UAZ Patriot fuel filter: where is it located, replacement

1. Removed the battery terminal.2. I removed the fuel pump relay from the fuse box under the hood.3. I put on the terminal and started it. Relieved the pressure in the fuel rail.4. I unhooked the pipe latches from the fuel filter. 30-40 grams leaked out.5. I filled the clamp bolt with UPS-40 (liquid key). Unscrewed it.

6. Inserted a new filter (steel housing). Tightened the clamp. He snapped the tubes.

On the filter housing, follow the direction of installation - arrow(!). Well, or a rolled part for the internal combustion engine.

The relay is in place, I put the terminal on... The key is to start. We are waiting for fuel pumping. Let's start it up. Check to see if there are any leaks from the filter. Everything is fine... Now until the morning/evening and check how much the replacement helped.

The fine fuel filter on UAZ Hunter and UAZ Patriot vehicles with a ZMZ-409 engine is designed to clean the fuel supplied to the injectors from the smallest mechanical impurities and water.

The fuel filter for injection systems must capture particles up to 10 microns in size. Supplying injectors with insufficiently purified fuel will eventually lead to their clogging, resulting in poor fuel atomization, and then to injector failure.

In addition, the housing of the fine fuel filter for injection engines must withstand, with a safety margin, the high pressure that occurs in the fuel supply system during engine operation.

Removing the UAZ Patriot fuel pump

To replace, we will need: a screwdriver, pliers, a 10mm wrench, a 17mm wrench and socket and, of course, the pump itself on the website https://www.bensonasos.ru/. Most often, the cause of a fuel pump malfunction is clogging and damage to the filter, so it is much more economical to change the filter itself. In any case, you first need to get to the fuel pump and find out the cause of the breakdown.

Here is the fuel pump itself; before disconnecting the hoses, stock up on a large amount of rags. Since the gasoline in the hoses is under pressure, when disconnected, some of it will definitely leak out. Having disconnected the hoses, we pull out the fuel pump system and determine the problem.

As mentioned above, most often we can see that the fuel pre-filter is very clogged and damaged. This happens due to the use of low-quality gasoline. To replace the filter, you simply need to tear it off and put on a new one.

If you still need to change the fuel pump motor itself, then you need to unhook the three fastening latches, the wiring connector and the level sensor. Now you can replace the motor itself. After replacing all the necessary parts or after installing a new fuel pump, we assemble everything in the reverse order.

A special role in the operation of internal combustion engines is given to an element called a fuel pump. Today we will look at what a fuel pump is on a UAZ Patriot SUV, why it is needed, when it requires repair, and also what the process of replacing it is.

Necessity of application

The gas pump performs the function of supplying fuel from the gas tank to the vehicle engine, which is why this unit is also called a fuel pump. The UAZ Patriot SUV is equipped with a fuel pump, which operates via an electric motor powered by a 12-volt network.

Subaru stinger exhaust sound

The main feature of UAZ Patriot Euro-3 SUVs is the presence of two gas tanks. The fuel module of the UAZ Patriot car consists of the following elements:

  • electric pump;
  • jet pump;
  • pressure regulator.

The fuel pump is located directly on the right tank. From the left tank, fuel is pumped into the right one under the influence of a jet pump.

Thus, the electric fuel pump on UAZ Patriot SUVs of the Euro-3 environmental standard has a submersible pump located directly in the tank.

Below is a diagram showing the fuel system of the UAZ Patriot Euro-3 from 2008 to 2011.

This is what the fuel module on a UAZ Patriot Euro-3 looks like disassembled.

The diagram shows the location of the jet pump that pumps fuel from the left tank, as well as the electric fuel pump, which supplies fuel from the tank to the engine. Let's consider the principle of operation of such a system on a UAZ Patriot Euro-3 SUV.

Mechanism of operation

When the engine is running, the pump forces fuel between the right tank and the ramp. Fuel is taken only from the right tank, and it is pumped from the left.

The fuel line from the tank to the engine is equipped with a special tee, the main function of which is to return fuel under pressure that does not enter the ramp back into the tank. In addition, the fuel line is equipped with a fine filter, which is located on the ramp and performs the function of cleaning the fuel from large particles.

