The efficiency of cabin protection of modern filter elements is about 95%, and this is a very good indicator. It is almost impossible to achieve absolute purification by filtration, since as the density of the filter paper increases, its ability to pass air deteriorates.

By the way, with the ventilation system turned on, in just one hour about 200 thousand liters of air pass through the VAZ-2114 cabin filter - you can imagine the load placed on it and why it is so important to maintain good throughput of the filter element. Unfortunately, over time, filtered debris inevitably clogs the pores of the paper, which becomes the reason for the need to periodically replace the cabin filter. Note that many owners of 2114 consider the original filter element to be insufficiently effective, upgrading it by installing an additional fabric layer. This certainly improves the quality of filtration, but at the same time it worsens the air flow, and this causes more harm than good.

So such experiments should be abandoned. Moreover, if you are not satisfied with the original filter, it is quite possible to purchase a non-original product. Moreover, a filter element from another brand or model may well be suitable - the main thing is that it matches in size (critically important - in width and height, the thickness may be slightly smaller or larger). Due to its low cost (around 200 rubles), most VAZ-2114 owners prefer the VF-014 product, which is not a carbon filter.

What types of cabin filters are there?

This modern modification is divided into two main types:

Conventional filters that are used to combat dust. Their main purpose is to filter the air coming from the street from dust and small debris. They are two-layer, consisting of special filter paper or synthetic fiber. The purpose of the first layer is that it provides rough cleaning, and the second for finishing cleaning. Two layers do an excellent job of removing dust, keeping it out of the cabin.
Filters with an additional third layer, which contains activated carbon. This filter is able to protect the car interior from the penetration of bacteria and hazardous substances, from unpleasant odors, and all thanks to the carbon layer.

Modern filters protect the interior by 90%, and this is an excellent result. Complete, thorough cleaning using filter elements is not possible, because if you try to increase the density of the paper, the filter will begin to pass air worse.
When the ventilation in the VAZ-2114 is turned on, it is capable of passing 180 thousand liters of air through itself; too much load falls on it, so it is necessary to maintain the throughput in good shape.

The reason for changing the cabin filter is debris that gets clogged in its layers, and this cannot be prevented in any way. VAZ owners say that the original filter is not effective, and therefore decide to install a new additional layer.

With such an upgrade, the quality of filtration improves, but the air flow becomes much worse, and you should not expect any benefit from such an upgrade.

The VF-014 product is very popular among car enthusiasts, since its cost is 250 rubles, but this filter is not a carbon filter.

When should you change the cabin filter?

According to the manufacturer, the VAZ-2114 cabin filter should be replaced once every 15 thousand kilometers. how often the vehicle is used. If you take a car only on weekends to go on vacation or shopping with your family, that’s one thing; if you drive a car every day to work, which is a fair distance from home, that’s another.

Some drivers change the filter every 5-7 thousand kilometers, others - twice a year, in early spring or late summer, before the onset of the off-season with its dirt and moisture. But most begin the procedure for installing the VAZ-2114 cabin filter as the corresponding symptoms appear: a decrease in the power of the air flow blowing from the deflectors, or the appearance of persistent unpleasant odors in the cabin, indicating that the filter is so clogged that it urgently needs to be changed.

Replacement algorithm

Let us immediately note that attempts to reuse an old product by cleaning it with a vacuum cleaner will not lead to anything good: it will not be possible to clean clogged pores in this way, and the filter element (no matter whether it is paper or synthetic) simply will not withstand washing. Before changing the cabin filter on a VAZ-2114, you need to prepare a tool: two screwdrivers (Phillips and flat-tip), a 10mm socket wrench and a car vacuum cleaner. The replacement itself, despite the non-standard placement of the filter element, is not such a complex operation that it should be performed at a service station. The sequence of actions is as follows:

open the hood;
remove the rubber seal together with the fixing fastener;
Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the screws that secure the plastic casing located in the middle part of the windshield;
use the tip of a flat screwdriver to pry off the plugs, under which the bolted fastening of the ventilation system casing is hidden;
unscrew the bolts with a wrench, remove the protective casing, disconnect the frill;
dismantle the decorative mesh covering the filter element (it is attached with self-tapping screws);
remove the old filter;
we install the new product in its regular place, having previously lubricated its edges with sealant for a tighter fit;
We assemble all the fasteners in the reverse order.

As you can see, nothing complicated. Even if you have not performed such an operation before, it is unlikely to take more than half an hour, and with some skill you can do it in 15 minutes.

Replacing the filter

If the device is completely worn out and completely clogged with dirt, then replacing the cabin filter 2114 remains the only possible solution to the problem.

It is performed as follows:

Open the hood and secure it.
Remove the rubber seal.
Unscrew the screws of the stove casing.
Remove the plastic plugs using a flat screwdriver.
Remove the stove casing and remove the mesh from it.
Remove the worn cabin filter.
Install a new filter and mount the stove casing in its place.
Coat the joints with sealant.

In some cases (for example, if the old filter is completely worn out and it is not yet possible to purchase a new one), you can replace it with a piece of foam rubber of a suitable size.

In order to extend the service life of the new filter, you should periodically (preferably at least once a month) check its condition. So, a small amount of water that gets inside it can cause the development of bacteria. Plastic is also not bad, but processing it will require a special tool, and working with polyvinyl chloride itself is much more difficult than with metal, especially if curved surfaces and bends are required.

Since you have already cut out the parts for the layout, you should have no difficulty reading the drawing. All the required bends can be made using a large vice and a rubber (or, alternatively, a wooden) mallet. To connect metal parts, you can use either rivets or bolts. Rivets are good because they do not require drilling holes, but you need to know how to work with them - otherwise there is a risk of damaging the thin-walled metal.

When assembling the adapter, it is advisable to treat all connections, holes and other similar places with sealant, which is an excellent sound insulator and will not allow vibrations to occur when driving at high speed or on uneven roads. If you have enough experience, the process of making an adapter will take you a maximum of 5-6 hours, not counting the time spent searching and studying the circuits.
