Niva Bronto Lynx is an interesting SUV that is not much different from a regular Niva. But this is at first glance. In fact, there are a lot of differences. The technical specifications are different and the price is correspondingly higher. But we will talk about this in more detail later.

Niva Bronto Lynx - an off-road version of the regular Niva

There are 3 modifications:

  • Niva Bronto Lynx in three-door version;
  • Niva Bronto Lynx in a five-door version;
  • Niva Bronto Lynx is a five-door with a large trunk, popularly known as VAZ 2131.

The Niva Bronto Lynx was first introduced in 2009. The name is so unusual - Lynx came from a competition held for fans of off-road riding. Many voted and decided to name this off-road modification Lynx.

At the Niva Bronto Lynx plant, all tests were carried out, which is why the full-fledged factory SUV is certified and mass-produced. The basis, of course, is the Niva 4x4.

The Lynx is specially modified specifically for driving on severe off-road conditions. The car was tested by many organizations and came to the conclusion that the LADA NIVA 4×4 “Lynx” is one of the best production cars in the world.

In the Niva Bronto Lynx, a lift of 4 cm was made. And the stroke of the rear shock absorbers increased by 5 cm. In addition, the load capacity was increased in this car due to the installation of stiffer front springs, which were taken from the armored Niva.

It is in personal garages across the country that craftsmen are trying to make it as suitable as possible for conquering real off-road terrain. As one of them said, it’s easier to shoe a flea than to successfully “shoe” a Niva for real “dirt.” Is there really no alternative?

Niva Lynx as an alternative to the garage auto industry

They started talking about her in 2009. The first information, first test drives and reviews have appeared. The modification is being released until today.

The Lynx is not just a converted Niva. It is a certified modification of the model, designed to overcome off-road conditions. It is based on the VAZ 21214 car, which PSA BRONTO OJSC upgrades to the level of an extreme SUV. Moreover, this modification is certified and agreed with the car manufacturer.

This means that all developments and calculations in the Lynx design were done, checked and tested at the level of the production model. This is the main guarantor of a sufficient level of quality and safety of the car.

What improvements?

But due to what modifications the company increased the off-road characteristics of the production model:

— The front and rear axles are self-locking helical differentials. — The front suspension travel was increased by installing new shock absorbers (25 mm more travel). And also using spacers for the upper ball joints. — Main pairs with a modified gear ratio of 4.1: 1. A ratio of 4.44: 1 is available as an option. — Reinforced springs front and rear. — The rear chassis is equipped with new shock absorbers with 50 mm more travel. — Reinforced rear axle (axle beam). — To increase ground clearance, the spring supports at the rear are raised by as much as 40 mm. — The wheel arches were modified with the installation of fenders (rubber extensions). — Off-road alloy wheels and tires in size 235/75R15 are installed. — Side mirrors are larger and can capture a larger viewing area.

Of course, it's hard to call this a new car or even a "heavy" modification. As you can see from the listing, neither the engine nor the gearbox have undergone any changes. But due to important modifications to the suspension and axles, the off-road capability of the vehicle has increased significantly.

In what ways is the Lynx better than the regular Niva?

Due to such alterations, compared to the base model, the Niva Lynx acquired:

— The front track has increased by 38 mm and the rear by 48 mm. — Ground clearance increased to 220 mm (instead of 170 on a regular Niva). — By optimizing the distribution number and other improvements, off-road performance has increased significantly.

Owner reviews

In the five years since the first presentation of the Niva Lynx, many have already become owners of this SUV. And they had their own opinion about the degree of reliability of the car.

There are conflicting opinions. Many people swear at the quality of the electric windows and the upholstery of the rear seats. I was very pleased with the build quality. Although many people preferred stock foreign SUVs to the Niva Lynx. But this criterion is more related to personal preferences.

In terms of off-road qualities, the Lynx is in many ways superior to the regular Niva. Now, even with its rather weak engine, thanks to a good transfer case and a more “flexible” suspension, the SUV gets out of any “shit” well.

Clearance

The lowest point of the car is under the rear axle, so in this place the ground clearance is 240 mm. Under the front axle, the ground clearance is 260 mm. So the ground clearance is good enough for off-road driving.

