KAMAZ Oka Factory nizhdanchik › Logbook › Installation of 13 inch wheels on Oka. (from the Internet)
Copyright from a site found on the Internet
The idea of putting 13-inch wheels on the Oka has been brewing for a long time. Even when I didn’t have an Oka, I read that some tuning studios set the Oka to 13 inches. I passed this information through myself and forgot. But when I started riding the Oka, I remembered this, but considered it a bad thing. When I looked at Georgy Nalimov’s website, I became interested. But in the pictures the adapters looked somehow unreliable. But after the April meeting of the Okavods of St. Petersburg, after I held this device in my hands, all doubts about its reliability disappeared.

And voila!
decision is made. I wanted wheels like these. Why? Yes, because every driver knows that wheels are 75% of success. It was clear that 13 inches would be heavier than the original ones, plus the weight of the adapters themselves, plus the increased diameter and width. And this means that the load on the axle shafts, gearbox and engine increases, since heavy wheels are more difficult to spin, the increased diameter acts as a speed-increasing gearbox (is it easy to start in 2nd?). The load on the brakes increases because the heavy wheel is more difficult to stop. The load on bearings, rubber bands, and silent blocks increases. But the most important thing is how will a light car with heavy shoes behave? However, wide and large wheels should have held the car better, be more resistant to potholes, and on a straight and smooth highway the car should have simply, calmly and evenly rolled. Moreover, the opportunity to choose opened up, since the range of 13-inch wheels is simply huge, not to mention the wheels themselves: classic, front-wheel drive, Russian, Uzbek, German... Moreover, if my Oka were the only vehicle (and I overcame I have a car addiction), and I would still be counting money for gasoline and would be indifferent to cars and motorcycles, then, naturally, I would drive my own 12 inches and this site would not exist. For help, I turned to our turner, Uncle Yasha. Everything was done according to George's drawings. mp78.narod.ru/michael/auto/oka/icon/wels13d0l.jpg Sawing blanks. mp78.narod.ru/michael/auto/oka/icon/wels13d1l.jpg Prepared blanks. mp78.narod.ru/michael/auto/oka/icon/ajasha3l.jpg Yakov Dmitrievich at work. mp78.narod.ru/michael/auto/oka/icon/wels13d2l.jpg From the inside. mp78.narod.ru/michael/auto/oka/icon/wels13d3l.jpg Outside. mp78.narod.ru/michael/auto/oka/icon/wels13d4l.jpg Axonometry. mp78.narod.ru/michael/auto/oka/icon/wels13d5l.jpg Installation kit.
Wheels
(disks) Uzbek ones were chosen (silver on the outside, black on the inside), since they are more durable than domestic ones. The width of the rims is 5 inches. In order not to widen the Oka track too much, I took wheels with a deep offset (the wheels sit deeper). The thickness of the spacer (25 mm) compensated for the offset and the track remained approximately the same. The tires I took were 185/60 R13 TOYO. All the tire sellers openly considered me a fool and tried to spin the story that such a low profile simply does not exist in nature and that I was talking outright nonsense. As you can see, this is not true. The fact is that domestic wheels with such a profile really (seemingly) do not exist. We need imported tires. That's what I wanted. By the way, imported good tires for Oka in sizes R13 and R12 are about the same price. I looked in the catalog myself. The “price per size” rule applies here. I decided to replace the drums, discs, bearings, balls, silent blocks, rubber bands, steering rods and joints with new ones.
Difficulties
. The rear drums were no problem. The entire job of replacing the rear drums and tripe took about two hours of work under the window. I had to tinker with the front ones. At the same time, the brake calipers had to be changed, as the pistons were old. It would have been better not to take the hub assembly. True, I came to this decision through trial and error. It would have been better to buy everything separately and assemble it in 15 minutes at the nearest car service using a press. Before, I did it on an overpass rented from the nearest CAS. All fasteners were purchased new.
Problems
. I was afraid for the front arches. It turned out to be in vain. The wheels are placed inside the front arches. But the rear arches turned out to be too small. I had to remove the locker and raise the car. First, I raised the car with rubber spacers for “classic” springs. But this is not a solution. Then I installed rear springs from Tavria. But when a couple of men sat in the back, the wheels sank to the arches in the potholes. I had to install a set of rubber spacers about 2 cm high and shock absorber extensions.
Later, I plan to lower the car and replace the subframe, since I have a simplified SeAZ one - without a cross member, and with such loads this is unacceptable. You'll have to saw the wheel arches. But I want the changes not to be obvious. There is a desire to work on an additional stabilizer. Wait and see.
Winter tires for "Oka" 12 diameters
Model "Yokohama Ice Guard IG50"
Car "Oka" wheel size provides 12 diameter. And despite the opinion that it is difficult to find standard wheels on the market, in fact there is a choice. If desired, you can increase or decrease the width of the rubber.
Experts suggest choosing the following tires for Oka:
- "Hancock Optima K715". Many car owners prioritize this high-quality tire. You can choose size 145/70 R12, which is 100% suitable for a mini car. The cost of such wheels starts from 2000 rubles*. The products are an economy option, but the quality is excellent. Moderately tough, they hold back impacts on Russian highways. Drivers call such tires “indestructible”, wear-resistant, with an average mileage of 70-80,000 km. This model is an excellent option for the VAZ-1111.
- "Kama 503". There is a standard size - 135/80 R12. The price of the tire is approximately 1500 rubles. With spikes, noisy, but the grip is excellent. This is an economical option. Ideal for speeds up to 100 km/h, great for Oka. Tires are inexpensive and quite wear-resistant, so they are in demand among consumers.
- "Yokohama Ice Guard IG50". This is already the most expensive, high-quality winter friction tires. The IG50 is a unique development that has successfully proven itself on snowy and icy roads. Sold in size 145/70 R12, price approximately 3,500 rubles per tire. Many people think that it is very expensive. But if comfort and safety in winter are important to the driver, Yokohama is a smart choice.
- "Kuhmo Ice Power KW21". Modern winter tires, but without studs - Velcro. If city roads are cleaned daily in winter and are in good condition, then Velcro is an ideal option. KW21 has been on the car market for quite a long time, the tires have received a lot of positive feedback - the wheels are soft, comfortable, and ride well on icy roads, asphalt roads and off-road. Available in standard size 145/80 R12. The size is a little larger than the standard one, but it’s not scary, such wheels fit on the Oka without any problems. The price for a tire is approximately 2500 rubles.
Attention!
Of the summer season tires, the Kama brand tires will be simpler and cheaper, but their quality is inferior. Winter tires on the Oka budget option should also be preferred from. Imported tires are more expensive, but their quality is higher.
The listed models in size R12 are of high quality. The choice is not so great, but there are reliable tires that you can confidently install, drive and not worry about. Many people prefer 13-hole tires for their car, but here you should upgrade the car - change the hub (factory with 3 holes, 13 - with four), buy 13-hole wheels. The modification is not easy, but if you have experience, then everything will definitely work out. The market offers more R13 tires than R12.

