A fuse is a switching device designed to protect an electrical circuit from overheating.
When current flows through the fuse above the permissible values, its fuse-link burns out, thereby breaking the electrical circuit.
Rated current is the current at which the fuse is capable of operating without load.
The fuse link is the part of the fuse that blows due to exposure to greater current.
Relay - a relay is a switching device designed to relieve contacts on a button. The operating principle of this device is based on the law of electromagnetic induction.
The relay has several selection parameters. This is the current at which the contacts will not melt and heat up; it is called the rated current of the relay, as well as the number of contacts.
Location of fuses in VAZ 2114
In the VAZ 2114 car there are two fuse blocks, main and additional, each of them is located in different places.
Main fuse box
In a VAZ 2114 car, the main fuse assembly block is located in the engine compartment, covered with a plastic casing. To gain access to the unit, you need to remove the cover by bending the fixing fasteners.
The block is a collection of various relays and fuses that are responsible for specific functions on the car.
Additional fuse block
The additional block is located under the car panel in its central part. Easier and faster access to this unit can be obtained from the passenger side, where the foot air duct is located.
It should also be noted that the VAZ 2114 was equipped with two types of different units depending on the year of manufacture.
Below are diagrams and descriptions of fuses and relays for each of the blocks.
General recommendations
If you use your car all the time, download and print out the fuse diagram for your brand of car and keep this diagram in the glove compartment.
In some cars (almost all Korean and Japanese) there is a decoding of the fuses on the cover of the fuse box. In German and French cars, the list of fuses may be in a foreign language that you do not know. In this case, translate and print out such a transcript in advance, which can help you out.
Look at what types of fuses are installed in your car. Buy the appropriate sets of fuses, you will probably need them someday.
Check for plastic tweezers in the fuse boxes. If it is not there, complete the car's repair kit. Special medical clamps are very suitable for this purpose.

Mounting block design
Electrical devices that control the electrical circuits of the VAZ 2114 consist of:
- A printed circuit board on which all the main components are mounted;
- Relay for connecting main electrical circuits;
- Devices that provide protection for electrical circuits;
- Connectors with which the mounting block is connected to the components of the electrical circuit.
Complete block diagram
It is worth saying that this scheme is used not only in VAZ cars, but also in the most modern foreign cars. This situation has arisen because the principle of connection and protection has remained virtually unchanged in recent years.
Main components
The circuits use modern plastic boards for mounting on connectors. Working with plastic is simpler than working with fiberglass boards, which were used in older car devices. The fact is that almost anyone can install a relay or fuse without being armed with a soldering iron.
Another important part of this device is the fuses. Previously they were glass with a fusible insert. The VAZ 2114 is equipped with modern blade-type fuses, which are convenient and highly reliable. They consist of a plastic housing containing a fusible safety element. To connect to the board, knife-shaped flat metal contacts are used.
Removing the mounting block from the vehicle
The VAZ 2114 car relay consists of two main components:
- An electromagnetic key for turning on/off the components of the electrical circuit of a car, which is a regular relay. It closes and opens contacts after the control current has been applied/removed.
- Special keys for closing electrical circuits. They are designed to automatically periodically turn on/off certain elements of the system.
The standard relay is responsible for turning on the headlights, power windows, heating and other components that are turned on and off forcibly. Using a special electronic device - a key - the operation of windshield wipers, turn signals, alarms and other components is ensured.
The VAZ 2114 mounting block includes one more part - an original tweezers-clamp, which makes the process of removing/installing the fuse more convenient.
Difference in fuses by color
There are different numbers of fuses. They differ not only in rated current, but also in color. Each fuse rating has its own color.
