Life hack: Priora or Lacetti, which is better - car characteristics

Choosing a car is quite a responsible task. Comparison of different models and advertisements for the sale of cars takes place according to different parameters. First, the price and year of manufacture of the vehicle are selected, and only then, even if the budget is limited, you don’t want to live to repair a very old car. Up to 300,000 rubles you can choose cars such as Priora or Lacetti. Let's compare them: design, body, engine and gearbox - to understand which is better!? Which is faster?

These models were once the most popular on the market. Korean manufacturers at that time had not yet found their niche and had not created a car that would appeal to car owners, so they were “mass” models, if you take AvtoVAZ, then this is the Priora. Or the same Chevrolet Lacetti, which was in demand at that time because it was budget-friendly.

By the way, these cars are unpretentious, have acceptable fuel consumption and reasonable prices for spare parts. Or is this a coincidence, perhaps the struggle of that market. The confrontation between Priora and Lacetti during the years of release of these models was not so obvious, but the very fact that they have remained “alive” since then speaks of their advantages. Cars have several bodies, the most selectable is a station wagon (wagon), both cars have it. Read the article to the end and we will figure out the features of these cars!

Model design

When choosing which is better in design - Priora or Lacetti, there is no clear winner, because everyone’s preferences, favorite design, and modernization are different. Lada and Chevrolet are very similar to each other, but there are differences in details. Lada Priora is the successor to the VAZ-2110, the “good old ten”.

  1. If the sidewalls vaguely resemble the “tenth” family, then the designers tried and changed it at the front and rear. Instead of rectangular headlights and taillights that ran the entire width of the trunk, the Priora had new blocks. At first, the door handles and mirrors were black plastic, and only after some time they were replaced with parts in body color.
  2. If previously VAZ, in order to save money, did the same as Renault, supplying cheaper components (but Renault also installed plastic bumpers), AvtoVAZ decided to abandon the idea in favor of style and design. In 2013, a restyling took place, which did not change the car too much in appearance - changes are noticeable on the mirrors, front fenders and bumpers. A nice bonus was such a small thing as daytime running lights, which come in the same unit with the high beam headlights.
  3. Security is something that should be given close attention. Firstly, the Priora's external rear-view mirrors are larger, which contributes to better visibility. There is a negative feature of the VAZ-2170 - the door seals are in one layer, which is why raindrops and snowflakes will fall into the cabin when the door is opened. Chevrolet designers provided for this point by adding seals to the sidewalls of the body.
  4. As for the bottom of these cars, important fuel and brake lines are covered with plastic only in the Priora, but the power unit is attached to the subframe only in the Lacetti. Both cars, if they fall into a good hole, can end up with an unfortunate breakdown.
  5. Chevrolet released the finished model to the market, positioning it as a car for young people. But Lacetti appealed to many people, having received a slightly universal design. Even in its dimensions it is similar to Priora, but the wheelbase is different. The body itself, despite the fact that the car began production in 2004, remained relevant until the end of production of the model in 2013. In the same year, by the way, the VAZ-2170 was restyled.
  6. The Lacetti's headlights are more compact, but in quality they are not inferior to the light that the Priora produces. The taillights are more angular and shaped like a trapezoid. They are located very high, so it may seem that the Lacetti sedans have a higher rear end than the VAZ-2170. But in terms of capacity parameters, everything is not so clear.

“Autostart is not needed, only protection is needed”

Car owners with such wishes will find many car alarms suitable for them, which are given a separate category on our website. For example, for domestic or budget foreign cars without a digital bus, StarLine A63 is suitable. The car alarm has most of the advantages of older models, guaranteeing reliable protection and uninterrupted operation. If the alarm system is installed on a car with a digital bus, then StarLine A63 CAN+LIN is suitable.

The A63 is also the only system that can be retrofitted with an autostart function. So, if during operation you realized that remote start is necessary, you can purchase an additional device and install it.

Comparison of bodies and wheelbases

The comparison of sizes includes the sedan, hatchback, Priora station wagon and Lacetti. The VAZ-2170 was also produced in a three-door hatchback body, but it was not mass-produced, and now in good technical condition it is almost unique. Priora (values are given in millimeters) sedan:

  • wheelbase: 2492;
  • front track width 1410;
  • rear track width 1380;
  • body length: 4350;
  • body width: 1680;
  • vehicle height: 1420.