And so let's start, to switch to 13 wheels, we purchased 2 hubs from 11116 Oka, 2 brake discs and 2 bearings 2108 from the rear axle, well, Niva wheel studs in a quantity of 4 pieces. The rear drums were re-drilled for 4 studs, so I won’t bore you with information on the drive shaft. Replacing the hubs did not cause any difficulties, put the bearing in the freezer and the hub with a burner, 20 seconds. and everything is ready.
At the same time, I changed the front pads and changed the grease in the rear bearings.
In general, about the positive aspects: it drives, it goes over bumps better than 12, the consumption of course may have increased, but not much, it began to look more cheerful and of course the ground clearance has become higher. And it feels like it holds the road better. Now, not much about the minuses: since I came across wheels with Vozov tires 175 70, I had to throw the locker aside,
buy new Phobos rear springs with shock absorber housings and reinforced rubber bands, now they don’t catch on the rear arch. And one more minus, of course, the dynamics dropped, not critically, but at first it was very noticeable. And I’m already used to driving like this, I like it, I’ll put Matiz tires on for the winter and return the locker, otherwise it’s somehow alarming. All the best and smooth roads.

Everyone knows perfectly well that there is no handling on the original wheels, there is no choice of R12 either, especially with 3 bolts. I finally decided to make a normal drive, and at the same time I’ll hitch the clutch:
4 bolt hub kit (2 hubs+2 discs+2 drums+4 studs
6000r) Vologda front hub bearings (
800)+ rear external and internal (
300)+Fenox steering rack (2200)
Valeo clutch is not a fake, 3000 on Yarik on the 1st floor Releaser Fenox 150 (rustled immediately after installation)
I was looking for wheels for about a month, because... with a departure less than 18 there are big problems (the Turks used to do them). I wanted 0 offset DJ305 black, but they are no longer available anywhere, in the end I found Tech-Line 307 BD, our Russian ones with offset 12, it seems okay... for 1890 rubles
Chrome bolts 50px x 12pcs, locks 1350r.
Spacers for rear wheels 30 RUR 4 pcs.