When the liquid passing at high speed returns back to the tank, it causes a sharp drop in pressure in the second tube, which leads to the process of gravity flow of fuel from the left to the right tank. Thus, the system operates until the left side has fuel and the right side is filled with it.

This is how the fuel system functions on a UAZ Patriot Euro-3 SUV with two tanks. By the way, the Patriot Euro-2 fuel system has a similar principle of operation.

Malfunctions

If fuel does not flow from the gas tank to the mixture injection system into the cylinders, the car will not be able to start. The most common causes of electric fuel pump failure are short circuits caused by the positive wire being shorted to ground.

But in this case, it is not the fuel pump itself that will fail first, but the fuse installed in the control circuit. Fixing such a malfunction is not difficult - you just need to replace the fuse located in the mounting block under the hood on the left wing.

But before replacing the fuse with a new one, it is necessary to find the location of the short circuit, otherwise the new fuse element will also fail.

Windshield washer nozzles

Also, the lack of functioning of the fuel pump may be caused by a faulty relay. To fix this problem, you need to remove the fuel pump relay and install the fan relay in its place. The relays are also located in the mounting block under the hood. In this case, it is necessary to turn on the ignition; if the pump begins to pump, then the faulty relay should be replaced.

    UAZ Patriot fuel system: replacement of main components

    Design features of the system

    While the engine is running, the fuel pump operates and creates constant pressure between the right tank and the fuel rail. In this case, excess fuel is cut off with a special tee installed after the fine filter.

    They are discharged under pressure into the right tank, and pass through a special jet pump nozzle. The high speed and thin diameter of the inner pump tube create low pressure in the outer ring.

    The result is a vacuum, due to which fuel is pumped from the left tank to the right.

    The system is completely autonomous and operates only due to pressure difference. If the left tank runs out of fuel or the right tank is full, the supply stops automatically.

    For greater convenience, most components are duplicated. So, each gas tank has its own fuel level sensor, and the body also has 2 filler necks on each side.

    The most common problems:

    • Fuel filter dirty;
    • Depressurization of the system;
    • The appearance of sediment in the gas tank;
    • Highway contamination;
    • The fuel pump is failing.

    Fuel filter UAZ Patriot

    Replacing the element is necessary if a loss of traction is felt and the car begins to move jerkily. But at the same time, the on-board computer will not generate errors.

    To change the element, you first need to disconnect it from the fuel line. Before this, it is necessary to remove the pressure in the system. You need to start the engine and pull out the fuel pump relay.

    Now we wait for the engine to stall itself and get to work. The filter is located under the bottom of the car and is secured with two 10mm bolts. The hoses are held in place with special quick releases.

    Installing a new one occurs strictly in the reverse order.

    Replacing the fuel pump

    Before starting work, the right seat is removed. To do this, use a 17 key to unscrew 4 bolts. After this, unscrew the cover on the bottom to gain access to the pump and fuel pipes. It is necessary to remove them and the power supply.

    We unscrew the 10 nuts around the circumference of the pump, after which it can be removed from the seat. You need to pull out the part carefully so as not to tear off the float. It is best to tilt the bulb towards the rear of the car.

    One of the problems when removing a part can be the corrugated hose mounted on the pipe. It is made of heat shrink material, so heat is required to release it. It is important to remember that you should not use open fire sources for this, since gasoline vapors may remain in the system. It is best to use a hair dryer.

    Fuel level sensor

    The float on the right tank can be changed both together with the pump and separately from it. The work of replacing it is similar to installing the pump in the previous paragraph. But it is worth remembering that there is also a gasoline level sensor in the left tank. In some cases it may be damaged:

    • manufacturing defects;
    • terminal oxidation;
    • debris deposition.

    The same hatch will be located under it.

    For what reasons do problems arise with pumping between tanks?

    The causes of the problems are:

    • damage to the housing of gasoline storage tanks when driving off-road;
    • incorrect connection of the ejector pump (on Euro-2 machines);
    • incorrect connection of the gasoline supply and vapor exhaust lines after repair or maintenance;
    • Damage or collapse of pipelines (for example, due to incorrect installation of parts or as a result of contact with obstacles on the road).

    An additional reason for poor gasoline circulation is a loose or damaged plug in the right tank. If the seal is broken, fuel may leak out of the container while the engine is running. Clogged filters in the fuel system reduce the flow of fuel supplied from the ramp to the jet pump. The device operates with reduced performance, which is not enough to compensate for the volume of gasoline in the right tank.

