became attached to the fours. It seems that the lyrics are over - we can move on. A new model has been released! At that time, buyers were also offered a luxury model. She looked like this. Plastic shields, updated fairing, rear trunk. Cool equipment for that time! And everything is so harmonious in appearance. Time passed, progress did not stand still. In 1990, IZHMash offered three new modifications of this motorcycle! At this time, a new “Orion” fork, disc brake and cast wheels appeared. Their appearance on this model is closely related to the development of prototypes with an engine capacity of 500 cm3; in the previous post about these engines it was even written about this. The most popular of these modifications was, of course, “7.107-015”. Briefly about these new trim levels. IZH 7.107 - 014. Cast 18-inch wheels with drum brakes. Retail price 1085 rub. (not a bad price tag ;-)) IZH 7.107 - 015. New telescopic fork, disc brake. Cast wheels 19 and 18 inches. Retail price 1150 rub. IZH 7.107 - 016. New telescopic fork, disc brakes, spoked wheels. Retail price 1060 rub.
In addition to this, the following modifications were added: IZH - P5 K. IZH - P5 Tourist “7.108T”. IZH - P5 Lux "7.107L-015". Here is already the maximum set of everything that could stand at that time.
Another interesting point. On the Internet I also saw photos of motorcycles with engines painted black. And that’s how they were painted at the factory. Maybe they were preparing something else, but it didn’t work out. These are the models.
They also planned to launch the Planet 5 series with an engine capacity of 400 cm3. But during the tests it turned out that with such a volume terrible vibrations arise. And simply the engine resource will not be so long. You can look at this prototype.
Now, new models of IZH-Planet 5 were introduced only in 1995. At this time, Planet 5-01 was developed, which I have been trying to assemble for 2 years. I'll describe it briefly anyway. The new model had electronic ignition and a permanent magnet generator. Now we could forget about cams and various adjustments of clearances. And it was possible to drive without a battery. A separate lubrication system made it possible to pour pure gasoline into the tank and independently supply the required amount of oil to the mixture. The rear brake drive changed the kinematics and looked more aesthetically pleasing. This planet received the index "01". This motorcycle looked like this as standard. IZH 7.107-01. There are already much more complete sets. It was already possible to play with wheels, a fork, separate lubrication, “lux”, and cylinders. I'll show you the basic configurations. 7.107-020-01. 7.107-025-01. 7.107-040-01 7.107-012-01
The “Lux” modification usually added a fairing, trunk, and guards. Such a set could be installed on any of the above-mentioned motorcycles and only the letter “L” was added to the index.
Closer to 2000, things began to go not so well and modifications with the “01” index were no longer released so often. They began to install a standard engine from 1987, there were slight differences in the internals, but this was more related to the clutch drum, which was already fitted with a wide chain, and the left engine cover was different. There were also often planets with 2 mufflers. These are already late modifications.
As a result, we can conclude: where we started is where we came to. But still, if you take it all together, there was so much diversity! Of course, closer to the closure of motorcycle production, they were simply saving money on motorcycles: less chrome, a tank without rubber bands, just the bare minimum. Here, of course, I have not mentioned all the modifications, but you have seen the main ones. I'll save the rest for another post, where there will be models as well as specials. appointments and others. But still, some consistency in the development of this model can be noticed. "IZH Planet 5": repair and prevention
Motorcycles, like any road equipment, need maintenance and repair. The IZH Planet-5 model has a fairly long service life, but at the same time the machine requires preventive and sometimes major repairs. Routine maintenance of the motorcycle can be limited to timely lubrication of the hinge and sliding components, which include the rear suspension bushings, chain drive, accelerator handle and front brake lever.
The brake mechanisms themselves also need periodic cleaning. If the front wheel of the motorcycle is equipped with a disc brake, it must be disassembled and washed with a liquid cleaner such as Schnell-Reiniger or another product of a similar effect. As a rule, front disc brake maintenance is carried out when replacing the pads.
If the motorcycle has drum brakes, they also need to be periodically disassembled, cleaned and adjusted. This must be done at least once a year, and in the event of extraneous sounds during movement, knocking or friction, an inspection of the brake mechanism should be carried out immediately. The malfunction can be eliminated by adjusting the unit, and if the part breaks or becomes deformed, it must be replaced. It is unacceptable to ride a motorcycle with faulty brakes.
Diesel IZH Planet 5
Considering the model range of IZh motorcycles and their development over time, one can notice quite serious intentions in order to get a good and high-quality motorcycle that will be quite competitive with foreign motorcycles. Some motorcycles actually learned from this and were produced for export to developed countries, such as the IZh Planet Sport. which has found recognition in some European and other countries. But there were also failed projects, and usually there were quite a lot of them, even more than that, and some were completely amazing; from a certain point of view, such motorcycles were even absurd. The diesel Planet was just such an unusual project.
Major renovation
A technical revision of the IZH Planet-5 model should be carried out as necessary:
- when the piston group wears out, when compression decreases and engine power drops;
- when extraneous noise appears in the gearbox;
- when the clutch “drives”.
Simultaneously with the overhaul of the motorcycle, you should carry out an inspection and preventive maintenance of all components and assemblies without exception, as well as touch up scratches and level out dents on the motorcycle body, if any.
If it is necessary to replace individual parts, they should only be replaced with new ones purchased in specialized stores. Spare parts for IZH Planet-5 are sold in a sufficient range.
Preventive motorcycle repairs can be done in a home workshop or garage. It is important that you have a set of necessary tools at hand, these are spanners and open-end wrenches, drifts, files and rasps, a vice, a drilling machine and a grinder.
Major repairs of a motorcycle, engine or gearbox are only possible in a specialized workshop equipped with all the necessary equipment, lathes and milling machines and a full set of metalworking tools.
If there is a need to replace a worn cylinder along with the piston, then you should purchase new parts in the original packaging, since in this case they will be matched in pairs and match the parameters. In this case, no adjustment is required.
Resource
An important condition for the long-term operation of an engine that has undergone a major overhaul is proper running-in. The process consists of two stages - running the engine on a stand or on a stationary motorcycle; the second cycle is a test run in road conditions, on the move.
In both cases, the proportions of oil in the combustible mixture should be increased to 1:10, and the engine speed should be adjusted to the minimum. After 4 hours of running-in, you can increase the speed to medium, but make the process cyclical - after working for one hour, turn off the engine for 30 minutes, then start it again.
After a full break-in, the motorcycle should be maintained in a certain mode, avoiding overload and, most importantly, overheating of the engine. The machine must be operated for a certain period of time with only one driver, no passenger, no side trailer and no load. In this case, the final grinding of the cylinder/piston pair will occur.
400 kilometers is the optimal distance that a motorcycle should travel without a load, then it will be possible to reduce the amount of oil in the fuel mixture to a ratio of 1:25, and also operate the car with a side trailer.
