Many people say that a UAZ dump truck is of no use, they say the carrying capacity is not the same, and the box is quite small - it can be loaded and unloaded by hand without any problems. I don’t argue, the eyes are afraid, but the hands do the work. But having loaded and unloaded 5-6 UAZs a day, You’ll already be thinking differently. Now I’ve already put enough work into my hands, especially since the moment of purchase the goal was to make a dump truck, so I’ll start implementing my plans! I don’t know why everyone calls it a subframe - after all, it’s on the frame, which means there will be a subframe. So the subframe was originally I wanted to make it from a bent 120 channel, after all, it is light, and after all, the subframe will twist at least a little together with the frame - I think that the frame on the UAZ should work to twist - this compensates for the very small strokes of the spring suspension - which is very important in off-road conditions. But It was not possible to find a bent channel in our glorious Kurgan, so for production I bought a 100*50 profile pipe with a 3mm wall.

I cut off all the old-style body mounting plates, the area under the subframe turned out to be flat except for the attachment points for the box and another jumper - they are welded overlapping the frame.

These steps were compensated by cutouts in the rubber laid along the entire length of the frame.

The products of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant have always been famous for their cross-country ability and wide functionality. The model of this plant - UAZ-452, released back in 1965, gave rise to a whole family of small multifunctional off-road vehicles, including the UAZ-3303 model.

DIY dump truck UAZ-3303

UAZ-3303 is a small truck with good all-terrain qualities due to the presence of all-wheel drive. It has a frame structure, with a cabin installed on it, under which the engine is located, and two boxes - a transfer case and a gearbox. Behind the cabin there is a cargo hog platform that allows you to transport up to 1200 kg of payload.

This vehicle has become quite popular in agriculture, but its owners complain about the lack of equipment for dump unloading, since the manufacturer of this vehicle does not equip it with such equipment. Owners often do not agree with this decision of the plant and remake the UAZ-3303 with their own hands, creating a dump truck on its basis.

Those owners who have converted their cars indicate a significant increase in functionality and a decrease in the time for unloading the body from cargo. At the same time, the carrying capacity of the car itself does not decrease, since it is not very high anyway. But the installed lifting equipment makes the driver’s life easier, especially if the car is used to transport work loads.

There are several options for making a dump truck out of a UAZ-3303. The simplest solution is to lay a square beam under the front side and attach a long cable to it, which is laid along the entire length of the body. Unloading is very simple: the side of the car is opened, the cable is pulled out and attached to something reliable (tree, pole, etc.). Then the car starts up and begins to move forward, while the beam moving along the body pulls the load. But this method is not always practical.

Repair and replacement

As a rule, the body of this car is more often repaired than replaced. Moreover, in modern conditions it is extremely difficult to carry out a correct replacement, it is recommended to learn how to carry out repairs.

The first thing you need to remember when repairing the UAZ 3303 is to remove the cab. There may be quite a few cracks on the frame underneath - the result of merciless use on broken roads.

Be sure to change the threshold, which easily rusts over time. It is recommended to cover all cracks that cannot be repaired with a special compound;
Carefully diagnose doors and openings. Replace the seals, being sure to straighten the edges of the doorway and adjust the rubber in place. The locks will also have to be adjusted, cutting off unnecessary touches of the doors with a grinder;
Problem areas of the body must first be straightened, then treated with putty and painted;
Whether to change the upholstery or not will depend on taste and financial capabilities. As a rule, 5 thousand rubles is enough to replace the upholstery with new one;
The chassis is being repaired. It is recommended to go through all the cuffs, pump out the air from the brake system, change the bearings, rebuild the clutch - there will be a lot of things to do here;
It is also recommended to check the engine thoroughly;
Bumper is a must! The tuning one looks better. It's easy to replace the factory one. There are a lot of advantages: snowdrifts are not scary, traffic cops and pedestrians look at you with respect.

You need to know that the UAZ has one popular problem related to the front axle. The grenade may start knocking, and then all this will turn into control problems (if the CV joint is not changed in a timely manner).

Wooden platform

For obvious reasons, this type of body suffers the most over time. Although, on the other hand, if the owner does not take care of the metal surface in a timely manner, the body will rust.

So, the first thing that comes to mind in the process of repairing a 3303 wooden platform is ordering new wooden boards. They line the bottom of the body. It is recommended to select the dimensions of the boards as follows: 30x200 mm. The material must be dry and there must be a minimum of knots.

Removing used decking is also considered a type of repair and replacement. Before this operation, it is recommended to measure the position of the gas tank so that no problems arise in the future.

Perpendicular beams are aligned to the same height. It is advisable to treat new boards with an electric planer, and to increase body strength and minimize gaps, they need to be laid overlapping, as on new UAZs.

The platform is laid with boards from the edges. This is done so that the end board does not end up on the outermost board (it may be narrower than the rest, and fixing the edge to a narrow board is very inconvenient).

