Author: Ivan Baranov

The mass air flow sensor is used to regulate the amount of air flow entering the engine and necessary to form the combustible mixture. Many car owners often complain about this regulator, since in practice it can fail quite quickly. Accordingly, our compatriots are increasingly installing DBP and DTV instead of DMRV. You can learn more about what is needed for this and how to carry out the replacement procedure from this material.

Needed for replacement

Requirements for the ECU (electronic engine control unit):

  • ─ January 5.1 2112-1411020-41;
  • ─ January 5.1 2111-1411020-61.

A good option is January 7.2. It has free firmware J7ESA, on which you can easily organize DBP. January-5 2111-71,2112-71 and ECUs from BOSCH cannot work with DBP. In this case, it is recommended to replace the ECU (price from 3,000 rubles).

Absolute pressure sensor (DBP or MAP sensor):

  • ─ Most often this is a sensor from Gazelle (manufactured in Kaluga), catalog number 45.3829 or 745.3829;
  • ─ VW AG 03D906 051 Siemens SME 5WK96930-R (presence of a built-in intake air temperature sensor).

Air temperature sensor (ATS):

How does the temperature and air pressure sensor work?

The design of the sensor includes:

  • an atmospheric chamber connected to the intake manifold;
  • vacuum chamber;
  • electronic chip;
  • diaphragm;
  • 4 strain gauges.

There is a separate air temperature sensor, but its temperature is processed simultaneously with information from DBP.

As a result, the detector operation looks like this:

  1. the intake air puts pressure on the diaphragm, bending it;
  2. in strain gauges installed on the diaphragm, the resistance changes and a piezoresistive effect occurs;
  3. the voltage also changes relative to the resistance
  4. semiconductors connected by a bridge are very sensitive, and the electrical circuit also amplifies the voltage, increasing it by 1-5V.
  5. As a result, the ECU receives an output voltage value corresponding to the pressure in the meter.

Stories from our readers

“Fucking basin. "

Hi all! My name is Mikhail, now I’ll tell you a story about how I managed to exchange my two-wheeler for a 2010 Camry. It all started with the fact that I began to be wildly irritated by the breakdowns of the two-wheeler, it seemed like nothing serious was broken, but damn it, there were so many little things that really started to irritate me. This is where the idea arose that it was time to change the car to a foreign car. The choice fell on the melting Camry of the tenth years.

Yes, I had matured morally, but financially I just couldn’t handle it. I’ll say right away that I am against loans and taking a car, especially not a new one, on credit is unreasonable. My salary is 24k a month, so collecting 600-700 thousand is almost impossible for me. I started looking for different ways to make money on the Internet. You can’t imagine how many scams there are, what I haven’t tried: sports betting, network marketing, and even the volcano casino, where I successfully lost about 10 thousand ((The only direction in which it seemed to me that I could make money was currency trading on the stock exchange, they call it Forex. But when I started delving into it, I realized that it was very difficult for me. I continued to dig further and came across binary options. The essence is the same as in Forex, but it’s much easier to understand. I started reading forums, studying trading strategies. I tried it on a demo account, then opened a real account. To be honest, I didn’t manage to start earning money right away, until I understood all the mechanics of options, I lost about 3,000 rubles, but as it turned out, it was a precious experience. Now I earn 5-7 thousand rubles a day. I managed to get the car buy after half a year, but in my opinion this is a good result, and it’s not about the car, my life has changed, I naturally quit my job, I have more free time for myself and my family. You’ll laugh, but I work directly on the phone)) If If you want to change your life like me, then here’s what I advise you to do right now: 1. Register on the site 2. Practice on a Demo account (it’s free). 3. As soon as you get something on the Demo account, top up your REAL ACCOUNT and go to REAL MONEY! I also advise you to download the application to your phone, it’s much more convenient to work from your phone. Download here.

Instructions for replacing controllers

Let's consider the replacement procedure using VAZ cars as an example. To implement this system, it is important to take into account the requirement for the control unit - it must be version January 5.1 or January 7.2. The second option is more preferable, since you can find free firmware for it, on the basis of which you can make DBP. Versions January 5, as well as Bosch ECUs, are not suitable for this, since they will not be able to function with DBP.