    When replacing an electric pump, performance and operating pressure must be taken into account. As the unit wears out, the parameters decrease, impairing the supply of gasoline from the left tank to the right tank. On Patriot machines that comply with Euro-3 standards, it is recommended to use Bosch equipment (catalog number 0580454001). You should not purchase analogues from Siemens, since the equipment differs in mounting points and plug configuration.

    Fuel filter for UAZ Patriot SUV

    The fuel filter is a very important part; if it malfunctions, engine operation on a UAZ Patriot SUV becomes impossible.

    Since this product is a consumable item, the main reason for its malfunction is clogging of the cleaning element.

    Since the fuel filter is designed to clean gasoline or diesel, the duration of its operation depends on the quality of these types of fuel. Let's look at the main features of the fuel filter element, as well as how it is replaced on a UAZ Patriot.

    Peculiarities

    The fine fuel filter has a service life of up to 15-20 thousand km. But this is not the main indicator for its replacement. This need depends on the quality of the fuel being refueled, as well as the operating environment of the vehicle.

    The UAZ Patriot is an SUV and if it is used for its intended purpose, the product should be replaced every 10 thousand kilometers.

    But the main indicator for its replacement is a number of negative signs that the driver detects while driving:

    • The car jerks while driving and when accelerating.
    • The engine idles poorly.
    • The car refuses to start.

    Therefore, you should immediately resort to installing a new product on the UAZ Patriot SUV.

    Diesel engine filter

    UAZ Patriot is equipped with both gasoline and diesel engines. Everyone knows how they differ. But is there a difference between a diesel filter and a gasoline filter?

    Do you want to reduce the consumption of your Patriot? To do this, read...

    The fine filter, which cleans diesel in the system, is structurally no different from gasoline. But in addition to the cleaning element, the diesel engine filter is equipped with separators that are designed to separate water from the fuel. Some car models are even equipped with special water sensors and taps to drain it.

    For your information! If the UAZ Patriot is equipped with a diesel engine, then in order to prevent the formation of condensation in the tank, it is recommended to periodically refill it.

    Replacement

    Replacing the fine fuel filter involves performing the following steps:

    1. The pressure in the system decreases. To do this, do not start the engine for 20 minutes.
    2. The car is de-energized by disconnecting the minus terminal.
      Unscrew the fastening nuts
    3. To complete the following steps, you will need two keys. One holds the fitting, and the second unscrews the nuts securing the tips.
    4. Now you need to loosen the clamp that secures the filter.
    5. The fuel pipes are disconnected. The tubes at the junction are sealed with rubber rings, which wear out quickly. Therefore, you will need to pay special attention to them.
    6. Now you can remove the device from the clamp holding it.

    The principle of operation of the fuel pump

    The unit in question operates on a fairly simple principle: its task is to pump up some pressure between the right tank and the ramp, which allows fuel to be collected using a special plastic mesh. Of course, not all the fuel immediately enters the engine. To return it back to the tank and pick it up again through the mesh, a special tee is provided in the UAZ Patriot fuel line. It collects fuel that has not penetrated into the engine and, under some pressure, returns it back to the tank. There is also another important element here - a fine filter. Its task is clear - to purify the fuel from small impurities of various debris.

    Replacing the UAZ Patriot fuel filter

    Continuing the work to put the UAZ Partiot I bought in order, I decided to replace the fuel filter.

    I was surprised to discover that there are not so many materials on the topic of how to replace the fuel filter in a UAZ Partiot, and those that exist are not suitable or are only partially suitable.

    In fact, there is nothing complicated, but this is for those who know and have already changed the fuel filter. For those who have never changed the fuel filter, I will tell you how to do it.

    As is already clear from the name itself, the fuel filter serves to clean the fuel from foreign particles that can get there from the gas tank.

    This is not absolute protection, but only the first, so to speak, springboard designed to protect the fuel system of your car. Anything can happen in life - dirt in the fuel at a gas station, rust in the gas tank, etc.

    It is in such cases that the fuel filter comes into play.

    I purchased a fuel filter UAZ 40904, GAZ dv. EURO-3 (iron case)** UNDER latches (NF2112 B)** / NF-2112 B (NF-012-T EURO Linner 112).