It is advisable to fix the boards with ordinary weave self-tapping screws. You need to screw 2 fasteners into each beam. To prevent the fixing bolts of the UAZ from sticking out, it is recommended to recess them.

A wooden platform must be treated with an antiseptic, although if the wood is of high quality, then even in this form the body will last for 20 years or more.

Metal platform

Step-by-step algorithm of actions:

We take the frame from GAZ-52;
We cut the joints of the frame channels with a grinder.

Note. It is recommended to assemble the body directly on the frame, since the width of the UAZ is not the same - there is a noticeable expansion from the tow bar to the transfer case.

We assemble the structure for the UAZ, weld all the elements;
We place a 20-gauge channel under the body, and then reinforce it with an 8-gauge channel;
Be sure to also reinforce with short stiffening ribs and corners;

Next, on the finished platform we place sides 50 cm high, made from profile;
We weld the lateral displacement limiters;
We weld the front clamps to the frame;
Don’t forget to place pads for locks cut from a 3.5 mm sheet of iron.

Principle of operation

The whole structure works like this: when it is necessary to lift the body, the driver moves the valve to a position that ensures oil flow only in one direction and turns on the power to the pump drive. The pump takes oil from the tank and supplies it under pressure to the hydraulic cylinder. When the body is fully raised, the power to the pump drive is turned off. The crane will not allow the body to lower under its own weight, since it does not allow oil to return. The body is lowered by moving the valve to the oil reverse position, the pressure in the hydraulic cylinder drops and the oil flows back into the tank, and the body lowers down under its own weight. To overcome serious off-road conditions, you will have to install special mud tires with a minimum size of 33-35 inches.

The hydraulic type is considered a more reliable, powerful unit, but it works much slower, and its operation requires a running engine that pumps pressure into the system.

The UAZ Profi dump truck has a simple design and ease of operation. This transport is designed to work in any climatic conditions and on any terrain. All the main elements of the car are mounted on a welded support frame, which is made of high-strength steel. This unit can be repaired in the field; all components and mechanisms are easily accessible.

How to make it yourself

In order to equip a UAZ with a dump truck, it is necessary to prepare drawings.

You can lay a square beam under the front side of the car, attach a long cable to it, which needs to be wound around the entire body part. To unload, you need to open the side of the vehicle, pull out the cable and attach it to some support, for example, a tree or pole. After this, you should start the engine and start moving forward. Moving along the body, the wooden beam will pull the load together.

Wheel tuning

In order to increase the cross-country ability of a truck, it is necessary to pay special attention to the wheels. They need to be changed to wider ones. The maximum diameter should not exceed 24 inches. This tuning is organized in this way:

to begin with, the car body is raised, spacers are installed and the wings are trimmed;
bridges need to be replaced with Barsov bridges with a larger width;
In addition, the differential needs to be changed. In this case, you can achieve an amazing effect: the wheels will not slip in any bad weather, and the transmission will last much longer;
You can also replace springs and shock absorbers. The first should be installed longer, and the second should be imported;

Important! To prevent the UAZ from skidding when turning, it is necessary to install additional parts in the form of stabilizers. They are attached to the sides and, thereby, help the car maintain balance.

Principle of operation

During unloading, the driver must move the crane equipment to a position in which the oil fluid will flow in only one direction. After this, the power to the drive of the pumping mechanism is turned on, which takes part of the oil and transfers it under pressure to the body of the hydraulic cylinder.

When the body part is fully raised, the power to the hydraulic pump drive is turned off. The body will not be lowered thanks to the crane.

In order for the body to lower, the crane must be turned. After this, the oil fluid will begin to flow in the opposite direction, the pressure level in the hydraulic cylinder will begin to drop, and the loading platform, under the pressure of its own weight, will return to its original position.

Interior trim

In order to give the car a more modern look, it is necessary to change the interior trim, as well as the seats. To achieve this, the following scope of work is carried out:

First, the interior trim is done. To do this you need:

strip off all the old upholstery. At the same time, you can remove mirrors and anything that interferes with the process;
then take a piece of the fabric that you liked best;
Accurate measurements are taken and then cut from this canvas;
it is necessary to cover the entire interior with it, while laying synthetic winterizer or any other soft material between the UAZ roof and the fabric.

The seats need to be replaced. You can choose absolutely any shape you like. If they are not spacious enough, you can adjust them a little by trimming the edges. The old seats are then thrown away. For new ones, the following work is carried out:

first, two small corners are welded to the seats themselves;
Holes are made in these parts and screwed into the floor using small bolts.

Due to the fact that the seats are slightly pushed forward, you can sit on them, reclining slightly. This method allows you to enjoy the road without straining your back and arms.

After this, you can tune the dashboard by replacing the film with performance indicators of the devices.

Thus, at minimal cost you can greatly transform your truck. This is what the cabin will look like after the tuning:
