Thanks to all the listed functions, Starline A63 is one of the leaders in the domestic car alarm market.

Weaknesses and strengths

The Starline A63 anti-theft telematics system has a number of advantages that set it apart from its competitors:

  • the “dialogue” signal protection and encryption system does not allow code grabbers to intercept it;
  • the versatility of the system, thanks to which it is able to work with cars of almost all models, including the newest ones;
  • the presence of a digital CAN LIN interface, thanks to which the installation and programming process is significantly accelerated;
  • the presence of remote control service channels, thanks to which all modules of the complex are configured without the use of external elements;
  • reduced number of false alarms thanks to modern technologies that minimize the excessive sensitivity of alarm sensors and disruptions in their operation.

As for the disadvantages of the security system, these include excessive sensitivity to configuration or installation errors of the complex. It is because of the latter that most of the malfunctions that car owners have to deal with occur. Another drawback is the limitations of the key fobs due to the low range.

Specifications

Technical characteristics of the A63 Eco complex:

  • frequency interval of control signals - 433.05-434.79 MHz;
  • number of channels - 128;
  • communicator signal reception radius - up to 2000 m;
  • command transmission distance - up to 900 m;
  • current consumption (when installing a GSM communication module) - no more than 25 mA.

Degree of protection

The Starline A63 complex is equipped with a microprocessor unit that supports an interactive encoding algorithm with a 128-bit AES cipher, which cannot be intercepted or further processed. To increase the degree of security, a digital relay with a radio channel R2 or R3 is used, which is installed in the standard wiring harnesses. Since the blocking element has no physical connection with the head unit, it is impossible to visually detect the location of the circuit break.

Differences between StarLine A63 and A63 Eco

There are two modifications of the Starline A63 alarm system on the market - the regular version and Eco. The latter has the following characteristics:

  • two-way type of communication with key fobs;
  • "dialog" system encoding for message encryption;
  • CAN interface, connected optionally;
  • The GSM module is also optionally included;
  • remote engine start, as in other models of the family;
  • the presence of a single control panel - if necessary, additional ones can be purchased;
  • inability to control the anti-theft system using the standard key.

Starline A63 Eco is distinguished by the presence of a built-in 3D controller, which allows you to control any external influence on the vehicle, including the risk of theft. The built-in engine blocker gives the car owner the remote ability to effectively limit the actions of the thief. And reliable communication encryption provides protection from code grabbers.

The most noticeable difference between the standard A63 and the Eco modification is the absence of an additional key fob without a display in the latter’s configuration. As noted above, the car owner can compensate for this by purchasing the remote control themselves. The alarm system supports recording several key fobs into the memory.

The A63 alarm system was recommended by friends, and I am very grateful to them. For little money I purchased reliable and convenient protection for my Lanos. Of course, there are not many functions, but if desired, everything can be connected. This is very convenient, since I don’t need some options, for example Kan-shin. But I'm going to install GPS. I got the A63 along with the car. I'm not very happy with my job. The reception radius is small and the batteries have to be changed very often. I don't like that there is no auto start. They say you can install it additionally, but for that kind of money you can buy an alarm system with auto start and not have to worry about it.
After my car was robbed, I thought about installing a good alarm system. I immediately wanted to install the Starline A93, but I don’t need autostart (the car is in a warm garage), so I opted for the A63. I am completely satisfied with the work, the signal does not lose even in a large parking lot, it responds immediately, there are no glitches. The keychain is very convenient, but I would buy a cover for it, it looks too fragile. The presence of a large number of connected features is, of course, pleasing, but the constant glitches because of this are not very good. Additional connection modules are more expensive individually. In my opinion, it is better to select all the necessary functions at once; there will be fewer malfunctions and it will be cheaper.
I liked the price, technical characteristics and ease of installation. The instructions are really detailed. What is not clear, I found on the Internet. Many people use this alarm, so it wasn’t difficult to find information. There were problems with the installation. I installed the previous two alarms myself, everything was fine. But I struggled with this one for two days and still half of the functions don’t work. The instructions do not correspond to reality at all, I had to download everything on the Internet and guess for myself. Briefly speaking. I don't take Starline anymore!
It is difficult to find a better alarm system with feedback and dialogue protection at this price. Everything is clearly written on the key fob; if the alarm goes off, it shows which circuit is affected. There were practically no false positives. I've been using it for about 1.5 years now. I was disappointed in this alarm and in general the products and service of the Starline company. I bought the A63 Slave model, it is not very expensive. For some reason, installation at an official service center was more expensive than agreed upon. In addition, they forced me to buy some kind of Master, the functions of which no one could clearly explain, they only said that they couldn’t do without it. It turned out that this Master connects the alarm with the phone. The range is very small, literally 100 meters. If it were not for control from the phone, such a signal would not be needed at all.
For inexpensive cars, like my Six, the A63 alarm system is perfect. Installed the ECO version. It is practically no different, only there is no second key fob. It is really very economical and consumes almost no energy. In principle, the alarm system is normal, but the functionality is very limited. No auto-start, no control from your phone. Everything must be purchased separately (and it is expensive). I would say that it is not worth it, it is better to take it already in a normal configuration.
I live in a big city, where cars are stolen very often, so I thought about the safety of my Peugeot. I read a lot on the Internet about the merits of this or that alarm system and decided to install the starline a63 system. I liked the price/functionality ratio. To begin with, I equipped the signaling system with auto start and engine blocking, for which I purchased a special cunning sensor. Even if the security is turned off, this relay will still not allow the engine to work, and it is impossible to figure out where it is located, since there are no wires. I regret that I didn’t install a GSM beacon right away; I would have liked to control it from my phone. When ordering, it was said that the difference between the regular A63 and Eco is only in the absence of a second key fob. It turned out that the kit did not include a siren. Shock and tilt sensors too (later they turned out to be built into the central block). The alarm system also had to be equipped with central locks and a bunch of other fasteners were needed. In short, this is not saving at all, but a scam of simple, gullible people.