Lacetti:

  • wheelbase: 2,600;
  • front track width: 1480;
  • rear track width: 1480;
  • length 4295;
  • width 1725;
  • height 1445.

As a result, these cars are approximately equal - the Lacetti is even shorter, but wider. Ultimately, a lot is decided: ground clearance, cross-country ability, trunk volume, driver comfort, which depends on anthropometric data, comfortable individual fit, and the usual settings of the seat, steering wheel and rear-view mirrors.

Is it better to take the new Lacetti (cost 400) or the new Priora in the maximum configuration (cost 340)?

No options - lacheti!

even if you don’t have enough money compared to the original, it’s still better than a Lacetti - take a loan or a loan for 50 thousand. Or even a Lacetti at the price of a new Priora - that’s not bad either! Although the Priora, in principle, is not bad, but it would cost from 240-290!

Chassis, ground clearance

On Russian urban and suburban off-roads, a good suspension is a must, and with a low car, even in winter snowfall you won’t be able to get out of the house. At least for this reason, car enthusiasts consider the VAZ-2170, together with the Chevrolet Lacetti, to be reliable.

Ground clearance of Lada Priora is 16.5 cm, Lacheti is 145 mm. The difference is noticeable when going through fairly deep holes. The Priora is equipped with an independent suspension at the front and semi-independent at the front. But the Lacetti has an independent suspension, and due to this it “wins back” the lost 2 cm of ground clearance. The Chevrolet even turned out to be softer. The Lacetti works with disc brakes, while on the Priora they are installed only at the front, with drum brakes at the rear. The quality of braking can be judged equally between the two models, but essentially the braking will depend on the freshness of the brake fluid in the system.

What to choose?

If you are looking for a car that you will use for its intended purpose, that is, to move from point A to point B, then the Chevrolet Lacetti is definitely your choice. This car is completely worth its price. For the money that is being asked for it on the secondary market, you will not find a more suitable option. Judge for yourself: C - class, with independent suspension, proven engines, wear-resistant interior, good design.

If you are a careful owner, then the car will serve you faithfully for many years. Lacettis are bought by people who know what they want to get from a car, usually family-oriented and calm.

Lacetti is a Priora among foreign cars . Budget car for the people.

Priora is often bought as a first car, to learn, or for tuning. Lada buyers are younger people who want to modify the car externally and technically with their own hands. There are an incredible amount of parts on the market for this. Spacers, turbos, seat covers, headlights, etc. You can buy a Priora at a very low price and, if you have the time and skills, bring the car to perfect condition. This car is for young people.

In many ways, choosing between these two cars is a kind of age test. Younger people will choose the Priora, older people will prefer the Chevrolet Lacetti.

Salon

As for interior capacity, the Lada and Chevrolet can only comfortably accommodate two adults and three children. There is enough space in the back for a maximum of two people up to 165 cm tall. The Priora’s center console is “more fun” - with a gray insert and an analog clock. With the Lacetti, everything is more strict and blends in with the black steering wheel.

The Priora's steering wheel is also black - it, along with the center console and exterior, will change only by 2013, when production of the Lacetti will be stopped. From the factory, the Lada Priora is equipped with only one airbag in the basic configuration; the maximum configuration will add another one for the passenger.

The Lacetti, even with basic settings, is made with two airbags, and the SX equipment will add side airbags that fire when the central pillar is hit. Finally, the Priora does not have such little things as covering the skids with protective fabric or a neat door card, while the Lacetti, on the contrary, can boast of a well-built interior.

Engine performance and fuel consumption

For equal evaluation, only manual transmission versions will be compared. Priora pre-styling was equipped with several types of engines:

  • Volume 1.6 l 81 hp Acceleration to “hundreds” is 13.5 seconds, consumption in the city is 9.8 liters per 100 km, on the highway – 5.6 liters.
  • Volume 1.6 l 87 hp Acceleration to 100 km/h is 12.5 seconds, mixed consumption is 7.3 liters per 100 km.
  • Volume 1.6 l 98 hp Acceleration to “hundreds” is 11.5 seconds, consumption in the city is 9.8 liters per 100 km, on the highway – 5.6 liters.
  • Volume 1.8 l 98 hp Acceleration is 11.5 seconds, consumption is 7.7 liters per 100 km combined.