    Why are the words “UNDER THE LATCHES” in bold? Because this is extremely important! There are UAZ Patriot models where the fuel filter mounts are fittings rather than latches. Accordingly, a fuel filter for such mounts must be purchased for fittings.

    Also, I highly recommend paying attention and taking filters exclusively with a metal body! Plastic ones are a little cheaper, but they can crack in the cold or if you overtighten the clamp.

    How do you know what type of fuel filter you need: snap-on or plug-in? To do this you need to find it and look at it. The fuel filter is located on the bottom, directly opposite the right front door.

    The distance from the ground to the bottom of the UAZ Patriot is so great that in order to look at the fuel filter or change it, you do not need to jack up the car. Just place a clean piece of cardboard and crawl under the bottom on your back in the area of the right front door.

    Looking around, you will see something like this:

    The red arrows point to the latches, which have these white rectangles - I cleaned them of dirt :). The blue arrow points you to a 10mm bolt, which is unscrewed using a socket head (or wrench).

    To make the bolt work better, I advise you to spray it well with WD-40. Be sure to wear glasses, because otherwise, during the process of unscrewing and replacing, dirt or gasoline will definitely get into your eyes.

    Do not lie under the filter itself, otherwise, when gasoline flows, it will flow directly on you!

    First, without unscrewing the bolt, which is shown by the blue arrow, press your fingers on the white rectangles of the latches on both sides and, gently rocking them slightly, remove them almost completely.

    You may not be able to fully determine whether or not, then remove it completely and immediately insert it again slightly (just so that it holds and the gasoline does not flow out in a stream), otherwise you will be flooded with gasoline. Next, unscrew the bolt and bend the clamp so that you can pull out the old filter. Next, you need to act quickly.

    Take the new fuel filter in your hand, making sure that the arrow on the filter in your hands shows the same direction as the arrow on the old filter, which is still connected. Then remove the right latch and quickly put it on the new filter. Next, remove the left latch and quickly put the new filter on again.

    Now remove the old filter from the clamp - immediately away from you - gasoline will also start pouring out of it, and insert the new one into the clamp and tighten the screw indicated by the blue arrow. There is no need to tighten it too much, just make sure that the filter is not loose in your clamp - it is sitting tightly.

    Now, if you have not done this yet, check that the latches on both sides are fully seated - until they click. That's all.

    Checking the fuel pump relay

    The fuel pump activation relay is located in the relay box located in the right rear of the engine compartment. It is used to control the operation of the electric fuel pump.
    In particular, the relay breaks the pump power circuit if the engine stops with the ignition on. To turn on the fuel pump when the engine is stopped, you need to remove the relay and close contacts 30 and 87 on the connector with a short wire with a diameter of 1.5 mm. The fuel pump relay is brown on the 520i/525i/524td and orange on the 530i/535i.

    Attention: when checking the fuel pump activation relay, the battery must be charged.

    • Check fuse No. 23.

    • Connect a voltmeter to pins 30 (*) and 85 (-) on the relay connector. The voltage should be around 12V.

    • If this is not the case. connect a voltmeter to pin 30 and ground. If the voltage is about 12 V, check the electrical diagram to see if the brown-green wire is broken. If it is intact, check the red wire and replace if necessary.

    • Turn on the ignition. Connect a voltmeter to pin 86 (+) and ground. The reading should be around 12V Otherwise, check the electrical diagram to see if the red/white wire is broken and replace it if necessary.

    • Check the presence of a signal at the output of the crankshaft speed/angular position sensor (to do this, contact a service station).

    • Connect a short jumper to pins 30 and 87. If the pump starts, replace the relay. Otherwise, check for an open and replace the green-violet wire if necessary.

    • If the wire is OK, replace the fuel pump.

    I finished the diagram for printing and therefore made a new post, where there is also an interactive version: www.drive2.ru/l/525991795272712211/ …I’ll leave this one for those who have bookmarked it. I’ll sit down on the step in the photo :) and have a smoke... Differences from the options in Tyrnet, in the Third Romes and others like them: 1. Suitable for normal printing. 2. Fixed bugs with loss of veins and changes in color (of which there are like dirt). In short, if you like it, we praise it and recommend it to everyone :), if you don’t like it, we throw tomatoes and get smart;)

    Replacing the fuel filter UAZ Patriot Euro 4

    The fuel filter always carries an important function, and if it is not working properly, then the operation of the power unit becomes simply impossible on any car, including the popular domestic UAZ Patriot.