As for the track, it is almost equal on both axles - 1478 mm in the front and 1468 in the rear. For those for whom this is not enough, you can install additional equipment for additional money.

To keep the car body in good condition longer, a cataphoresis coating can be applied to it. To do this, you need to immerse the body in a special bath with an alkaline solution. After this, chemical processes will begin, thanks to which a special dioxide film will appear on the surface of the body, protecting the body from corrosion. Moreover, this film will even be in hidden crevices, so the protection will be excellent. In general, after this procedure the body will last 5 times longer.

Characteristics of the Lynx model

To the credit of our designers, the car turned out great. Indestructible chassis, simplicity of design - reasonable expediency has broken popularity records. The subsidiary successfully modernized the popular Niva model, turning it into a cash-in-transit armored car in the early 90s.

The Niva received all-wheel drive characteristics. The car has a spectacular exterior, and increased interior comfort also produces results:

Where did the name "Lynx" come from? The jeep received this name after an open competition among fans of Niva models, on the basis of which SUVs are produced. The Lynx model copes best with the complex Russian terrain, confidently overcoming unimaginable obstacles. Chassis tests were carried out at the Dmitrovsky training ground. This is a godsend for those who love driving through the harsh Russian landscape.

The basic configuration of Niva Lynx cars does not include air conditioning or music: these amenities can be ordered additionally along with anti-corrosion coating, a winch mechanism and additional protection for the bottom from penetration when driving off-road. Over time, Bronto began to produce other modifications of Lynx - Lynx-2, Lynx-3 and Lynx-4.

Lynx-2 is a five-door hatchback, slightly longer than the traditional Lynx. The most notable thing about its appearance, besides the body type, are the sills with running boards, a sunroof and additional headlights on the roof. There is a special expeditionary body, and the five-seater cabin can be equipped with a “smart” heating system if desired.

“Lynx-3” is the same five-door, only with increased body volume. When painted in “camouflage” it takes on a downright menacing appearance. This service is provided in all trim levels for an additional fee. Four additional headlights on the roof, increased ground clearance and large rear-view mirrors are the main characteristics of this modification.

Among the features of the Lynx-4, it is worth noting the roof lining inherited from the Fora.

Separately, it should be noted the modification “Lynx-Landing” - a three-seater SUV with an open body. This vehicle has space for weapons and ammunition, and the doors and body walls have been removed for increased mobility and strategic effectiveness.

Price of factory Niva Bronto Lynx

  1. The starting price of the Niva Bronto Lynx in the first modification without additional options is 644,400 rubles. If the car is painted in camouflage, its price will increase to 708,200 rubles;
  2. the cost of the 2nd modification of the Niva Bronto Lynx starts from 688,000 rubles, in camouflage - 767,600 rubles;
  3. The 3rd modification costs 723,000 rubles without additional options, in camouflage - 802,600 rubles.

If we take the top one with the maximum number of options, then the price of such a Niva will be 950,000 rubles.

As you can see, the price is simply astronomical, and for the emptiest version of the Niva Lynx. If we take into account that the new Niva 3D costs 439,900 rubles, then the difference is 204,500 rubles. We decided to calculate how much it would cost to make a 3D Niva from a standard Niva - Niva Lynx 1 in a two-door version.

Differences between Bronto and regular Lada 4x4

There is a slight difference in dimensions and technical characteristics (see characteristics of the regular Lada 4×4 and Bronto):

  • Extenders on modified arches
  • Alloy wheels R15 and tires 235/75 R15 Bontyre Stalker M/T with active ground tread.
  • The arches are carved and have anti-gravel protection.
  • Rubber arch extensions (the same ones the Lynx had) or a plastic Style body kit (depending on the configuration).
  • Self-locking screw-type differentials in the front and rear axles “Val-Racing” with a locking coefficient of 0.65 (whichever one you install yourself).
  • The main pairs have a gear ratio of 4.1 instead of the standard 3.9.
  • Box-reinforced rear axle (welded on the top of the beam). The springs rest against this box through the cups, due to which the rear part of the body is slightly raised.

  • Reinforced springs in the front suspension (Perm-made) and shock absorbers with increased travel in the front (from Chevrolet Niva) and rear wheel suspensions.
  • The body is reinforced with cross members (welded under the roof to install roof rails).
