Spare wheel mounting bracket White LADA Largus from 2012

In most cars, the spare tire is located in a special niche, which is present in the luggage compartment and is covered with a shelf. In this regard, the designers of the domestic high-capacity station wagon Lada Largus indulged in an unconventional method of placing the spare wheel. And many are interested in the question: where is the spare tire? They placed this wheel in a special basket, which they hung from the outside to the bottom in the trunk area. If the new owner of this model is not aware of the location of the spare tire, then it may take him some time to find this object, during which he is guaranteed to be in complete amazement.

How to remove and install a spare tire in Largus?

Next we will tell you in detail how to remove the spare tire. Since the spare tire in the Lada Largus station wagon we are considering is located in a hard-to-reach place, in order to provide convenient access to it you will need to hang the car with a special lifting device or operate from a hole.

So, let's film!

  1. The basket, which is designed to hold the spare tire suspended, has a special hook. It is secured with a bolt. First, we unscrew the specified fastener a small number of turns. We use a size 17 head with a suitable extension.
  2. Next, we proceed to removing the handle of the basket itself from the specified hook.
  3. Now we need to lower the basket to a certain angle. Here you need to manually hold the spare wheel.
  4. Having achieved this, remove the spare tire and set it aside.
  5. We remove the basket itself from the brackets present on the body elements of the bottom.
  6. When the holding basket is dismantled, you can begin to remove the lock. This is not always required, but you should not lose sight of this point. Here we use a Torx T40 type wrench.

Install the cart.

  1. Before installing the lock body, we install an O-ring, which acts as a gasket between the body element of the Lada Largus and the product considered here.
  2. We fasten the body itself using the indicated two bolts.
  3. We install the hook in its original place and screw in the bolt (not completely) that secures it.
  4. We place the basket levers into the corresponding brackets located on the body.
  5. Now you can stow the spare tire.
  6. We raise the basket itself to the required level, after which we secure the handle in the indicated hook.
  7. Tighten the hook bolt with full torque.

The removal operation should be carried out with sufficient frequency, which will allow you to easily remove the spare tire at the right time in road conditions.

The Russian-French car LADA Largus, which first rolled off the production line in 2011, is a full-fledged station wagon, produced in three main versions: a 5-door station wagon, a 7-seater minivan and a 5-door van. Belongs to the category of front-wheel drive city cars with a 4x2 wheel arrangement. A common question among car owners: how to change tires on Largus? This article will outline the guidance in detail.

Moving the spare tire to the stern door

If the owner has set out to convert the engine of his Lada Laprgus to gas fuel, then installation of gas cylinder equipment will be required. But where to install the cylinder itself? It is for these purposes that owners move the spare wheel to the rear door, freeing up space for installing a container for fuel. In this case, there is only one way out - a spare wheel for the rear door.

For these purposes, you will need to acquire an appropriate device called a bracket. It allows you to securely fix the spare wheel on the surface of the stern door. The estimated price of such a device fluctuates around 4 thousand rubles.

There are a couple of design options for the bracket in the implementation network. Among them:

  • a rotary type bracket installed on the surface of the rear right door;
  • a product of reinforced construction, the fastenings of which are installed under the bottom in the luggage opening.

Both options involve mounting the bracket on standard points on the body. There are corresponding holes for these purposes. Here the manufacturer saved the owners from the need for modifications in terms of constructing additional holes.

Bracket selection and installation

Brackets for fixing a spare wheel on Largus appeared on the car accessories market not so long ago. There are two types of such fastenings:

  • spare tire holder on the rear door: fixed and rotating versions available;
  • reinforced spare wheel mount - fixed in the trunk opening and to the bottom of the car, replacing the tow bar.

To install the fastener, you do not need to drill new holes for bolted connections; existing standard places are used. The spare wheel on the back door can become a decoration if you purchase an additional cover. It can be ordered in any color and with any inscription.

If there is a conventional bracket, the fastening gate is opened first, then the tailgate. The reinforced lock has its own characteristics: first the left holder is unscrewed, after which the wheel tilts to the right.

Installing the bracket takes no more than 20 minutes:

  • unscrew the upper nuts of the lower and upper hinge of the rear door on the right;
  • the bracket is placed on the vacant seats;
  • screw the hinge nuts and two fastening bolts into the standard places near the door lock.

The installation is complete, all that remains is to put on the protective cap or cover, if any. Installation of a reinforced holder will take more time, since the bracket is fixed to the bottom of the car. This means that a lift or inspection hole will be needed.

Bracket for spare wheel

This bracket allows you to hold both the spare tire and the spare wheel with equally good efficiency. This product is also not capable of interfering with the functioning of parking sensors and allows you to install a tow bar without additional effort.

Next, using a specific example, we give the features of the bracket. The product has compact dimensions and weight:

  • length – 55 cm;
  • width – a similar parameter (55 cm);
  • height does not exceed 30 cm;
  • The weight of the product is 5 kg.

In addition to the specified bracket, manufacturers include a cover for the spare tire, made of eco-leather, or a hard plastic cap.

Advantages and disadvantages

Not all Largus are equipped with baskets, since additional fastening has advantages and disadvantages:

pros Minuses
  • Frees up space in the trunk.
  • The design is created in such a way that it does not interfere with the operation of parking sensors.
  • The spare tire basket is used for tuning.
  • Increases the size of vehicles, making parking difficult.
  • Requires purchase of a cover and fasteners.
  • The original basket is more expensive than the analogue one.

Some manufacturers provide fasteners, a cover for the spare tire, or a hard plastic cap with a company logo along with the product, but drivers assure that it is more profitable to buy each element separately.

Let's sum it up

Despite the unconventional location of the spare wheel in the LADA Largus station wagon, the practicality of the car is not compromised at all. This decision of the manufacturer pursued the goal of achieving maximum versatility for transporting various types of cargo. The solid hard floor of the luggage compartment makes this possible.

The fastening itself is not complicated and can be dismantled without much effort. The main thing is to provide convenient access to perform actions.

The manufacturer also took care of those who like to install gas equipment, providing for the possibility of installing the bracket we reviewed. This also comes with convenience and does not restrict trunk capacity, for which they buy the Russian LADA Largus station wagon.

Summing up

The procedure for replacing the spare tire on a Lada Largus should not create difficulties for the car enthusiast. The factory provides simple and clear access to the spare tire, as well as the availability of spare parts. The replacement can be made using a small number of tools and a standard jack. The convenient Lada Largus spare wheel holder will securely fix the spare wheel in the desired position and save space in the luggage compartment of the vehicle. The main thing is to follow the safety rules and follow the instructions when changing a wheel on a car.

Tips for choosing tires

The Lada Largus is available in a front-wheel drive version, so it is better to purchase two sets of tires: a summer and a winter version. Preference can be given to both domestic and foreign rubber manufacturers. It’s not worth saving on purchasing as an all-season product: multiple experiments have proven its dubious effectiveness. Winter in the Russian Federation is almost always snowy, so it makes sense to choose Lada Largus Cross wheels with studs. The popular Velcro doesn't really help when the road is heavily covered with snow.

Every motorist may find himself in a situation where he needs to change a tire. No one is protected from a tire puncture, plus, it may be necessary to change the tire before winter or before the start of the summer season. One way or another, you just need to have the following things in the trunk:

— Actually, a spare wheel — A jack — A wheel wrench (for unscrewing the wheel bolts), preferably with an extension cord — A pump with a pressure gauge.

It is not difficult to notice that one of the wheels has “burst.” This is, first of all, weighting or spontaneous turning of the steering wheel in any direction. If you notice these signs, stop immediately. Don’t even think about driving a little further “to the yard” or anywhere else. Driving with a flat tire will eliminate the possibility of getting it repaired.

So you're on the sidelines. Before changing a wheel, be sure to secure the vehicle on a level surface. No hills or holes! Engage first gear and handbrake, place some kind of support under the car wheels.

In addition to the wheel, jack, and wheel wrench, you may also need gloves for your hands and a small board to place under the jack. A plank is especially needed on uneven surfaces, such as dirt or sand.

Before installing the jack under the body stiffeners, the bolts must be loosened. A wheel wrench is for exactly this purpose. Why do we unscrew the bolts without lifting the car, you ask. The fact is that when the car is raised, the wheel will rotate a little, and the (slightly) loosened bolts will be easier to remove later.

The jack must be installed strictly in the designated place. You can feel it with your hand - it is a groove/recess under the bottom. If you can’t find it, look under the bottom, it will be easier. Start lifting the car only after making sure that the jack is securely fastened. Many people get into this problem - an incorrectly installed jack cannot support the weight of the car and collapses, causing the car to fall with a crash. You should not be convinced of this personally; unnecessary repairs due to negligence will be unpleasant.

As soon as the wheel is above ground level, we stop lifting and completely unscrew the bolts. The wheel must be pulled off the guide pins. It is also necessary to install a new wheel in accordance with the bolt pattern.

Once you have installed the wheel, tighten the 4 bolts by hand, lower the jack and only then tighten the bolts with a wheel wrench. It is worth taking this seriously. Your safety on the road depends on this.

By the way, you should never lubricate the threads of the bolts - they will quickly unscrew. It will be unpleasant if you are left without a wheel at high speed. One can only guess the consequences...
