Why is the exclamation mark on the instrument panel of the Lada Priora and what to do?

Drivers are notified of the presence of malfunctions in various vehicle systems using icons on the instrument panel. It is not always possible to decipher the meaning of such burning icons intuitively, since not all car enthusiasts are well versed in cars. In addition, on different cars, the graphic designation of the same icon may differ. It is worth noting that not every light on the panel only indicates a critical malfunction. The indication of light bulbs under the icons is divided into 3 groups by color:

  • Red icons indicate danger, and if any symbol lights up in this color, you should pay attention to the signal from the on-board computer in order to take measures to quickly resolve the malfunction. Sometimes they are not so critical, and it is possible to continue driving the car when such an icon on the panel is on, but sometimes it is not worth it.
  • Yellow indicators warn of a malfunction or the need to take some action to drive the car or service it.
  • The green lamps of the symbols inform about the vehicle’s service functions and their activity.

We will present a list of the most frequently asked questions and an explanation of the icons and indicators that light up on the instrument panel.

There are many badges with a car silhouette emblem. Depending on additional elements, this indicator may have different meanings.

When such an indicator lights up ( a car with a key ), it informs about malfunctions in the engine (often a malfunction of a sensor) or the electronic part of the transmission. To find out the exact cause, you will need to perform diagnostics.

A red car with a lock lights up , which means that problems have arisen in the operation of the standard anti-theft system and it will be impossible to start the car, but if this icon blinks when the car is locked, then everything is normal - the car is locked.

A yellow vehicle indicator with an exclamation mark notifies the driver of a hybrid vehicle that there is a problem with the electric drive. Resetting the error by disconnecting the battery terminal will not solve the problem - diagnostics are needed.

the open door icon lit when a door or trunk lid is open, but if all the doors are closed and the light on one or four doors continues to shine, then often the problem should be looked for in the door terminals (wire contacts).

The slippery road icon begins to flash when the stability control system detects a section of slippery road and is activated to prevent slipping by reducing engine power and braking the slipping wheel. There is no need to worry in such a situation. But when a key, a triangle, or a crossed out skid icon appears near such an indicator, the stabilization system is faulty.

The wrench icon pops up on the display when it’s time to perform vehicle maintenance. It is an information indicator and is reset after maintenance.

Warning icons on the panel

The steering wheel icon can light up in two colors. If the yellow steering wheel is on, then adaptation is required, and when a red image of the steering wheel with an exclamation mark appears, you should already be concerned about the failure of the power steering or power steering system. When the red steering wheel lights up, your steering wheel will probably become very difficult to turn.

The immobilizer icon usually blinks if the car is locked; in this case, the indicator of a red car with a white key signals the operation of the anti-theft system. But there are 3 main reasons if the immo light is constantly on: the immobilizer is not activated, if the tag on the key is not read or the anti-theft system is faulty.

The handbrake icon lights up not only when the handbrake lever is activated (raised), but also in cases where the brake pads are worn out or the brake fluid needs to be topped up/replaced. On a car with an electronic handbrake, the parking brake light may come on due to a glitch in the limit switch or sensor.

The coolant icon has several options and depending on which one is lit, draw conclusions about the problem accordingly. One red lamp with a thermometer scale indicates an increased temperature in the engine cooling system, but a yellow expansion tank with waves indicates a low coolant level in the system. But it is worth considering that the coolant lamp does not always light up at a low level; perhaps there is simply a glitch in the sensor or float in the expansion tank.

I’ll try if I have time this week, I’m not leaving for long, I’ll write back later, thank you!

Or maybe someone else has some options, or has encountered the same problem.

    Fault indicators

The battery icon lights up if the voltage in the on-board network drops; often this problem is associated with a lack of battery charge from the generator, so it can also be called the “alternator icon”. On vehicles with a hybrid engine, this indicator is supplemented by the inscription “MAIN” at the bottom.