Functions of the StarLine A63 key fob

The standard version of the car alarm includes two key fobs - a main one and an auxiliary one. They differ from each other in both functionality and range.

The body of the main keychain is made of impact-resistant plastic. Thanks to the liquid crystal display, two-way communication is possible using the Dialogue encryption system, which is superior to the previous Twage, and simplified system setup. Some of the functions of the latter can only be configured using this gadget. In addition to the screen, it has four buttons located on the side.

Thanks to the buttons of the main remote control, the following occurs:

  • turning on and off the security mode using the “dialog” encryption system;
  • setting the current time;
  • turning on and off the winding mode by alarm;
  • setting the alarm time;
  • activation and deactivation of a car park using a timer;
  • setting timer indicators;
  • adjusting the volume level of siren and key fob alarms;
  • activation and deactivation of silent mode;
  • selection of siren signal type;
  • activation of the motor based on temperature indicators;
  • management of GPS, GSM modules and shock sensors;
  • Slave function.

The additional control panel is not equipped with an LCD display, which does not allow, for example, setting up autorun by timer, alarm clock or temperature. At the same time, it is equipped with feedback in the form of special sound signals. General control of the system occurs using three buttons located on the front panel. These buttons make it possible to unlock and lock the doors or trunk, arm and disarm.

Characteristics and description of the alarm

The Starline A63 car alarm is a complete security and telematics complex for reliable vehicle protection from theft and unauthorized access. Having an intelligent autostart that cannot be scanned by a dialog control code, the Starline A63 car alarm allows the car owner to start the engine at a given time and even temperature, which greatly simplifies the use of the car.

Starline A63 is designed on a fundamentally new 4th generation platform, and differs from its predecessors in the presence of light signals and power relays for controlling the central locking. In addition, the functionality of the car alarm has been significantly expanded, since its main module was supplemented by such modules as: LIN, 2 CAN, GPS and GSM. This significantly expanded the capabilities of Starline A63 in terms of vehicle monitoring and protection.

Specifications

The technical characteristics of the Starline A63 alarm are as follows:

  1. The maximum range of the key fob for controlling Starline A63 is up to 800 m;
  2. The maximum distance of the key fob in the notification mode is up to 2000 m;
  3. Number of radio channels for control 128;
  4. Radio carrier frequencies from 433 to 434 MHz;
  5. The operating distance of the additional alarm key fob is up to 15 m.

Alarm button location

As noted above, the key fobs of the anti-theft complex have a different number of buttons, located in different places due to the design features of each. So, the main remote control has a display, which is why four keys are placed on the side panel. At the same time, three buttons for the additional communicator are located on the front, which is clearly visible in the photo.