Required tools and materials

To make the transition from mass air flow sensor to DBP, you will need the following elements:

  • directly the DBP itself, you can use Gazelevsky (45.3829) or from Volkswagen (Siemens SME 5WK96930-R);
  • you will also need DTV, you can use it from Niva, Daewoo Nexia, or take DTOZH for VAZ cars (you will have to modify it a little);
  • to install DBP you will need a speed sensor plug;
  • To connect the DTV you will need a DTOZH plug.

Photo gallery “Getting ready for installation”

Installation and connection

For the system to work well, you need to install all the elements correctly:

  1. The DAT is mounted on the engine panel, since it is very sensitive to vibrations. The controller should be installed with the plug down, this will prevent the accumulation of moisture and condensation inside. The device is connected to the gasoline pressure regulator pipe through a special tee; alternatively, it can be connected to the receiver.
  2. The DTV can be installed in the housing of the air filter element, in the pipe next to it, or in the flow meter housing. Securely fix the sensor so that it does not become loose due to engine vibrations.
  3. To connect the devices, you will need to run wires from the electronic control unit to the controllers; the wires themselves can be laid through a special hole next to the vacuum brake booster. As for the connection order, for DTV it is not particularly important, but in the case of DAT it is necessary to take into account the pinout, it is marked on the body of the device.
  4. Once the devices are installed and connected, it is necessary to flash the control unit, since different parameters will be used to operate these sensors. In the case of VAZ cars, you can use firmware J5LS (J5 Light Sport), J5SPT0005. As stated above, the flashing procedure is a rather difficult and responsible task, so you need to be prepared for this step. If you have doubts that you can do everything correctly, then it is better to entrust this task to specialists.

Firmware for DBP and DTV

After replacing the mass air flow sensor with DBP and DTV, it is necessary to recalibrate the ECU firmware, because For new sensors, different calibrations must be used. Example firmware for ECU Y5.1 without mass air flow sensor: J5LS (J5 Light Sport), J5SPT0005 (J7SPT0005). How to configure firmware for video:

Result : we get high reliability, but an increased delay when pressing the gas pedal. On a naturally aspirated engine, a system with a mass air flow sensor will be more preferable, since it has greater measurement accuracy, and the use of air pressure sensor and air flow sensor on a production engine is impractical. What do you think, is it worth switching from mass air flow sensor to air pressure sensor and air flow sensor on a stock engine without tuning?

Does it make sense to switch from mass air flow sensor to DBP and DTV on an engine without modifications?

Absolute pressure sensor (MAP-Sensor) on a VAZ

The idea of using DBP (Absolute Pressure Sensor, also known as MAP-Sensor) to estimate the amount of air consumed by the engine instead of the usual mass air flow sensor (MAF) on the domestic injection system January 5 has been floating around for a long time. The root cause is the MAF crisis of 2003 - 2003, when the sensor suddenly became incredibly expensive and scammers, having learned about them from car services, threw a huge amount of counterfeit products onto the market. A wave of thefts of air flow sensors directly from cars has also swept across the country. Many still remember the special lock for the mass air flow sensor (“chastity belt”), which appeared on sale at that time. It was then that an intensive search began for hardware and software solutions for “implanting” DBP on the domestic VAZ injection system.

The advantages of installing a DBP - greater speed, high reliability and unpretentiousness of the MAP sensor - make the modification very attractive. Moreover, many foreign cars are equipped with similar systems as standard. Looking ahead, I will say that, be that as it may, a system with a mass air flow sensor (MAF) on a naturally aspirated engine is more preferable, since it has greater measurement accuracy and the use of MAP on a production engine is impractical. For example, with DBP it is almost impossible to “fit” into EURO-III toxicity standards. And the situation with the mass air flow sensor was smoothly resolved, so it is completely illogical to use “bypass” technology on a production car.

Another thing is tuning. Especially affecting the intake system, for example, a 4-throttle intake, where the use of a mass air flow sensor is simply physically impossible. Russian chip tuners used an injection system without a mass air flow sensor for the first time in motorsport. Back in the 90s of the last century, based on the January 5 serial block, UncleSam developed its own injection system for auto racing, J5-Sport, which is still successfully used by athletes. True, according to DBP in J5-Sport, only correction is made for atmospheric pressure; all main calculations use revolutions/throttle as a load factor.