The oil icon , also known as a red oil can, indicates a drop in the oil level in the car engine. This icon lights up when you start the engine, and does not go out after a few seconds or may light up while driving. This fact indicates problems in the lubrication system or a drop in oil level or pressure. The oil icon on the panel may have a droplet or waves at the bottom; on some cars the indicator is supplemented with the inscription min, senso, oil level (yellow inscriptions) or simply the letters L and H (characterizing low and high oil levels).

The airbag icon can light up in several ways: either the red inscription SRS and AIRBAG, or “a red man wearing a seat belt,” with a circle in front of him. When one of these airbag icons lights up on the panel, the on-board computer notifies you of a malfunction in the passive safety system, and in the event of an accident, the airbags will not deploy. Read the article on the website for the reasons why the airbag sign lights up and how to fix the problem.

The exclamation mark icon may look different and its meaning will accordingly be different. So, for example, when the red (!) light is on in the circle, this indicates a malfunction of the brake system and it is advisable not to continue driving until the cause of its occurrence is determined. They can be very different: the handbrake is up, the brake pads are worn out, or the brake fluid level has dropped. A low level is precisely what poses a danger, because the reason may not only be in heavily worn pads, as a result of which, when you press the pedal, the fluid disperses throughout the system, and the float gives a signal about a low level, the brake hose may be damaged somewhere, and this is much more serious. Although, very often the exclamation mark lights up if the float (level sensor) is faulty or shorted, and then it simply lies. On some cars, the exclamation mark is accompanied by the words “BRAKE”, but this does not change the essence of the problem.

An exclamation mark can also light up in the form of an “attention” sign, both on a red and yellow background. When the yellow “attention” sign lights up, it informs about a malfunction in the electronic stabilization system, and if it is on a red background, it simply warns the driver about something, and, as a rule, explanatory text is displayed on the dashboard display or combined with other informative text designation.

    5. ESD malfunction (yellow steering wheel on the instrument panel)..
    6. The steering wheel is yellow and won't start, please help.
    7. Urgent HELP ESp is on and the steering wheel is yellow..
    8. The steering wheel is flashing yellow...
    9. ..

    Other common cases

In addition, the exclamation mark may have a different meaning, which means not only a malfunction in the brake system. So, for example, a yellow indicator with this sign in brackets indicates that the electric drive in a car with a hybrid engine is faulty. The problem cannot be solved by removing the terminal - it is necessary to undergo diagnostics.

It is worth noting that when driving towards the workshop with such malfunctions, you need to be prepared that you will have to press the brake pedal harder to brake, and you also need to take into account that the free play of the pedal increases, which means the braking distance increases.

    Removal and installation

This is not such a complicated procedure as it might seem. And it even requires very few tools:

    1. Socket wrench for 8.
    2. A socket with a knob, or a 13mm socket wrench.
    3. Figured (phillips) screwdriver.

And nothing more than the ability to use them. This is provided that the steering wheel itself has already been removed, which is a different story.

Well, now go ahead. Remove the plastic covers from the steering column by unscrewing 2 screws and unfastening 2 fasteners. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the four bolts and separate the lower part of the lining. Now the lock and the “helicopter” - the turn switches and wipers - are in the way. First of all, pressing the antennae on the connectors, disconnect all the wires. Then, using a size 8 wrench, loosen the clamp that attaches these devices, after which they will freely come off the shaft casing.

Disconnect the two connectors from the ESD ECU. Remove the plastic cover from the special pin.

Do not unscrew the lower nuts completely, but turn them a few turns with a number 13 wrench. But pull out the coupling bolt of the intermediate shaft hinges completely, unscrewing its nut by 13. Well, there you go. Having unscrewed all the fastening nuts, you can remove the faulty Priora EUR. Using a 13 key, release the lower shaft of the device from the splined joint. OK it's all over Now. You can try to fix the malfunctions described above yourself, take it to a workshop, or simply install a new unit on your Priora, proceeding in the reverse order.

