Fuses and relays of the mounting block 17.3722 VAZ 2108, 2109, 21099

To ensure maintenance and repair of the electrical equipment of a VAZ car, a special approach was taken to the layout of each of the components of the overall system. That is, all relays and fuses were placed in one compact housing of the mounting block. The use of switching interconnected circuits of various electrical equipment systems makes it possible to avoid installing a large number of relays throughout the machine body and simplifies the process of repairing parts to replace them. To find faulty elements, you do not need to disassemble the entire car - you just need to replace the device itself, which is connected to the circuit using standardized connectors. Diagnostic connectors help us with this. Below are the electrical circuit diagrams of the MB for a VAZ car.

Replacement of an old-style mounting block (MB) with a new VAZ 2108

Problem : I stopped installing the old VAZ 2108 fuse mounting block, in which every now and then you have to move the fuses to make contact.

Old

Task: replace the old-style VAZ 2108 mounting block with a new one

I bought a new block 173-3722-01M, transitional, like this in front

1 Headlight wiper relay (K6) 2 Rear window washer timing relay (K1) 3 Turn signal and hazard warning light relay (K2) 4 Windshield wiper relay (K3) 5 Contact jumpers in place of the lamp health monitoring relay 6 Rear window heating relay (K10) 7 Spare fuse 8 Relay for turning on the high beam headlights (K5) 9 Relay for turning on the low beam headlights (K11) 10 Fuse 11 Relay for turning on the electric motor of the engine cooling system fan (K9) 12 Relay for turning on the sound signal (K8)

and this one from behind

Conventional numbering of plugs in the mounting block blocks for connecting wires

Ш1-Ш4 - blocks connecting to the instrument panel wiring harness; Ш5 and Ш6 — blocks for connecting the front wiring harness; Ш7 and Ш8 — blocks for connecting the wiring harness of the left mudguard; Ш9 - block connecting to the rear wiring harness;

3) I took off the old one. ATTENTION ! Don't pull the wires; you'll break them somewhere, and then you'll have to replace all the wiring.

4) installed a new one, beautiful, comfortable, I was afraid that the electric fan wouldn’t turn on, but everything is ok! except: NO BATTERY CHARGING, charging does not occur until you step on the gas.

5) Returned the old one to its place - THERE IS CHARGING!

Let's look at the diagram of the mounting block 173.3722-01M

6) Brainstorming results: I disassembled the old and new blocks to identify the cause. It turned out that two resistors were missing. The resistors were present in the old mounting blocks, and this is not a fact, since some had them installed on the back of the dashboard; the new mounting block has seats for them (2 pcs. 100 Ohm 2 W each) you need to solder the current.

Front view

Back view

We do everything according to the instructions, coat the cracks at the joints of the plastic with sealant to protect the board, and put it back together.

Also in the new block they are very flimsy:

K2 – relay-interrupter for direction indicators and hazard warning lights; K3 – windshield wiper relay;

I recommend throwing them out immediately and buying new ones so that you don’t have problems with them later on the road. WARNING Do not replace fuses with jumpers or fuses rated for different amperages. This may damage electrical appliances.

USEFUL ADVICE Relays of type 111.3734, installed in the mounting block, often fail due to burnt contacts. Remove the relay, remove the protective cover from the relay and clean the contacts with fine sandpaper.

Pinout of mounting block 2109

The VAZ 2109 mounting block is designed to combine wiring harnesses, as well as to accommodate relays and fuses. The first models used a mounting block type 17.3722. It consists of a housing consisting of two parts and a printed circuit board on which leads are soldered for connection to the wiring harness blocks, installation of relays and fuses.

On cars with an injection engine, mounting blocks similar to 2114-3722010-60 are used, but they have a different connection for the radiator cooling fan.

Battery and generator breakdowns

Generator on car

If the battery or generator malfunctions, first of all, check the integrity of the fuses responsible for their operation in the mounting block.

If the generator on a VAZ 21099 does not charge, this may be due to the following reasons.

  1. Bearing failure. This problem is indicated by extraneous noise during generator operation. Fixing the problem is quite simple. You need to remove the generator, disassemble it, change the bearing, reassemble it and put it back in place.
  2. A broken belt connecting the generator to the engine. Using the car for a long time causes the belt to wear out, and it may eventually break. You can replace the belt almost in the field, and it does not take much time.
  3. Reducing the voltage at the “output”. The owner of the VAZ 21099 should be notified of this malfunction by a lit lamp on the dashboard. The cause may be worn brushes or poor contact between the winding and the rotor. Fixing the problem depends on what caused it.
  4. Increase in voltage at the “output”. For this reason, as a rule, fuses burn out. And the reason for this is the failure of the diode bridge of the generator.

VAZ 21099 owners often encounter this problem: the generator does not charge the battery. This usually involves the wiring system running from the alternator to the battery.

If the generator does not charge, a special multimeter is needed to identify the problem. This device measures voltage. If the battery is charging, then numbers from 13.4 to 14.6 appear on the device. If the generator does not provide it, then the voltage on the multimeter will be exactly 12 V.

There are several ways to eliminate the problem of lack of charge in the battery from the generator.

  1. Belt tension. Do not allow excessive sagging of the belt. If the belt cannot be tensioned as needed, you should simply replace it with a new one.
  2. When the brushes are worn out, they are replaced.
  3. If the cause is the fuse, it should be replaced in the mounting block. The fuse number F10 is responsible for the generator.

If the cause of all malfunctions of the generator, battery and other parts of the electrical circuit are blown fuses in the mounting block, they need to be replaced with new ones.

To do this, open the cover of the unit, use special tweezers to remove the blown fuses from their cells, and install working fuses in their place. You should take into account the voltage of each fuse and replace the parts with exactly the same ones. They usually come in different colors and have voltages from 1 to 100 A, but the main fuses are 5-30 A.

To identify a blown fuse, you simply need to hold it up to the light. A burnt-out jumper will be visible through the transparent case.