The Lacetti has three engines. And only the 1.8 liter engine does not consume oil after 100 thousand kilometers.

  • 1.4 l., 94 hp Acceleration to 100 km/h is 11.6 seconds, consumption in the city per 100 km is 9.8 liters, on the highway - 5.7 liters.
  • 1.6 l., 109 hp Acceleration to 100 km/h is 10.7 seconds, consumption in the city is 9.2 liters, on the highway - 5.7 liters.
  • 1.8 l., 122 hp Acceleration is 9.6 seconds, consumption in the city is 9.9 liters, on the highway - 5.9 liters.

The characteristics of the motors are almost identical. The Priora often has a 98 hp engine, while the Lacetti has a 122 hp engine.

LADA Priora vs Chevrolet Lacetti: battle on equal terms?

I am often asked whether the new updated Priora and the Lacetti, albeit a used one, which has been on the market for a long time, are comparable? Considering that the cars are of slightly different classes, it is quite funny to compare, but are we in Russia looking for easy tasks? So let's go, let's find out who is cooler: Priora or used Lacetti. In terms of design, I think there should be no doubt. Of course, both options are very far from perfect, but the skillful hand of Italian designers helped the Koreans and Americans create a decent budget car that is still relevant and does not get lost in traffic among its peers. AvtoVAZ is in no hurry to please with design innovations, and even the updated appearance of the Priora slightly falls short of the neatness and thoughtfulness of the Lacetti’s exterior. In general, 0:1 in favor of the “foreigner”.

Now the salon. Some may argue, but, in my opinion, in terms of interior design, the Priora is in no way inferior and even takes half a step forward. Well, the new finishing materials look simply great against the meager background of the Lacetti. Let’s add to this better sound insulation, as well as all sorts of stuffing in luxury cars, and we understand that the score has become equal – 1:1.

In terms of capacity, Priora has the advantage. With approximately equal interior space, the Russian car has a more spacious trunk: 430 liters versus 405 liters for the Lacetti. By the way, this also applies to cars in a hatchback or station wagon. The trunk of the Priora hatchback can accommodate 360 liters of cargo, and the Priora station wagon can swallow 444 liters. In turn, the Lacetti hatchback can carry 275 liters, and the station wagon – 400 liters. The score is 2:1.

Let's move on to the technical stuff. Both cars offer three powertrain options. The Priora has 1.6-liter engines with an output of 87, 98 and 106 hp, and the Lacetti has a 1.4-liter engine with a power of 95 hp, a 1.6-liter engine with an output of 109 hp. With. and a 1.8-liter unit with a capacity of 122 hp. The latter is less common on the secondary market, and was not sold as en masse as the others. In addition, it is unrivaled in terms of power, so we will compare the two younger engines with similar ones from the Priora.

The 98-horsepower engine of the Priora is a little more torquey, which is why the sedan demonstrates slightly faster acceleration dynamics from 0 to 100 km/h (+0.1 seconds), and in terms of fuel economy it looks preferable - average consumption is 7.2 liters versus 7.3 - 7.4 for a used 95-horsepower Lacetti engine.

The 106-horsepower Priora engine is slightly inferior in acceleration dynamics (-0.3 seconds), but is noticeably more economical in fuel consumption: 6.9 liters versus 7.1 liters. If the Lacetti is equipped with an automatic transmission, then the consumption increases to 8.1 liters. As you can see, the Priora is much more economical than the Lacetti, for which it receives another point, the score is 3:1.

Now about the service. The new Priora has at least some kind of warranty and some of the breakdowns can be eliminated through the warranty service, but the Lacetti will have to be repaired at your own expense. Considering the fact that a used Chevrolet Lacetti https://auto.ironhorse.ru/category/usa/chevrolet/lacetti (regardless of where you bought it - from “officials” or “from hands”) can hardly be called a reliable car ( failures of engine sensors alone are worth it), I think the conclusion is obvious: even if the Priora is not an ideal work of automotive art, it is still better than the old Lacetti.