Although attempts to adapt serial firmware software for work in DAD were constantly carried out (I know of several more or less working projects), at present only the development of J5SPT0005 (J7SPT0005) from SMS-Software is of interest. This is the only development to date written practically from scratch, which has the correct averaging algorithm and conversion of pressure (vacuum) to filling.

Siemens - VDO , marked VW AG 03D906 051 Siemens SME 5WK96930‑R, was chosen as the “reference” sensor when designing the system . The choice of sensor is not accidental - firstly, the sensor is fixed directly to the inlet, without supply pipes; secondly, the presence of a built-in intake air temperature sensor; and thirdly, and importantly, the availability of ready-made calibration from the manufacturer.

Technical specifications T‑MAP Siemens-VDO specification

The firmware is not tied to a specific type of sensor used; users of the ChipTuning Pro program can easily recalibrate the firmware for almost any DBP + DTV pair.

The physical installation of the DBP on a car should not, in theory, cause any difficulties (as it turned out, it does not) - just choose a suitable place for it, drill a hole for the sensor and two to secure it. The sensor we selected has its own O-ring to ensure the system is sealed.

Next - that the use of a specific sensor is not at all a rigid condition; the system can be calibrated for any (except for sensors with a “reverse” characteristic) DBP and DTV. It is enough to know the slope and offset of the DBP and the calibration of the DTV.

The photographs show the installation of a GM sensor from a single-injection Niva and a DTV made from DTOZH. The Absolute Pressure Sensor is connected through a tube, the Air Temperature Sensor is installed in the place where the mass air flow sensor was previously located. IMHO the amount of air passing into the engine (to put it simply) depends on the cross-sectional area, inlet pressure, and time. The inlet pressure in normal mode is atmospheric. and this means the amount of air entering the intake tract will depend solely on the diameter of the flow section that determines the throttle. this is if you take the “ideal” receiver. But the engines are different, so are the intakes, and therefore, taking into account the peculiarities of the intake geometry of each individual engine, a correction table (revolutions / throttle) is introduced that characterizes the flow speed depending on engine speed and load. The pressure in the intake tract is also expressed through atmospheric pressure and through the throttle.

Here I have a January 5.1-2112-71, a mass air flow sensor. I was thinking about switching to DBP from DTV. They say the pedal is more responsive, the setup is easier, the parameters do not change over time, the cross-section of the air duct is larger.

What do you need besides the DBP itself with DTV? And what do you need to do with the wiring? And do they really only have advantages?

I read the article on the chiptuner; on the technical side, the only question left is the connection and calibrations.

You need January 5.1 - 41 or 61. But this is ideal, and it depends on what software the customizer has. I don't know about the settings. Pedal - yes. On the contrary, the parameters go away, for example, you climbed the mountains and it’s fucked up, it doesn’t go well. Or you set the res and may not even start it. In general, any change will require recalibration.

So there are also disadvantages.

I wanted to switch, but the high price tag convinced me. I had to change the block, the coils for the module, the wiring, and the little things would have cost about 500 bucks.

I’m not sure that this is even possible on Y5-71. The main disadvantage for you is that you will have to completely roll back the program.

Well, so - you buy DBP, DTV, two “Lira” type contacts for the ECU and a couple of meters of wire. You can redo the wiring yourself, it's not difficult. And for setup.

On the contrary, the parameters go away, for example, you climbed the mountains and it’s fucked up, it doesn’t go well.

I’m not sure that this is even possible on Y5-71.

The main disadvantage for you is that you will have to completely roll back the program.

The right advice is here:

Damn it says - January 71st doesn’t work with DBP

Gee-Gee

The firmware is of course not an indicator, but even I don’t believe that on the -71st block it is impossible to cut the DBP. The input is actually used from the mass air flow sensor, what is the difference?

The circuitry of the ECU January - 2112-41 (2112-71) may differ slightly from each other, primarily by the use of other high-current drivers. In new implementations of chip blocks - drivers from Motorola MC33385, instead of the usual TLE5216. These microcircuits differ in the protocol for reading driver diagnostics. Therefore, software supporting driver diagnostics written for TLE5216 will be incorrectly diagnosed on units where injector control is implemented on Motorola vehicles and, accordingly, vice versa.

What is DTV in a car?