Buttons and their combinations on the main remote control are used not only to issue direct commands, but also to select the desired functions among the icons on the screen. In addition to key fobs, the “Valet” service key, located in the car interior, is used.

StarLine service mode management

When the service position is activated on the Starline A39, A63, A9, A96 or E90 alarm, some functions become unavailable to the owner. For example, in this position you can unlock or lock the doors, open/close the trunk, and activate the window closer. At the same time , recording new key fobs, changing autostart parameters or an individual unlock code is impossible.

Enabling Starline service mode

To transfer a car, for example, a Nissan Terrano, to a diagnostic service, you will need to temporarily disable the security functions. The owner of the car must enable the service mode and transfer the car to the appropriate state. To do this, you need to disable the security mode - transferring to the service position is impossible without this.

Switching on is carried out as follows: you need to set the cursor icon on the key fob to the wrench symbol, and then briefly press the third key on the remote control. After this, the car will emit one light signal, and the key fob will play a melody. A wrench icon will appear on the display. For Starline i96Can, I95, A92, A94 or A95 systems, the functions of remote control of door locks will continue to work, but the shock and tilt sensors, as well as other security options, will be disabled.

Installation of alarm system Starline A63

The anti-theft system is quite universal and the procedure for installing it is not very different for different cars of any model year - be it the old Chevrolet Niva, VAZ Lada Vesta or the new Great Wall Safe and Renault 2021.

  • Installation begins by turning off the vehicle battery. The ignition is also turned off and any energy consumers are disconnected.
  • The process begins with the installation of the main module with a microprocessor, which is installed so that only the car owner has free access to it. Typically, such a reliable location is considered to be plastic trim - the unit is placed behind the dashboard, audio system or storage compartment. Connect the device so that there are no other electronic devices near it that could cause interference, sources of high humidity or overheating. Fix the module with self-tapping screws or plastic clamps quite firmly.
  • The siren is placed under the hood of the car, but so that it is located at a distance from the cylinder block and exhaust manifold, which can overheat the device and damage it. Place the alarm with the horn to the side or down, which will prevent moisture from accumulating inside. It is important to place the alarm so that a potential criminal cannot notice it, and so that he does not have access to the wires.
  • The signal receiving and transmitting device together with the antenna is installed on the rear or windshield. The strength of the transmitted signal greatly depends on the height of its position. Before installation, the glass surface is cleaned of dirt and degreased. And they fix the module on it using glue or double-sided tape - the first option is considered more reliable and more aesthetically pleasing, so it is used more often. To avoid interference, the antenna is placed so that the distance between it and electronic devices or metal parts is at least five centimeters.
  • Tilt and shock sensors, both included and optional, are installed in the center of the cabin. Typically, a partition is used for fixation, which separates the engine compartment. The sensors are mounted as tightly as possible so that they are minimally affected by vibrations, leading to false alarms.
  • To automatically start the engine based on temperature, a sensor is placed under the hood of the vehicle. It is cut into the pipe through which the cooling liquid circulates. But, at the same time, high-quality fixation plays an important role, which should protect the device from being washed away by antifreeze.
  • The blocking relay is mounted at a distance close to the ignition switch, but so that it is invisible to outsiders. The relay does not require any wiring, making it easy to place correctly.
  • The Valet service button is installed so that it has maximum free access, but at the same time it remains invisible. Place it close to the driver's seat for a quick emergency press. Mask the key with black electrical tape.
  • Limit switches are located on the hood so that they are not accessible if the engine compartment is closed.
  • The installation is completed by laying the electrical wiring. Its correct routing presupposes the impossibility of finding wires near moving components, such as the steering wheel or pedals, as well as potential sources of radio interference (ignition coils, high-voltage wires of the car, and other electrical appliances). Place the bundles under the interior trim and, if additional protection from moisture or other adverse factors is necessary, wrap them with electrical tape.

After the wires are connected, the key fobs are linked and the Starline A63 system is configured. It is the same for all car models, including such as UAZ Patriot and Renault Sandero.

