Setting the float mechanism

Before tuning, you should let the car idle. Once you have done this, proceed to the next steps:

  1. Remove the cover from the carburetor.
  2. Check the fuel fluid level (the value should be 28 mm).

If a different indicator is detected, the float mechanism must be adjusted. For this:

  1. We place the lid vertically so that the fitting through which the fuel is supplied faces upward. The float tongue should be perpendicular to the axis of the needle valve. If you have different indicators, bend it with pliers.
  2. The distance from the float to the cardboard spacer is 6-7 mm. Otherwise, we bend the bracket on which the float is held to the required values.
  3. After adjusting the mechanism is completed, return the cover back.

Adjusting the starter

To configure the device, do the following:

Close the choke (for convenience, secure with a paper clip)

Pay attention to how the telescopic rod is installed. Pull the thrust lever with your finger until it stops.

We measure the gap of the slightly open upper flap. Standard – 5 mm along the bottom slot. For convenience, you can measure with a drill of a suitable size. If the value does not correspond to the specified one, then set the required gap by rotating a special adjusting screw located on the generator starting device.

Idle speed adjustment

It is important not to make mistakes here, so you cannot repair the mechanism without knowing its structure or at least first reading the instructions. What do you need for this?

  1. Unscrew the quality screw (three or three and a half turns). Turn the quantity screw back six to seven turns.
  2. We start the engine. Reduce crankshaft speed if it is too high.
  3. After the engine has warmed up, set the tachometer to 900 rpm, turning the quantitative screw.
  4. Ten minutes later we turn off the car. Checking the spark plug electrodes. If there is no soot, the setting is successful.
  5. If soot appears, clean the electrodes and tighten the quality screw 0.5 - 1 turn. Next, we repeat the previous steps until the soot on the candles disappears.

To change the carbon content, you need to crank the wine quality. First screw it all the way, and then unscrew it four to five turns.

VAZ-2105: a real breakthrough!

We can consider such a case using the example of the VAZ-2105 power unit, because it made a very significant breakthrough among its colleagues in the workshop. The fact is that before it, all models used a belt drive for the gas distribution mechanism. Its predecessors used a chain, which resulted in an unpleasant noise. But since the 80s this has changed. The domestic auto industry borrowed the idea of ​​using a gas distribution engine from the Ford Pinto. No one wanted to use such a system, since during intensive work a belt break was more likely than a chain break.

But the structural features of this mechanism made it possible to avoid an unpleasant incident, which would not only be very dangerous on the road, but would also cost a very expensive repair. Opposite each of the valves there are special holes that are located on the working pistons.

Tuning the body and Solex carburetor

It is no secret for all VAZ 21053 car owners that their cars, manufactured back in Soviet times, are not distinguished by comfort, quality and proper appearance. For many old domestic cars of the VAZ 21053 brand, which have survived trips on Russian “high-quality” roads and have lost their attractive appearance and gloss over time, body tuning done by yourself is especially relevant.

The modernized engines urgently need tuning of the Solex carburetor, since they are compared to the standard analogues of the sample at 4000 rpm. and higher can get a higher filling coefficient, which in turn will reach about 1.35-1.5, which may well cause increased air consumption, and the maximum speed will exceed 6000. The Solex carburetor has in its arsenal a diffuser diameter of 24/ 27, its advantage is that it has an increased mixing chamber in addition to the diameter of the diffuser, which enabled the manufacturer to install a throttle valve with a diameter of 34 mm.

Many owners prefer to update the old body design on their own, remove everything unnecessary and install only the best. To do this, you can remove broken and worn bumpers, hoods, trunk lids and all doors. Only the frame will remain. Wipers are removed from trunk lids, as they spoil the appearance of the car. Rivets are installed in the holes that appear where the wipers were located.

Then the doors are tuned. It is necessary to remove the inner lining and cover the doors with soundproofing material, after first removing the handles from them. Cover all treated areas with putty. It is better to purchase a new, more improved hood, since if you repair it yourself, it will take a lot of time, effort, and is very troublesome.

After the proper procedures have been carried out, all removed elements are returned to their original places, topcoat and base paints are applied to the body, and after drying, a transparent varnish is applied on top of them. Now the most important work begins: a beautiful aerodynamic body kit is installed efficiently and smoothly, radiator grilles, mirrors and headlights are replaced, and new wheels are installed on the wheels.

What cars were equipped with ICE 2105?

This modernization could not satisfy users of the domestic automobile industry. Adjustment is carried out only on a serviceable and serviced carburetor. It is highly desirable to have a device that can measure harmful CO emissions. Let's look at the procedure:

  • We check the level in the float chamber. This is done using a template, which you can make yourself or purchase at a specialized store.
  • We check the gaps of the contact group of the ignition distributor (look in the technical book of your car) and visually inspect the spark plugs. The latter must strictly correspond to the engine model according to the heat rating.
  • We start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature.
  • We use a screwdriver to adjust the screw for the amount of combustible mixture. With its help, you should set the speed within 820-900 rpm. We control their number using a tachometer (built-in or separate).

