What is a cabin filter adapter?
Such a filter is capable of capturing only large dust, poplar fluff and leaves. Do not be deluded by the appearance of the filter after 10,000 km of operation. The overwhelming majority of suspended particles freely penetrate into the car interior through the interfiber space of the synthetic padding filter strip.
AvtoVAZ planned to begin installation in November 2003. But, unfortunately, this remains only information.

Installing the Air Filter Adapter
Installing the cabin filter adapter is quite simple and takes no more than 15-20 minutes. There is no need to unscrew or remove the interior fan.
Installation procedure
1. lift the hood cover (8);
2. remove the frill side (1) from the visor (2) by unscrewing the screws;
3. remove the rubber seal (3) from the partition (4) separating the engine compartment and the air intake box;
4. Unscrew the screws securing the standard casing and remove the casing;
5. install the rear part of the adapter (5) in place, as shown in the figure;
6. install the front part (6) of the adapter;
7. fasten both parts with fastening brackets;
8. install the side of the frill in place;
9. secure the adapter to the seat with self-tapping screws;
10. put the rubber seal on the side;
11. insert the filter into the adapter (a new type filter for VAZ-2110 cars manufactured after 2003).
The domestic auto industry is forced, willy-nilly, to follow global trends. And although this happens with difficulty and a noticeable delay, new technologies are gradually becoming commonplace on AvtoVAZ products. One of these trends is the creation of a comfortable microclimate for the driver and passengers in the cabin. The advent of air conditioning systems and “smart” automatic climate control really contributed to the creation of a favorable microclimate inside the car. But concern for health also includes protecting people in the cabin from exposure to dust and unpleasant odors that enter the car through the ventilation system. Therefore, the appearance of a cabin filter in the 90s was received more than favorably.
The VAZ-2114, as a late modification of the Nine, was also among the models that received this filter element, but this did not happen immediately. That is, you may well find yourself the owner of a car on which the installation of this element is not provided. Finding out whether a VAZ-2114 has a cabin filter is quite simple: you need to press the heater casing with your hand. If the plastic bends easily without encountering any obstacles, you're out of luck. If you feel that there is something solid under the casing, this is the cabin filter. Note that this situation applies not only to 2114, but to almost the entire “211” family.
Where the VAZ-2114 cabin filter is located, there is also an air duct that supplies the heating/air conditioning system (if equipped) with outside air. By the way, access to the filter element for the entire family is not from the passenger compartment, as is customary with most foreign cars, but from the side of the engine compartment, in the area where the stove is installed, and this is one of the main features of the stove filter on the “fourteen”.
Types of cabin filters
These products are usually divided into two large subcategories:
- conventional dust filters designed to filter the external air flow from small debris and dust. They consist of two layers of special filter paper or synthetic fiber: the first is for rough cleaning, the second is for finishing. Such filter elements cope with their task perfectly, preventing dust from entering the cabin;
- Carbon filters contain a third protective layer containing activated carbon. Thanks to this, such a filter is able to retain (adsorb) many volatile substances and microorganisms, protecting the interior from the penetration of unpleasant odors from the outside, and also preventing many pathogenic bacteria from entering the car.
When should you change the cabin filter?
According to the manufacturer, the VAZ-2114 cabin filter should be replaced once every 15 thousand kilometers. Considering the state of domestic roads, we can safely say that these are clearly optimistic figures. But the service life of the filter element is affected not so much by mileage as by related factors:
- vehicle operating conditions. Rural areas are more characterized by high dust levels, and air pollution from exhausts from other cars is minimal; a regular filter will do here. In a metropolis, it is better to purchase a coal one, which will protect the driver/passengers from carbon dioxide, burning smell and harmful volatile substances typical of industrial areas;
- driving style: during active driving at high speeds, the cabin filter clogs noticeably faster;
- how often the vehicle is used. If you take a car only on weekends to go on vacation or shopping with your family, that’s one thing; if you drive a car every day to work, which is a fair distance from home, that’s another.