The terminator is a period and the exclamation mark is ...continue

    Chris

An exclamation mark (! ) is a punctuation mark that performs intonation-expressive and separative functions, which is placed at the end of a sentence to express amazement, appeal, strong feelings, excitement, and the like. An exclamation mark can also be used when addressing: “Comrades! All for the defense of the Motherland! "or after the interjection: "Ah! Don't tell me about him! . It can be combined with a question mark to indicate a question - an exclamation (according to the rules of Russian punctuation, the question mark is written first: “Where are you going?!”) and with an ellipsis (in Russian typography, an ellipsis after an exclamation mark has not three, but two dots: “We We're drowning!.."). In relation to Church Slavonic and ancient Russian writing, the exclamation mark is called amazing. The so-called satirical exclamation point, enclosed in brackets and placed after a word or statement, indicates the absurdity or incorrectness of what was said. In professional practice, an exclamation mark in brackets, on the contrary, is used to confirm an extremely unusual statement, as an indication of its intentional rather than erroneous nature (for example, in medicine when writing a prescription for a dosage that exceeds the maximum permissible). Some languages (most notably Spanish) also use an inverted exclamation mark ( ¡ - U+00A1), which is placed at the beginning of an exclamation clause in addition to the regular exclamation mark at the end. In American typography in the 1960s - 1970s, a punctuation glyph consisting of an exclamation point and a question mark was used, called interrobang ( ‽ - U+203B). The exclamation point comes from the expression “note of admiration.” One theory of its origin is that it was the Latin word for joy (Io), written with an "I" above the "o." The exclamation mark was introduced into English typography in the 15th century and was called "sign of admiration or exclamation" or "note of admiration" until the mid-17th century. In German orthography, this sign first appeared in the September Bible in 1797. The mark was not found on conventional manual typewriters until the 1970s. Instead, they would type a period, backtrack one character, and then type an apostrophe. The exclamation mark first appeared in the Catechism of Edward VI, printed in London in 1553. In programming languages In the C language and some other programming languages, the symbol “!” denotes the logical negation operation, and the combination “!=” denotes the “not equal” comparison operation. Some languages also use "!==" and other compound characters. In some BASIC dialects, an exclamation mark placed immediately after a variable name means that this variable is a floating point variable with normal precision https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exclamation_mark

    Fuse box

The weak link of the electric power steering on Kalina is the fuse box; if something doesn’t work, it’s worth checking them. To get to them, you need to open the dashboard, to the left of the steering wheel. To do this, pull the top part towards you and the latch will open.

Check if the fuse is working, if it fails, replace it. It is very easy to check, check the integrity of the thread inside the fuse. Changing a 50 amp relay to a 30 amp one will also help.

Newer versions of Kalina are equipped with electric amplifiers from Hyundai, which has a positive effect on its reliability. However, there are still thousands of cars with the domestic version, which malfunctions and breaks down from time to time. Now it will be easier for you to repair the electric power steering on Kalina yourself. The main thing to remember is that not every amplifier shutdown is a breakdown. And you can find the problem yourself and fix it, but somewhere you will have to go to a service center.

    Let's sum it up

As you can see, the Priora EUR itself is not a complex design, which somewhat simplifies the process of replacing individual system components. However, the active use of electronics reduces the reliability of such a system as a whole. In practice, more often than not, malfunctions of the electric power steering occur not due to mechanical breakdowns, but as a result of problems with connectors, sensors, contacts, wiring, control modules, etc.

In any case, with regard to ESD, it is necessary to start with computer diagnostics, and only then move on to an in-depth check of all system components individually.

For this reason, the power steering, regardless of type, must be periodically checked and serviced (in the case of power steering, you need to monitor the tightness and change the power steering oil; in the case of power steering, at least in-depth diagnostics should be performed). This approach makes it possible to increase the service life of the system and also avoid unexpected breakdowns of the vehicle's power steering.

How long do you need to drive a car with a “novice driver” designation?

If a beginner finally makes up his mind and starts driving a vehicle, having previously installed an “exclamation mark”, he should know when he can get rid of this icon.

After two years from the start of driving, the “exclamation mark” can be safely removed by the car enthusiast. It is believed that exactly two years is the period of time after which the driver feels much more confident on the road . Moreover, official statistics confirm this fact. Inexperienced drivers are involved in traffic accidents 2% more often than experienced drivers. Therefore, it is worth understanding the established rules and, if necessary, installing this designation on your vehicle.