We tighten the fuel mixture quality screw. At the same time, it is important to monitor the amount of CO in the exhaust gases (a working engine at a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius produces 0.5-1.2% CO). Use the mixture quantity screw again and set the idle speed.

Causes of malfunctions and their elimination

In principle, the 2105 engine has all the typical malfunctions of carburetor in-line internal combustion engines:

  • clogging of the fuel system, fuel pump, carburetor, throttle, jets and filter;
  • exhaustion of the life of the air filter and microswitch;
  • failure of the ignition system and stuck valves and piston rings;
  • breakdown of gaskets and seals, misadjustment of cam gaps;
  • production of cylinders/pistons, bearing shells;
  • loosening the flywheel bolts and attachment drive belts.

Cons of the 2105 engine... the 2105 engine still requires valve adjustment. In addition, the 2105 engine stalls, this may be caused by the thickened oil in the box not being warmed up. Just warm up the car in the cold season and only then start driving.

A knock in the VAZ 2105 engine indicates that the valves are not adjusted, go to a mechanic or adjust them yourself differently with an increase in the thermal gap, in addition to additional noise, you will experience a decrease in the already not high power, valve burnout, camshaft imbalance, increased consumption fuel, etc. In general, the VAZ 2105 engine malfunctions are completely identical to the 2101.

Why are modifications difficult?

Increasing the power of a belt-driven motor is much more difficult. For example, when using a humped camshaft, you have to install a split gear. For a 5 engine, it simply does not exist with a belt, that is, you will not be able to set marks. In this case, it is better to change the entire engine or install a conversion kit on the injector.

It is reasonable to carry out deep tuning of the VAZ 21053 engine only for certain creative reasons. Simple modifications to the machine with your own hands can be done without significant financial costs.

For example, if a car engine gets very hot, you can upgrade the power system. At the same time, you will be able to achieve reduced fuel consumption.

This seemingly very small amount of information is already enough for you to start cleaning and adjusting the VAZ 2105 yourself.

It is after cleaning the carburetor that adjustment occurs. But you need to remember that you shouldn’t look for breakdowns where there are none. In order to correctly and well adjust the VAZ 21054 carburetor, you need to very carefully consider and remember all the contents of the mechanism. It is important to clean all parts from dust and foreign bodies. It is also necessary to wash the float chamber and clean the strainer. Having completed all of the above, proceed to cleaning the air jets and adjusting the system for the floats, trigger and idle speed.

The strainer is an important part of the carburetor and needs to be checked from time to time. As a rule, the check is carried out every 60,000 revolutions. To check the strainer, you need to use manual fuel supply and fill the float chamber with fuel. After closing the valve, you need to slide the top part of the filter and remove it.

Maintaining the required fuel level in the carburetor is ensured by a special float mechanism.

Float mechanism

To set it up, you need to start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes. Then you need to remove the carburetor cover and check the fuel level in the float chamber - it should be 28 mm.

If it is different, you need to do the following:

  1. Measure and adjust the distance between the cover gasket and the float when the float and the needle valve ball are in contact. It should be equal to 6.5 mm (0.25 mm deviation is allowed).
  2. We make adjustments by bending the tongue.
  3. We check the maximum stroke of the valve needle, which should be 8 mm. To check, measure the distance between the cover gasket and the float at its maximum extension. It should be equal to 14 mm with a deviation of 0.5 mm. To eliminate the deviation, you need to act on the bracket.
  4. Visually check the perpendicularity of the tongue relative to the axis of the needle valve, as well as the parallelism of the float relative to the bottom cover. If you notice any irregularities, straighten everything out.

If after all the above steps you are unable to achieve a stable fuel level of 28 mm, the needle valve in the float chamber should be changed.

Starting device

To adjust the starting device of the VAZ 2105 carburetor, you need to do the following:

  1. Use the thrust handle, which is located in the cabin, to close the air damper.
  2. Make sure that the rod shank is at the end of the carburetor trigger rod groove. If there is a violation, correct the situation by bending the rod.
  3. Remove the cover and measure the gap between the edge of the damper and the chamber wall with the rod recessed. It should vary from 5 to 5.5 mm. We adjust it by rotating the adjusting screw of the starting device.

Idling

To adjust the idle speed, you need to start and warm up the engine, and then perform the following operations:

  • Turn the engine to 850 rpm by turning the mixture quantity screw.
  • Use the mixture quality screw to bring the speed to the maximum level.
  • Reduce the speed to 850 using the quantity screw.
  • Maximize the quality screw.
  • Having achieved 850 rpm, tighten the quality screw until the engine shakes.
  • By unscrewing the quality screw, ensure stable operation of the motor.

With proper adjustment of the carburetor of the five, fuel consumption in summer should not exceed the following indicators:

  • 7-7.5 liters per hundred outside the city at a speed of 90 km/h;
  • 8.5-9 liters in city mode.