    Since this filter is designed to pass fuel, both gasoline and diesel, through it in order to clean it, therefore, its service life depends on the quality of the fuel consumed.

    We invite you to consider what a fine fuel filter is and how to replace the fuel filter on a UAZ Patriot with your own hands.

    Fuel filter on Patriot

    The fine fuel filter we are considering today, according to the manufacturer, has a working life of 15-20 thousand kilometers. If your car has covered such a mileage, this will still not be an indicator for replacing the filter element.

    The need for replacement largely depends on the quality of the fuel consumed and the environment in which the car is operated. Every owner of a UAZ Patriot knows that this is a full-fledged SUV, and on such cars it is customary to change the filter every 10 thousand kilometers.

    Again, we draw your attention to the fact that the fuel filter should still be replaced if the driver detects such signs while driving, such as:

    • The car won't start at all.
    • When increasing speed and while driving, the car jerks.
    • The power unit malfunctions at idle.

    In such cases, it is necessary to replace the old filter as quickly as possible; the main thing is to know how to remove it and install a new one.

    Most likely, everyone knows that the popular UAZ Patriot is equipped with power plants: diesel and gasoline, and everyone can name the differences between them, but not everyone knows what differences exist between gasoline and diesel filters.

    The so-called fine fuel filter, which directly cleans diesel engines, has no differences in design from the gasoline version.

    However, in addition to the cleaning element itself, such a filter is equipped with special separators designed to separate water from the fuel.

    Some machines have a water sensor and a small special faucet that allows you to drain the water.

    Important! If your UAZ Patriot is equipped with a diesel power plant, then to prevent condensation from accumulating in the tank, it should be periodically refilled.

    Rear view camera for UAZ Patriot

    UAZ Patriot immobilizer does not recognize the key

    We do it yourself by replacing the fuel filter on Patriot

    It is necessary to perform some simple steps so that you can then replace the fuel filter on the UAZ Patriot we are considering:

    • We leave the car engine turned off for about 20 minutes in order to reduce the pressure in the system.
    • We turn off the minus terminal, de-energizing the UAZ with this action.
    • The next manipulation will require you to have two keys. We hold the fitting with one of them, and with the second we unscrew the nuts that secure the tips.
    • The filter is secured using a special clamp; it needs to be loosened.
    • Carefully disconnect the fuel pipes. Do not forget that these same tubes at the joints are equipped with rubber sealing rings that wear out quickly, therefore, they require special attention.
    • At this point you can easily remove the filter and remove it from the clamp. Now you know how to remove the filter element step by step.
    • Installation of a new element is carried out in the same way as described above. Just before doing this, be sure to make sure that the fluid flow is in the right direction. For this purpose, it is recommended to look at the special arrow.

    Volume of fuel tanks on UAZ Bukhanka injector

    The UAZ fuel system is presented in the form of several units, including a fuel pump. If necessary, the left tank is replenished automatically from the right tank. It should be noted that the injector assumes that fuel is consumed first from the right tank. Video on how to change a rheostat (330 Ohm) in a new fuel sensor with a fuel intake to a rheostat (90 Ohm), from.

    It should be noted that due to the tightness, the possibility of fuel leakage and evaporation is eliminated. There is a block with valves between the filling pipe of the right tank and the atmosphere. This injector unit is installed under the hood on the radiator. How can you measure the fuel level in a car tank, a fuel gauge, a ruler for measuring the fuel level in a gasoline tank.

    Replacing the fuel filter UAZ Patriot

    The dynamic characteristics of a car and the power parameters of the power plant depend not only on the technical condition of the mechanisms, but also on such “inconspicuous” consumables as filters.

    Therefore, replacing the UAZ Patriot fuel filter should be carried out not only as part of scheduled maintenance, but in cases where problems are detected with the operating conditions of the engine.

    The fuel filter carries out fine cleaning, so depending on the quality of the fuel, it can become clogged quite quickly, which significantly reduces its throughput, and the power unit itself feels its deficiency with a drop in traction.

