For modern lubricants, there is no concept of seasonality. If earlier oils with a lower viscosity were chosen for the winter season, and thicker ones for the summer, now they are all-season. For the VAZ 2101, the best option would be semi-synthetic all-season oil 10W40.

The advantage of this washing is that it is a gentle cleanse and does not remove useful deposits. The disadvantage is that these products are based on mineral oil, so they are not compatible with synthetics.
Engine oil change procedure: step-by-step instructions
To carry out the replacement, you need to buy 4 liters of oil and an oil filter. Tools you will need:
- a hexagon at “12” and a hollow steel tube with an internal diameter exceeding 12 mm as a lever;
- special wrench for unscrewing the oil filter;
- set of spanners;
- a container for draining waste liquid (a plastic water bottle will do);
- rags.
To make it more convenient to carry out work, the car should be driven onto an overpass, inspection hole, or use a lift. The machine must be installed horizontally. It is advisable to drive several kilometers before the procedure to warm up the engine or start the car, and let the engine warm up to operating temperature - 70-80 degrees. Heated liquid drains better.
Replacing engine oil and filter on a VAZ 2101 consists of the following steps:
- Using a “12” hexagon, unscrew the drain cap and allow the oil to drain into a container placed in advance. To make the process go faster, you need to unscrew the plug on the filler neck.
- If a decision is made to flush the power unit, after draining the waste, pour in five minutes or flushing oil.
- Start the engine, let it run according to the instructions and drain the fluid again.
- After waiting for the last drops of oil to drain, screw on the drain cap.
- Using a special wrench, unscrew the oil filter.
If the key is missing, this is done manually. If it is impossible to unscrew it by hand, take a screwdriver, pierce the body of the old filter and turn it out, using the tool as a lever.
- Before installing it on the seat, pour a little fresh oil into the filter and lubricate the sealing rubber with it.
- The seat should be cleaned with a rag to remove dirt and oil stains. The filter is tightened by hand, without pressure.
- Finally, new oil is added.
- The oil level is controlled using a dipstick. Before measuring the level, you need to wait until the liquid has completely drained. The lubricant level should not reach the maximum mark and fall below the minimum mark.
- After replacing, start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
- Then measure the oil level, check the quality of the filter and the drain cap. If there are any drips, tighten the filter or plug more tightly.
- After a few seconds, the warning light indicating the oil level should go out.

How to replace the filter and oil fluid
Changing the VAZ 2107 oil is carried out in a certain sequence of actions. It is necessary to prepare 4 liters of new lubricant, as well as a new oil filter. In addition, you should have at hand:
- container for draining waste, from 4 liters;
- rags and funnel;
- 12mm wrench with extension tube;
- filter removal device.
Before changing the engine oil, you should warm it up well, then drive onto an overpass or place the car over an inspection hole.
- The oil filler neck opens.
- An empty container is placed under the drain plug.
- The plug is unscrewed with a key and the lubricant is drained into the container.
- As soon as all the lubricant has flowed out, the container is placed under the old filter.
- The filter element is unscrewed with a special device, and the old liquid is drained from it.
- The drain plug is screwed onto the pallet, and the surface where the new part will be installed is wiped with a rag.
- The filter element is 2/3 filled with oil. It also lubricates the O-ring.
- The filled filter is screwed onto the seat by hand.
- 3.5 liters of oil mixture is poured into the oil filler neck through a funnel.
- The engine starts and the oil pressure light is checked for proper operation. After it goes out, the engine must still run for about 5 minutes, after which it turns off.
- The lubricant level is checked with a dipstick. It should be in the middle between the min and max risks. If the level is lower, add a little oil.
How to change engine oil on a VAZ 2101-VAZ 2107?
Draining: 1) First you need to remove the cap from the oil filler neck.
2) Next you will need to unscrew the drain plug.
3) Whatever pollutes the environment, place some container for drained oil.
4) After the oil has poured out of the hole, you will need to screw the plug back on.
5) Now unscrew the oil filter and remove it.
Note! You can unscrew the oil filter by hand, but if nothing comes out, use a special wrench!
Pouring:
If you are going to fill in with a different brand of oil, then you need to: 1. Drain the old oil. (We do not change the oil filter!) 2. Fill in new oil to the bottom mark on the dipstick. 3. Start the car and let it run for about 10 minutes. (You can’t move away!) 4. Turn off the car and drain the oil. 5. Replace the oil filter with a new one. 6. Now you can fill in new engine oil. (You need to fill up to the top mark on the dipstick!)
If you are not going to change the brand of oil, then you need: 1. First, pick up a new oil filter. 2. Then pour new engine oil into it, one-third of the filter volume. (A third of the volume is slightly less than half the filter.) 3. Then lubricate the filter O-ring with new engine oil. 4. Then screw the new filter into place. (Wrap it with your hands!) 5. Now you need to pour clean oil into the oil filler neck (For convenience, you can use a funnel!) 6. After pouring the oil, start the car and let it run for a few minutes. (You should not drive the car right away!) 7. While the engine is running, look to see if oil is leaking from under the drain plug or oil filter.