If you want to broadcast channels in dvb t2 in your car, you will need additional equipment. Our article will tell you about this.

Features and uses

Many people want to watch digital TV in their car. Just a few years ago this was simply not possible, but now it has become a reality. You can easily watch many channels in your car with the help of modern technology. This will be very relevant if you often have to stand in traffic jams and have absolutely nothing to do with yourself at this time.

The dvb t2 standard is great not only for TVs, but also for cars, it was able to show its best side. With its help, you can ensure full reproduction of the digital broadcast system signal and broadcast it to the panel in the vehicle.

To use dvb t2 you will need a specialized tuner for your car. The broadcast is broadcast in an encrypted format, and the device acts as a decoder. It decrypts the transmitted signal using internal protocols, and then transmits it for direct playback on the monitor.

But modern car satellite television will cost a more significant amount. The antenna and tuner are slightly more expensive than for terrestrial digital television reception. The receiver operates in a completely different format; it looks like a standard car radio and is installed in its place. But such a system also has its advantages.

  • It is impossible not to note the higher quality of the picture, because such a car radio itself adapts to changes in the reception level and adjusts the main parameters.
  • Reception is provided almost throughout the entire country, and you will be able to fully travel out of town.
  • Easy to set up equipment.

Specialized car radio and features of standards

Before choosing a suitable tuner, you should decide on its standard. Let's compare a digital TV tuner used for a car and a satellite analogue.

Digital receiverSatellite
Low cost, the car radio is offered at an attractive price.You can use the receiver anywhere in Russia.
Can be used to view all major channels.Exceptional quality.
Ease of setup and versatility.More channels.
Excellent quality, work in several standards at once.Reliability of operation.
Constantly updating the list of broadcast channels.

It turns out that a car radio with a tuner according to the dvb t2 standard is best suited for use in the city. Digital receiver

It turns out that a car radio with a tuner according to the dvb t2 standard is best suited for use in the city. A car dvb t2 car radio will cost the buyer a small amount, and the set-top box can work with any signal formats.

A set-top box with dvb t2 technology for a car can be used with a signal up to high quality 1080p. In fact, the broadcast occurs in MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. But still, the receiver has a good foundation for the future.

DBP and DTV instead of DMRV

Domestic cars seem to be specially created for tuning. Almost half of the owners sooner or later come to various modifications to factory solutions: this especially applies to VAZovods. One of the popular modifications is the installation of DBP and DTV instead of the standard mass air flow sensor.

Let's understand the terms:

  • Mass air flow sensor, almost no modern injection engine can do without it;
  • DBP - absolute air pressure sensor;

  • DTV - air temperature sensor (can exist separately, or be integrated into the mass air flow sensor).

The designers of the car plant provided only an air flow meter, why do many VAZ owners try to get rid of it in favor of an absolute pressure sensor?

Device malfunctions

The main symptom of a DBP malfunction is excessive fuel consumption. As a result of a malfunction of the device, the ECU receives incorrect information about the pressure, which is actually lower than stated. As a result, a rich mixture enters the engine cylinders.

The dynamics of the engine sags sharply, which does not change when warming up. There is a strong smell of fuel in the exhaust. The color of the exhaust remains white even in the hot season. The idle mode of the engine does not reduce speed for a long time. The car moves jerkily when changing gears. A lot of extraneous sounds accompanying the operation of the engine.

As usual, you should start troubleshooting the device by checking the electronic circuit of the vehicle. Poor connections, dirty or charred contacts can all make the device appear to be faulty.

Failure of the temperature sensor located in the DBP housing also affects the overall operation of the device. It is necessary to check the vacuum hose for damage and depressurization. Make sure there are no other malfunctions or breakdowns inside the device.

The device cannot be repaired, therefore, in the event of a malfunction, it is immediately subject to complete replacement. The exception is cleaning contacts. Based on this, its diagnosis is carried out. The easiest way, for obvious reasons, is to install a new sensor and check the operation. If everything is fine, then the old device can be thrown away.

There is also a more accurate diagnosis of the malfunction. To do this, you need to equip yourself with the appropriate tools, such as a voltmeter, vacuum gauge and pump, as well as a tachometer. However, in reality, identifying a specific problem will not help the end user in any way and you should immediately think about replacement after checking the wiring.