Some drivers change the filter every 5-7 thousand kilometers, others - twice a year, in early spring or late summer, before the onset of the off-season with its dirt and moisture. But most begin the procedure for installing the VAZ-2114 cabin filter as the corresponding symptoms appear: a decrease in the power of the air flow blowing from the deflectors, or the appearance of persistent unpleasant odors in the cabin, indicating that the filter is so clogged that it urgently needs to be changed.
Installation instructions
Even a novice driver who has only recently gotten behind the wheel and does not have extensive experience in independently servicing or repairing vehicles can handle installing an adapter for the cabin filter from a VAZ-2110 on VAZ-21099 cars. If you act step by step, without breaking the sequence, and also follow basic personal safety measures, everything will work out. At the same time, you will spend money only on consumables, which will allow you to significantly save on car service costs.
- Lift the hood and lock it securely so that you do not have to work with one hand and support the lid with the other.
- Unscrew the fasteners that hold the frill, made of plastic. The fasteners are located almost under the windshield. It's not difficult to find them. The frill, consisting of 2 halves, is dismantled.
- Remove the rubber seal from the partition that separates the air intake box and the engine compartment.
- Next in line is a plastic casing. To remove it, you must first unscrew the mounting screws that hold the plastic in place. It is under this that the supposedly cabin filter is hidden. Although in fact this is an ineffective plate, covered with far from the best material. You need to get rid of him.
- It is recommended to thoroughly clean the space under the casing from accumulated dirt, dust and debris.
- At the same time, it is recommended to check the current condition of the electric fan of the stove. If the heater is operating normally, there are no complaints about the efficiency of the fan; there is no need to touch or dismantle it. The adapter can be easily installed without this.
- Now you can begin installing the adapter. Since it is divided into 2 parts, the first is the rear component of the apron for the cabin filter.
- Covering the electric fan with the back, insert the front of the adapter.
- Using staples, both parts are connected to each other.
- The adapter body itself is fixed in its seats using the existing holes. If you choose the right adapter, everything fits perfectly in terms of fastenings.
- Next, return the seal to its place and install the frill.
- A full-fledged cabin air purification filter is inserted onto the front part of the adapter.
When installing the filter, carefully monitor the correct location of the filtration element. You should follow the arrows indicating the movement of air flows passing through the filter. The arrows should be directed inward, that is, towards the electric heater fan of your VAZ-21099. You can clearly see that purchasing and installing an adapter for the cabin filter on VAZ-21099 cars is extremely simple. Solving this problem will take literally 1 hour even for a novice car enthusiast, and no more than 3 thousand rubles with all consumables and the purchase of missing materials or tools. Although usually motorists manage to invest up to 2.5 thousand rubles.
Do not forget to test the operation of the heating and ventilation system with a new filter element. It would be a good idea to clean the air ducts, since a large amount of dust and contaminants could probably accumulate inside. Since they are already behind the new filter, you will not initially feel significant changes without cleaning the channels. As for replacing the cabin filter, the frequency of this procedure directly depends on the operating conditions. If you drive mostly in heavy traffic or on dusty roads, the filter life will decrease much faster. On average, consumables are changed every 5-7 thousand kilometers, or 1-2 times a year.
Replacement algorithm
Let us immediately note that attempts to reuse an old product by cleaning it with a vacuum cleaner will not lead to anything good: it will not be possible to clean clogged pores in this way, and the filter element (no matter whether it is paper or synthetic) simply will not withstand washing. Before changing the cabin filter on a VAZ-2114, you need to prepare a tool: two screwdrivers (Phillips and flat-tip), a 10mm socket wrench and a car vacuum cleaner. The replacement itself, despite the non-standard placement of the filter element, is not such a complex operation that it should be performed at a service station. The sequence of actions is as follows:
- open the hood;
- remove the rubber seal together with the fixing fastener;
- Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the screws that secure the plastic casing located in the middle part of the windshield;
- use the tip of a flat screwdriver to pry off the plugs, under which the bolted fastening of the ventilation system casing is hidden;
- unscrew the bolts with a wrench, remove the protective casing, disconnect the frill;
- dismantle the decorative mesh covering the filter element (it is attached with self-tapping screws);
- remove the old filter;
- we install the new product in its regular place, having previously lubricated its edges with sealant for a tighter fit;
- We assemble all the fasteners in the reverse order.