Recommended tire pressures
To avoid uneven tire wear, the appearance of defects during driving and to improve the handling of the Oka, you must follow the recommended tire pressure parameters.
Oka manufacturers offer the following atm figures for tire inflation:
If, while driving, severe wear is detected on the outer part of the tread, this indicates insufficient pressure in the wheels. If the central part is worn out, then the tire pressure is too high.
Alloy wheels on Oka
Despite the fact that the Oka car has been out of production in Russia for a long time, it is still popular, popular, and actively used. It is valued for its small size, low fuel consumption, versatility of spare parts, and unpretentiousness. Those disadvantages that car owners note for themselves can be easily eliminated or replaced. Among them is the replacement of factory stamping with casting.
The Oka car (aka VAZ 1111-13 or Lada 1111) was factory equipped for the period of production, starting in 1988, with stamped wheels R12 - 4x12/3x98 ET40, that is, with a diameter of 12 inches. , with a rim width of 4 inches and fastening with three bolts with a distance between them of 98 mm. The debate among car enthusiasts about which wheels are better - cast or stamped - is an eternal topic. Admirers of both types are present on both sides in large numbers.
Car owners who prefer stamped wheels leave the factory set on the wheels. And for fans and adherents of cast ones, it is also quite possible to find analogues to replace the factory ones. Such alterations are quite common among car owners; some are captivated by the quality, while others want to change the appearance by casting them with a beautiful design.
Experienced car enthusiasts advise when choosing to pay attention to the fact that alloy wheels with a radius of 12 inches are lighter in weight than with a radius of 13.
If we talk about the domestic manufacturer, then on the official website of "KiK" wheels for "Oka" are currently presented only in diameter R13, model "Siesta" (KS477), in the colors "diamond black" and "dark platinum". The price is 3681 rub.* and 3347 rub. respectively. Currently, alloy wheels of 12 radius for the VAZ 1111-13 are not in stock.
When using a spacer, it is possible to select castings with a large diameter from both Russian and foreign manufacturers.
Adjustment angles
Toe adjustment
Often, car service technicians immediately begin adjusting the wheel mounting angle as soon as the car has driven onto the stand. In such a situation, it is correct to refuse. The first thing the list of operations starts with is checking the technical condition of the machine, namely:
- Is there any play in the steering wheel and wheel bearings?
- Is there radial and axial runout of the disks?
- Are the car suspension components in good working order?
- What is the air pressure in the tires?
For your information!
In addition, inspection and further adjustment should be carried out only when the car is completely unloaded, that is, there should be nothing unnecessary either in the car showroom or in the luggage compartment. And if a car mechanic is not interested in whether the car is completely unloaded, this should make one doubt his professionalism.
Next, the steering rack is turned to the neutral position. The required position is calculated by hand by twisting the steering wheel from lock to lock. 50% of the total number of revolutions will be the center of the steering rack. If this operation is not performed, then the car turns left and right will be different, which will negatively affect handling. After all stages of preparation have been completed, you can adjust the mounting angles of the steered wheels. The process takes place in stages, strictly sequentially:
- Installation of castor.
- Camber installation.
- Toe installation.
Cars should be tuned by professionals, so it’s best to contact a specialist.
Owners of the Oka car will be able to pick up the wheels, although this is problematic. The modern market offers a range of economy and premium wheels, the choice is up to the motorist.

How to convert an Oka to 13 wheels with 4 studs
The main difficulty faced by those who want to install a 13 diameter on the Oka is that this car uses a 3-bolt disc mount, and, as practice shows, it is almost impossible to find an R13 with 3 studs. It is not necessary to purchase an adapter kit to install a four-stud casting. It is quite possible to install the R13 on four studs for this car yourself.
Transition process
As experienced car enthusiasts note, there is nothing complicated in this process. You need to drill four holes and insert the studs there, doing it carefully and correctly.
To work you will need:
The brake disc and hub are removed. Four holes must be drilled in the brake disc and hub, then the studs are inserted. Everything is put together in reverse order. This must be done sequentially with each wheel.
You can simply purchase a hub for four studs, and you won’t have to drill new holes in the old one. It all depends on the skill, desire or financial issues of the car owner. In this case, each car owner must decide for himself what is more priority for him - buying a hub or doing a remodel.
Size and radius of rims for Oka: R12 and R13
As mentioned above, alloy wheels R12 and R13 are suitable for the Oka car. The numbers in the names (in this case - 12 and 13) indicate the mounting diameters in inches, i.e. 12 and 13 inches, respectively.
Characteristic
The difference in the characteristics of these two types of casting is primarily in mass. This machine also pulls size 13 without any problems, but installing heavier wheels gives an advantage in speed and cross-country ability. Although the dynamics of acceleration from a larger size worsens significantly.
Alloy wheels 12 radius for Oka
Parameters and dimensions
Wheel sizes must be taken into account based on tire sizes. The Oka is equipped with tires from 135/80 R12 to 155/65 R13. Accordingly, the rim width in this case can vary from 3.5 to 4 inches. Size 13 is considered by some to be too big for the Oka, but, as practice shows, they fit into the wheel arches quite well.
"Oka" with alloy wheels
Alloy wheels will help the car develop good speed and allow the wheels to last a long time. An additional and pleasant bonus will be a more beautiful appearance. When purchasing new wheels, it is important to select the most suitable design for the car, which specialized stores can help with.