Leaks and problems

But if the emulsion is also observed on the dipstick, then this is already a sign of more serious problems. Most often we can talk about a broken cylinder block gasket. And in rare cases, a cracked cylinder head may be to blame.
Also, with this problem, you can find oil in the expansion tank. Sometimes, simply replacing the gasket is not enough. It may be necessary to grind the head itself, and this is completely different money for repairs.
All this is general information, which may manifest itself differently on each specific vehicle, since everyone’s operating modes are different. The same applies to places of leaks or oil leaks. Therefore, it is impossible to identify the cause from a distance.
Stages of replacing lubricant VAZ 2107

Flushing the lubrication system
Flushing the engine on a VAZ 2107 should be carried out only in exceptional cases, which include:
- Purchasing a used car when you cannot know about the quality, as well as the regularity of lubricant replacements.
- During operation, the service replacement interval was repeatedly exceeded.
- Engine operation with constant frequent overheating, which contributes to coking and other deposits.
- In cases of switching to another type, for example from synthetics to semi-synthetics.
There are several types of flushes for the VAZ 2107 engine:

The absence of aggressive additives in the wash composition gently cleans the engine, but is not able to remove heavy contaminants.
- Regular oil that you are going to use when changing. This method is not so popular due to its high price.
Replacement frequency, what oil to fill
According to the manufacturer's regulations, service changes of engine oil on the VAZ 2107 are carried out after 8,000-10,000 kilometers or at intervals of 1 year. But some car owners consider this interval to be a little too high, recommending that it be shortened taking into account operating conditions.
It is recommended to use semi-synthetic with a viscosity of 10W-40 as a lubricant. The following motor oils are most popular among model owners:
- Lada Professional 10W-40
- Lukoil Genesis Advanced 10W-40
- Shell Helix HX7 10W-40
- Total Quartz 7000 10W-40
When using this car in winter, you should select oil taking into account the climate zone, as well as the recommendations of AvtoVAZ. Viscosity 5W-40 will allow you to operate the car down to -30°C, and 0W-40 up to -35°C.

Mineral is very susceptible to oxidation, its chemical properties are unstable, and at very low temperatures such a product can freeze. It is replaced quite often. After how many thousand kilometers it needs to be changed, if the engine has a carburetor, it’s up to you to decide. Naturally, it has a very low cost.
So, take your pick based on your budget and preferences. In any case, if the car's performance bothers you, you can try a different type of oil.
Selecting a filter for VAZ 2107
Which oil filter is best for VAZ 2107? The answer to this question is not as simple as it seems. You can immediately tell that short (68.5 mm) and long (from 92 to 108 mm) devices are suitable for this car. Many motorists claim that long ones are more effective, since the area of the filter paper is larger. They may be right, but the short pieces are thicker than their counterparts (95.5mm vs. 78mm), so the area may be a moot point. Be that as it may, the short filters were created specifically for front-wheel drive models - 2108 onwards, but are also suitable for rear-wheel drive models.
If you decide to use a long filter element, then you can purchase any that is applicable to engines: B032106 - 1.6 l; B032105 – 1.3 l; B032103 – 1.5 l. Several options will be best.
In addition to these, there are several other models of shorter filter elements.
The choice of filter devices is quite large. If the size of short devices confuses you, the oil filter on the VAZ 2107 can be changed more often - for example, halfway through the mileage, between oil changes.
Product quantity
Buy motor oil only in specialized stores for car enthusiasts, otherwise you risk spending your money on a low-quality fake, which will have a very negative impact on the operation of the car’s engine. In this case, you need to know how many liters you need to use.
The VAZ 2107 engine, type injector and carburetor, holds about 4 liters (according to experienced car enthusiasts, approximately 3.75 liters). No one can say exactly how much it will be consumed by the machine, since leaks are always possible. That is why it is necessary to have a couple of liters in reserve so as not to get into an unforeseen situation.