Cabin filter adapter VAZ-2114
Despite the declared efficiency of air purification, many owners of the VAZ-2114 complain that the standard filter element, which is a strip of padding polyester or paper, secured between a plastic sheathing. If we compare such a filter with analogues from other cars, the comparison will clearly not be in favor of the VAZ product. Therefore, many drivers solve the problem by installing an adapter that allows the use of a more modern filter element. In other words, the adapter is an adapter that takes into account the geometric dimensions of the seat on the VAZ-2114 and at the same time the dimensions of the filter that you want to install instead of the standard one.
Essentially, such an adapter for the VAZ-2114 cabin filter is a modernized housing of the ventilation system, which also provides space for the filter element itself. Structurally, the adapter consists of two parts: front and rear. The installation location of the filter is the rear part; the junction of the front and rear parts is sealed with rubber gaskets. This design allows you not to worry about water getting into the filter even during intensive car washing.
Most experts agree that, based on a number of criteria (cleaning quality, cost, service life), the best choice as an alternative to the original product is a pleated carbon cabin filter from a dozen or more. The presence of an adapter allows you not only to install another filter element, but also to significantly simplify the replacement procedure. And the installation of the adapter itself is quite simple and does not require dismantling the stove.
What is a cabin filter, its purpose and composition
A cabin filter is a filter paper material or a material made of synthetic fibers, impregnated with antibacterial compounds, designed to clean the street air entering the vehicle interior to ensure a comfortable ride for the driver and passengers.
Cabin filter
The main purpose of cabin filters is to clean the air entering the cabin from large and fine particles that cause pollution and negative well-being of the driver and passengers.
The VAZ 2114 cabin filter is located between the hood and windshield of the car in a technological niche and consists of:
- plastic frame;
- special paper and corrugated paper;
- protective casing.
How to become the owner of an adapter
The adapter allows you to seriously improve the ventilation system, so for many owners of this hatchback the question of how to become its owner is quite relevant. Let's look at all the available options:
- The good thing about buying a ready-made device on the Internet is that you get a high-quality product. This adapter is made from fairly thick metal and is powder coated. The disadvantage of this method is the high cost (delivery costs can also be considerable);
- ordering from local craftsmen will cost you much less, but the guarantee here will not be as good, and the quality will be clearly lower;
- You can make the adapter yourself - in this case you will only have to spend money on consumables, but the manufacturing itself will take a lot of time and effort. The quality of the product will depend only on you, on your skills and the availability of the appropriate tools.
Making your own adapter
If you are confident that you can make an adapter yourself, this will allow you to save a lot of money, which you can spend on purchasing a good carbon filter element. First, you need to find the adapter manufacturing diagrams on the Internet (taking into account the fact that this product is designed for installation in a VAZ-2114, since there are a great many such diagrams on the Internet for a wide variety of cars).
It is advisable to first make a paper model according to the diagram with exact dimensions - this will allow you to understand which part fits to which and in what order. To make the case you will need galvanized or stainless steel sheets. Plastic is also not bad, but processing it will require a special tool, and working with polyvinyl chloride itself is much more difficult than with metal, especially if curved surfaces and bends are required.
Since you have already cut out the parts for the layout, you should have no difficulty reading the drawing. All the required bends can be made using a large vice and a rubber (or, alternatively, a wooden) mallet. To connect metal parts, you can use either rivets or bolts. Rivets are good because they do not require drilling holes, but you need to know how to work with them - otherwise there is a risk of damaging the thin-walled metal.
Step-by-step instructions for making a cabin adapter
- So, before you start working with metal, you should make templates for parts from paper. We print out drawings of the parts of the structure and glue them together. Here's what we got:
Printed from Compass 3D V12 1:1
- After this, we take the resulting stencils, metal scissors and cut out the galvanized parts.
- Next, we bend the parts in a large vice, using a wooden mallet so as not to spoil them.