Installation and connection

The installation instructions included with Starline A63 ECO contain installation recommendations:

  1. Disconnect the vehicle's on-board power supply and then place the processor unit inside the cabin. The small dimensions of the device allow the unit to be mounted in the center console or inside the voids of the dashboard.
  2. Place a siren in the engine compartment, providing protection from overheating and moisture in advance. It is recommended to locate the device at a point inaccessible from underneath the vehicle.
  3. Then you should wipe the Starline A63 antenna unit with a degreasing compound; installation is performed on a previously cleaned windshield using 2-sided tape. Shock and tilt sensors are located inside the unit; it is not recommended to mount the device on a moving base.
  4. Install a control LED on the instrument panel, the temperature sensor is mounted on the engine.
  5. Connect the components in accordance with the diagram given in the instructions. Patch cords are equipped with plugs that differ in configuration; it is impossible to mix up the mounting blocks. Step by step connect the harnesses to the standard vehicle wiring; the connection diagram depends on the configuration of the complex and the design of the car.

How to attach a Starline A63 keychain

This is a mandatory preliminary procedure that is performed before setting up the alarm. Writing them to the device memory occurs as follows:

  • disable the protective mode if it was enabled;
  • press the Valet service button 7 times and wait until the sound alarm sounds the same number of times;
  • On the main control panel, press the first and second keys simultaneously and wait for a melodic sound.

As a result, the communicator is linked to the system. The procedure is repeated for each device. When the registration is completed, the ignition is turned off and the car is armed.

How to disable service mode

In order to disable the service mode on the StarLine a91 alarm system, you should:

To exit the service mode of the Starline a92 security system, in the cursor control option on the LCD monitor of the communicator, press key 4, select the key icon, and briefly press button 2. This action will remove the backlighting of the icon and disable the option.

In the Starline i93 immobilizer, the Valet option is disabled according to the following algorithm:

Disabling the “Valet” option in the Starline A96 security and telematics complex can be done in several ways:

Setting up the key fob

Use the Valet service mode button, which is pressed seven times when the car’s ignition is turned on. The correctness of each action will be confirmed by light and sound signals. To exit the settings mode, turn off the ignition.

Setting the time on the StarLine A63 key fob

First of all, hold down the fourth button until a long melodic signal sounds, followed by two short ones. As soon as the time display flashes, you need to use the arrow keys to set the current hour. The second button increases it, and the third button decreases it.

To go to adjusting the minutes, briefly press the fourth key again and set the desired indicator according to the scheme described above. The volume of the siren is adjusted in a similar way.

How to turn on the turbo timer

Used for turbocharged vehicles. It allows the engine to continue running even after the ignition is turned off for a set period of time. To configure it, you need to place the cursor on the icon with the inscription “TURBO” and press the first button. After the signal sounds, you can briefly press key 1 to select the engine operating time - each press is equal to an additional minute. The same button is pressed until the sound signal to save the settings.

It turns on when the parking brake is on by pressing the second button on the key fob.

Setting up the shock sensor

It can be turned on when the security mode is running and the ignition is off, if you press the first button twice on the main remote control or the second and first button on the additional remote control.

Sensitivity adjustment is made when the security mode is turned off, by successively pressing the third key twice. The desired level is set by pressing buttons numbered 2 and 3.

Door lock

To remotely lock the door with the ignition on, press button number one on the key fob. The locks will close and the corresponding indication will appear on the screen. A short beep will also sound.

Autostart module

The anti-theft system in question has a car factory function. Before you automatically start the engine of any car, be it a Niva or a Lada Granta, using the Starline A63, you need to make sure that the handbrake lever is raised, the program neutral is set and the hood and doors are locked.

To turn on the autorun unit, you need to press the first button on the remote control and hold it until a melodic sound signal appears. As a sign of successful completion of the task, the necessary indicators will appear on the display. To turn off the motor, use buttons 1 and 4 - the first is pressed until a sound appears, and the last is acted on briefly. In order for the car plant to work correctly, it is important to follow the system connection diagram.

Remote start

The new signaling complex allows you to control the engine remotely not only using remote controls, but also using a smartphone. To do this, you just need to install the official application on the latter and connect it with the GSM module. Control from a mobile phone will allow you to solve critical security tasks without having to remember a large number of button combinations.

How to open the trunk using the StarLine A63 key fob

The procedure occurs through the first additional channel. To activate it, hold down the second key until a beep sounds, and then briefly press the first. In addition to the light and sound signals of the car, the screen will show an indication of an open trunk. In models such as the Lada Granta, shock sensors are also turned off.

How to change your password

Programming of personal codes occurs using the service key. After entering the settings mode, press Valet nine times and wait for the desired signal. After this, a code consisting of one, two or three digits is set using the key fob.