Replacing the meter with a new one occurs without problems. The flexible hose and wiring harness are removed and the fasteners are unscrewed. After which the old device is removed, and a new one is installed in its place, repeating the entire procedure reverse to removal.

We recommend to buy

MAF or DBP which is more economical and better for VAZ

The purpose of the DTV is clear: it simply monitors the temperature; the MAF and DBP can work both with and without it.

Note that both sensors (mass air flow sensor and air pressure sensor) perform a similar task: determining the mass volume of air for the ECU controller. The engine control unit, in turn, forms the correct proportion of the fuel-air mixture.

Advantages of the MAF:

  • standard installation at the factory, the ECU firmware is not damaged;
  • ideally configured, does not require manual adjustment of parameters;
  • allows maximum fuel economy;
  • Replacing the sensor (in the event of a malfunction) does not require qualifications.

Advantages of switching to DBP (no matter with or without DTV):

  • low cost of the sensor (compared to the mass air flow sensor);
  • long service life: pressure sensors operate for almost the entire service life of the vehicle;
  • the ability to tune the engine according to power parameters;
  • improvement of power and torque characteristics (according to reviews from car owners).

For installation in the manifold, a 1/8" NPT thread is used; the delivery set also includes an adapter 1/8" - AN4 and an adapter for a 4.8 mm hose.

How to switch from DMRA to DBP and DTV

Usually they use a sensor from GAZelle cars. It is inexpensive and can be easily placed in the engine compartment of any VAZ. There are restrictions on compatibility with ECU controllers:

  • January 5.1 2112-1411020-41 and 5.1 2111-1411020-61 - compatible without restrictions;
  • January 7.2 - firmware needs to be changed;
  • January-5 2111-71, 2112-71 and any BOSCH are not compatible.

The DBP housing is fixed under the hood in a place protected from vibrations and moisture. The sensor fitting is connected with the help of a newly embedded fitting on the engine air receiver. The DTV is installed in place of the mass air flow sensor electronics, directly into its body.

To connect the electrical part, you will have to slightly modify the ECU connector. The connection diagram is shown in the illustration (for January 5.1 *** –41 and 5.1 *** –61).

After connection, you need to configure the ECU. This operation should only be performed by a qualified specialist.

Finding a new sensor

Finding a new DBP is quite easy. There is one problem: a new device costs a lot of money

. We recommend that car enthusiasts buy original sensors, since the quality of their performance is not satisfactory. In the case of an absolute pressure sensor, the requirements for the quality of the device are particularly high. However, there are also cheaper analogues on sale, which we will talk about a little later. You can find a new DBP by:

  • VIN code of your car;
  • Article number of the existing sensor;
  • Technical parameters of the car and engine.

The most popular way is to search by vehicle parameters. Not all online stores allow you to use the VIN code when searching, and the car enthusiast probably does not have the article number for the required spare part. On Avto.pro, the search system for car and internal combustion engine parameters is implemented as follows: the buyer goes to the catalog, selects the make and model of the vehicle, selects a category of spare parts (brake system, electrical, optics, etc.), selects the desired spare part from the drop-down lists . As you can see, this is a step-by-step search

, so it’s hard to make a mistake – you just need to be careful at each stage. Don't forget to check which engine model the sensor is selected for. Although different DBP models are often interchangeable, we recommend choosing a device that is guaranteed to be compatible with your car’s engines.

On the secondary auto parts market it is not difficult to find analogues of original absolute pressure sensors. If you search in foreign catalogs, you can find them there under the name “ MAP-sensor

" Often analogues are two or three times cheaper than the originals. It is worth paying attention to the products of companies that supply the conveyors of automobile concerns. It is worth highlighting the following brands:

  • Bosch (Germany);
  • Meat & Doria (Italy);
  • ACDelco (USA);
  • Inzi (South Korea);
  • EPS (Italy);
  • Denso (Japan).

Also, when searching for a sensor, car enthusiasts can find products from companies such as Era (Italy), Autlog (Germany), Delphi (USA). These are packaging companies whose quality of spare parts can be either low or completely satisfactory. Among car enthusiasts, this phenomenon is called a “lottery”. If your budget is limited, but at the same time after some time you are guaranteed to be able to buy a more expensive and guaranteed quality

sensor, the products of the above three packers are worth paying attention to.