Installing the adapter together with the cabin filter
Regardless of whether you purchased a ready-made adapter or made it yourself, the installation procedure requires certain knowledge. Before installing the adapter and replacing the cabin filter on the VAZ-2114, you need to decide on the choice of filter element. Since you chose the model initially (in our case, it is a filter from a VAZ-2110), all that remains is to decide on its type (regular, carbon, reusable). Reusable ones are more expensive, but can be counted. The disposable one is cheaper and has a greater resource, and experts advise using it - we don’t need imaginary savings.
The choice between regular and coal products is also important, but here you should be guided by financial capabilities, as well as the driver’s attitude towards the perception of extraneous odors. If this problem is not relevant, then you can get by with an anti-dust filter element.
- remove the old cabin filter, following the instructions above (removing the frill, dismantling the decorative grille).
- carefully clean the seat of the cabin filter so that nothing prevents the adapter from falling into place;
- the adapter must be sealed, otherwise there will be little point in installing it (you can check this, for example, in a bathtub with water);
- those places where the adapter will come into contact with the car body must also be treated with auto sealant (conventional silicone compounds are of little use for this purpose);
- We install a rubber seal on top of the adapter to protect the hood trim from scratches;
- All that remains is to insert a new filter into the adapter seat and perform the reverse operation of assembling the entire structure.
Modern carbon filters have a fairly long service life (about 20-30 thousand kilometers), but even in this case, you need to be guided not by the recommended figures, but by the real need. Upgrading the ventilation system using an adapter can significantly improve the efficiency of air purification from dust, harmful gases, odors and even pathogens. If you are not satisfied with the quality of air filtration with a standard product, take advantage of the opportunities provided by installing a cabin filter adapter. It is not so difficult or expensive that you put your own health at risk.
I decided to make a cabin filter adapter. I printed out the drawings, found iron (iron is some kind of aluminum alloy, it bends very well). I drew the layouts on the iron and started cutting them out, this is what happened...
All parts have been successfully cut
I cut iron with scissors, nothing complicated
Bend. You just need to know which way
I bought 40 pieces of rivets
Also, a gravitex balloon was purchased, the adapter itself will be painted with it
I trimmed it a little, removed the excess sealant, and painted it
Filter space
The adapter will, of course, be slightly modified in terms of removing the excess seal and fitting the part where the elastic is put on. Regarding the installation, I will say that the bottom corners on the part where the filter fits were rounded because it did not fit into place. There were no more problems in terms of installation
Bye - something like this
The filter becomes tight, I immediately took a carbon one
This is what happened - everything is tight, the seams are sealed

Is it possible to install a filter on a VAZ-215 from another car?
Replacing the cabin filter of Lada Vesta. Practical recommendations for choosing
This question is by no means idle, since the quality of even the original SF for this model is frankly unimportant. We can please sedan owners: this option exists, and you can install any modern filter, including carbon, which can protect the interior from dust, foreign odors, and carbon dioxide
How to do this if the product you like differs significantly in size? The cabin filter adapter for the VAZ-2115 comes to the rescue - a device that is essentially an adapter between attaching the frame to the heater and the filter element itself.
If properly executed, it will provide excellent cleaning of air coming from outside with a noticeable improvement in the filter throughput (it is frankly lame in the original one). Essentially, the adapter is a slightly modernized housing of the standard ventilation system, in which an element has been added for attaching a filter of the required geometric dimensions. To ensure that the housing and mount are airtight, they are connected with the installation of rubber gaskets
In principle, you can find an adapter for sale for a large number of filters from a wide variety of brands and models of cars, but experts recommend installing an adapter for the SF from the VAZ-2110: firstly, it is relatively cheap, and secondly, it is much easier to find or make , and thirdly, the cabin filter itself has a whole range of advantages, from a budget cost to excellent performance.
If you choose the option of purchasing a finished product, you can be sure of its high quality, but many car owners prefer to make such adapters themselves, fortunately, you do not need to purchase a specialized and expensive tool for this. The fact is that purchasing a cabin filter via the Internet is associated with certain risks, and some citizens, having made an unsuccessful purchase once, no longer want to repeat the mistake.