How to enable hands-free

Unfortunately, the Starline A63 system is not equipped with the “Hands Free” function, which turns the security mode on and off when the car owner approaches or moves away, respectively.

Factory reset

For Starline A63, the process occurs in the same way as for other models of the manufacturer - through the Valet service button. With the ignition off, press it ten times, after which you wait for the same number of short siren signals. Press Valet again and turn on the ignition. The settings are returned to factory defaults if a beep sounds.

The main key fob with a shock-resistant case is equipped with an LCD display, vibration alert and two-way communication. At the end there are four rubberized control buttons. They are conventionally numbered with a report from the main red button. The key fob antenna is fully integrated into the body and does not protrude outward. The battery compartment cover has a lock against accidental opening. One AA battery is installed in the compartment.

The Starline A63 car alarm is also equipped with an additional simplified key fob without a display. The device is powered by a CR-2450 coin cell battery.

All Starline A63 security alarm sensors are personalized. In the event of an alarm, the sensor that was triggered is graphically displayed on the key fob display. The functionality of the key fob is configured according to the operating instructions.

User manual

StarLine A63, like most modern alarms, has a large number of useful functions that require step-by-step fine tuning. The service capabilities of the complex are so extensive that it would be impossible to open a window with their help. In order not to get confused in them, it is recommended to regularly check the user manual, which can be read in Russian and in pdf format with vertical orientation.

Degree of protection

Like all modern StarLine alarms, the A63 model uses a dialogue code with 128-bit AES encryption. This means that using modern means it is impossible to hack the alarm with a code grabber, and with proper installation, even a basic kit with a single blocking relay can be highly resistant to theft.

The alarm system supports operation with the StarLine R3 wireless radio locking relay - this is the main recommendation for increasing the degree of vehicle protection. Such a relay does not have a physical connection with the central unit, so it is difficult to detect it by the wires coming from the unit, and if the central unit or its radio module is physically disconnected, it continues to block startup.

Basic malfunctions and methods for their elimination

Like any technical device, the A63 alarm system can fail. There can be many reasons for breakdowns, but among them are the most common. Most often, the gadget does not work or does not work correctly due to the fact that it is incorrectly installed or configured. To troubleshoot the problem yourself, you need to remount it, strictly following the instructions.

From time to time the alarm does not respond due to power problems or contact failure. These problems can be solved by replacing the batteries or checking the wiring. The wiring also suffers from high humidity, to protect it from which it is additionally insulated. One of the main signs of this breakdown is when the LED light often goes out.

The appearance of error 51a on the key fob indicates that the Slave mode was accidentally turned on. To get rid of it, turn off this mode, which you can do either with your own hands or at a service center. The latter option is desirable if one of the key fobs operates in tag mode.

In cases where the system requires complex repairs, including the need for disassembly, it is recommended that this be done at a car service center.

A63 equipment

The standard Starline A63 set includes only a central unit, a transceiver module, a locking relay, two key fobs, instructions and an installation kit (screws, clamps, hood button). Siren is purchased separately.

Expansion of functionality is possible with the following modules:

  1. The autostart module (standard for alarm systems of this generation) is connected via a cable to the central unit. Its settings adapt the autostart system to cars with a traditional ignition key, with a start-stop button, and so on. However, due to the fact that both the hardware and software of the A63/A93 family of alarms have been repeatedly upgraded, the manufacturer guarantees autostart operation only on A63 alarms that have a serial number starting with the characters AX3. Otherwise, the unit may not support working with the module both software and hardware (a number of elements on the board are missing).
  2. The StarLine GSM-Master module is required to implement telematics capabilities (alarm notification via mobile phone, alarm control via a mobile application and SMS commands). At the same time, the vehicle’s coordinates are determined only from LBS 9 base stations of the cellular network), therefore it gives satisfactory accuracy only in cities densely saturated with cell towers.
  3. The StarLine 2CAN-2LIN Master module is a universal expansion board for integrating alarm systems with digital buses of domestic and foreign cars.
  4. StarLine GPS-GLONASS-Master is necessary to increase the accuracy of tracking vehicle coordinates.

When installing the 2CAN-2LIN module, the car owner will receive expanded functionality - indirect engine start blocking without physical relays, owner authorization using a PIN code entered from the car's standard buttons, SUPER SLAVE mode, when the alarm is controlled from a standard radio key without weakening the degree of protection of the car.