    Reasons for emergency replacement of the UAZ Patriot fuel filter

    urgently change the fuel filter on a UAZ Patriot in a number of cases:

    • The engine refuses to start with obvious signs of lack of fuel supply, i.e. There is no output even at idle speed.
    • When accelerating, the vehicle begins to twitch or there is a complete loss of traction and engine speed.
    • The idle speed “floats”, failures in fuel combustion occur, and when you try to reach higher speeds, you feel a failure and “triple”. While driving, this is felt not only as a twitch, but as if, instead of accelerating, an additional load was attached to the car.

    It is worth considering that the service life of the fuel filter is nominally 15 - 20 thousand kilometers, but in reality it can only be about 10,000 km, so it is often changed at the same time as replacing the UAZ Patriot air filter. The timing is also similar for replacing the filter in the interior of the UAZ Patriot.

    Stages of replacing the UAZ Patriot fuel filter

    Important!!! Before you buy a UAZ Patriot fuel filter, you need to choose it correctly, because... for gasoline and diesel engines they are different, and there are also differences in throughput and degree of filtration. It is recommended to select a model by catalog number or article.

    To replace a consumable element, you must know where the UAZ Patriot fuel filter is located , because its location differs from the car model range. So, in gasoline models, the filter element can be found under the bottom of the body, but in diesel engines it is usually located in the engine compartment.

    The replacement process itself is no different from replacing other consumables. It is necessary to dismantle the old one and install a new one. But to carry out the event without trouble, the car must sit without a working engine for about 20 minutes, because...

    Only during this period of time the pressure in the systems decreases to a minimum. Particular attention is paid to the tightness of the fuel line assembly, because seals, tubes and clamps also age and their reliability decreases.

    To make it easier to unscrew threaded connections, it is recommended to treat them with any deep-penetrating lubricant.

    Important!!! When installing a new UAZ Patriot fuel filter, you must pay attention to the direction of fuel flow. There is an arrow on the filter element. Installation in the opposite direction, although not critical, is not advisable, because interferes with the correct passage of fuel through the filter with the collection of contaminant particles.

    How to drain gasoline from the tank of a modern car

    Many modern cars have a special drain hole at the bottom of the gas tank that allows you to completely drain all the fuel from the tank. You just need to find this hole, place a suitable container under it and, unscrewing the cap, pour gasoline into it.

    The essence of the problem is that if draining fuel from the tanks of old domestic cars and foreign cars does not cause difficulties, then, for example, in modern VAZ models with an injector, a special filter mesh located in the filler neck of the gas tank prevents draining gasoline. This mesh serves not only as a filter, but also as a good protection against thieves, preventing a hose from being inserted into the tank through the neck and draining gasoline.

    UAZ (loaf) pumps fuel from the main tank to the additional tank

    There is information on this issue, but on the forums all topics on this issue are not closed; we thought about and tried everything we found. The meager answers that are there did not solve the problem, or are not suitable for our case. Plus also a large number of stupid (IMHO) answers like “change the tank caps”, “create increased pressure in the add. bak" and others.

    We always drove on the right tank (with the left one full), the fuel gauge was at the limit, as soon as the gauge started jumping, we topped it up. And then something happened, as he told me - he saw that the tube from the separator was hanging, the nipple had broken off, the repairman took it off, welded it, washed it, and installed it incorrectly, gasoline slowly went through the neck of the additional tank. We tried rearranging, of course, but it didn’t help, or “almost didn’t help.” And since then, gasoline has been pumped from left to right, and now, accordingly, it runs on the left.

    Typical faults

    As mentioned above, the fuel pump has a very certain operating capacity, which is enough for approximately 80,000 kilometers. Then various troubles may happen to him that need to be corrected. Most often, the following problems can occur in this node:

    • The fuel level indicator in the car shows false information;
    • The car cannot be started - fuel is not supplied to the cylinders;
    • Also, short circuits often occur here when the positive wire, for one reason or another, shorts to ground;
    • Fuse failure in the control circuit. This case can be corrected quite simply - by replacing the device with a new one. Getting to the fuse is not difficult, since it is located in a special mounting block;
    • Damage to the fuel pump relay. It is determined mainly by the fact that the pump pumps, but the system as a whole does not work as it should.
